Trending today: social media reports of post-snow “parking wars,” where people take icy revenge on others who steal their spaces. Henry Taylor (filling in for Victor) is sympathetic, but Aaron’s not convinced these people weren’t petty jerks to begin with. (Not that we all haven’t been petty jerks from time to time though, right?)

Trending today: the so-called “Abilene paradox,” where a group of people wind up doing something nobody wants to do, because everyone mistakenly thinks the others want to do it. (Michael Koh fills in for Aaron.) Also, we look back with nostalgia on the great chain restaurants of the ’90s.

Trending today: Victor insists he doesn’t care about the online fragrance subculture, but Aaron changes his mind in less than half a minute. (Why is this trending? Online fragrance lovers have been commenting/complaining that fragrances have been getting sweeter these days, and it’s not entirely clear why.)

Trending today: long-term car loans (six and seven years long) are becoming more and more common as vehicles get more expensive. Victor and Aaron lament that trend – not just because it’s potentially exploitative, but primarily because they both just hate having any vehicle loans hanging over their heads regardless.

Trending today: “Planet X,” the mythological planet that’s supposedly on the other side of the sun from Earth, is in fact just a myth – but mathematical discrepancies are leading astronomers to suspect there may be an as-yet-undiscovered planet (or something big) out in the distant solar system. (Also, Victor looks back on the history of “What’s Trending.” As should we all, from time to time.)

Trending today: new research reveals that there are actually four different types of giraffes – and our conservation efforts have only been helping one. (Yet another reason we need DEI measures, Aaron points out: you’ll end up neglecting folks without them, and you won’t even be aware you’re doing it.) Also, Aaron and Victor discuss what distinguishes one species from another – but they have no idea what they’re talking about, so don’t even pay attention.
