After getting arrested for drunk driving, Homer tries to remain sober, at Marge's request. Meanwhile, Lisa attempts to prove that Bart is less intelligent than a hamster after he ruins her first science fair project.
Bart, fed up with Homer's neglect, joins the Big Brother program posing as an abandoned child. Homer exacts his revenge by donating his time as a big brother to a real orphan named Pepi.
Selma decides to have a baby, and searches for the perfect father. She then experiences what life with children is like by taking Bart and Lisa to Duff Gardens, which does not go as planned.
After receiving a considerable donation of money, Springfield builds a monorail system with Homer as the conductor, they soon realise the town has been scammed by crook Lyle Lanley.
Years of poor eating habits catch up with Homer when he suffers a massive heart attack. The family can't afford the triple bypass operation he needs from Dr. Hibbert, so they go to a discount quack named Nick Riviera.
