September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
This episode of Well Said is helping to spread the word about a disease that is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated one woman in 78 will develop ovarian cancer during her lifetime with over 22,000 new cases diagnosed this year alone and more than 14,000 women who will die from the disease. These are just a few staggering and climbing statistics that must be addressed with greater awareness, research, and methods for early detection as we’ll discuss with our guest experts:
Jill Whyte, MD, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Zucker School of Medicine and associate chief of gynecologic oncology for Northwell Health Physician Partners, Central Region, and Mychal (Mychi) Grodstein, a physician assistant in obstetrics/gynecology in the Northwell Health Central Region Division of Gynecologic Oncology. Mychi has a family history of ovarian cancer and is a BRCA mutation carrier.
