I made a concerted effort a few years ago to grow my following. I would try to find somebody who posts similar content to me and I would follow them. I would see the kinds of people they were following and if you look at their list you can kind of tell if somebody looks like they're kind of in the same niche that you're in. If you follow those people there's a pretty good chance that they'll follow back and that's kind of what I did for about a year trying to grow my following because I was stuck at 3 500 for years and years before that.
On Automatic Instagram Tools
I did it manually because I think instagram really frowns upon people who use apps and services to get there. They can tell somehow, so I don't advise you to try to cheat.
The big shortcut is buying followers and they can definitely tell when people are just fake followers. On instagram you can end up actually losing your account if they figure out that you're doing things like that.
I was just doing it by hand. I would follow like 20 people a week or something like that so it wasn't wasn't highly efficient or fast but it was faster than if I did nothing at all.
At least with follow backs you know they are real because you picked them out and followed them in the first place. If you just do nothing but follow back those who followed you, you will just end up following bot accounts which are useless.
What Is Blogging On Instagram?
It's a disruptive approach to blogging. If you have spent a lot of time trying to develop a blog from scratch you will find that it is a lot of hard work. You basically have to cultivate a mailing list and subscribers in order to have any kind of traction on a blog.
However, with instagram it's completely different. Let's say you have 100 followers on instagram it would take a long time for you to develop 100 subscribers on a blog.
You already likely have this audience on instagram and that audience is very amiable to see what kind of content you're posting. So you have this channel where you have an automatic audience.
It's pretty unbeatable access to your audience because they really want to be there. They're not having to be cajoled into clicking a link or making a big time investment because there is a 2200 character limit on instagram. You're not going to ever be required to read 5000 words of a blog post. Instagram keeps things to a pretty magic manageable length.
Why This Works
It just cultivates a lot of engagement. The engagement part of it is what's really unique because it's like there's a dialogue that takes place between your followers and you and makes them feel more connected to your brand.
Ivan's Website
I just kind of put my foot forward and said let me just do the best I can one step at a time. At the same time that I was learning online marketing because I also started learning about what my Youtube channel is about right.
I just learned one topic at a time and I put up one video at a time. So that's basically how I got started just one step at a time.
So even if you really don't know anything , which isn't true by the way for a lot of people because everyone is good at something you might just not know it yet.
You shouldn't have to feel overwhelmed that you have to create 400 videos in one day just take it one step at a time, learn a little bit of information about something that you like and then make a video on it.
It actually did take a period of time. At first when I first started I was getting just tens of views on my videos so definitely not the millions that you see some people have.
Over time as people got to know me, people liked my style and my specific youtube personality. The audience grew and I started getting more and more views.
You cannot get less than zero views right so if you put a video up there the least you can get is zero views like there's no downside of putting up a video.
It's about putting that foot forward doing the best you can and even if you get a few views that's already good like that's already a great first step.
Fear Of Haters.
Eminem said something once "do you have any haters good that means you're you're doing well". You will get haters like there's just no way around it so that's that's totally fine if you do that means people are. Just ignore that. Just move on.
First Signs Of Success
If you want to look at the earliest earliest signs of success it was the views just getting one view. To me that was success. That means one person in the world has seen my content that I created. Then you get a comment which means, wow people are interacting and they found the video interesting enough to leave a comment. Then a subscriber you know so these are kind of the early signs of success I'd say
right.
I began promoting affiliate offers, mostly from Clickbank, all the while I was working 9 to 5 in a bank. I would add my affiliate link in the description of that video and people would just click on it and sometimes I would make a commission.
6 months later, I was able to quit my job at the bank and the rest is history.
When You Decide Video Is Not Your Thing
I started this whole journey in may of this year I came across affiliate marketing in general on tick-tock just scrolling tick-tock late at night I found somebody talking about affiliate marketing and it piqued my interest.
I started using Tik Tok for marketing but it wasn’t really working for me. I kept going for a few months but I just wasn’t getting much leads or sales from it.
It started to become clear that I am more of a writer and not really video person and I never really understood what to do on Tik Tok. Tik Tok is all about performing to get attention and I am just not suited to it .
I did a basic course on Facebook marketing and dove straight into it.
I just learned the about Facebook organic in a beginner’s way and I got pretty lucky in my first couple weeks doing it by getting my first high ticket sale ever in 13 days and then my second one 17 days later. It was immediately working much better.
The next step was learning how to make sales more in a one-on-one situation like over zoom and phone calls and not so much in Facebook messenger and so that’s where I am right now.
I have basically just utilized my profile and optimized it to be a funnel essentially where I attract people and if they express interest, I chat to them via Facebook messenger.
It’s all about getting to know the person on a one to one basis. Each person is different so I don’t suggest any one product or service to everybody. Generally we offer a 30 minute Zoom chat to help them further. I send them a Calendly link to book it in and we go from there.
Preparation
Before all of this takes place we need to do a few things to our Facebook profile to put ourselves in a position where all of this can take place. For example you need to give your Facebook profile a makeover and having some nice professional photos with a call to action of some sort.
From there it’s a daily process of posting in such a way that you are demonstrating your authentic personality. It is important that you are honest with whatever stage you may be at. People can tell if you are trying to “Fake it until you make it”. They will respond best if you are being truly authentic and honest.
You want to avoid doing too much hard selling on your profile. You can post positive and inspirational posts for example. You want to achieve two things:

Is It Bad To Use Persuasion
Sometimes we think about persuasion as being evil and manipulative and it definitely can be but it also can be very loving and caring and helpful.
I always tell people if you could just take whatever beliefs they have right now around influence and persuasion and just temporarily push those aside and suspend them.
We're programmed from youth as to what to believe.
What to expect, what's good, what's bad and then we try to carve our own path through life but we're doing it with all of this baggage.
Deprogramming Your Beliefs
All of these beliefs that sometimes can help us but many times holds us back.
So we have to kind of get a clean slate and see "why do I believe what I believe".
Is this helping me achieve my purpose and destiny?
I try to help people truly determine where they want to be in life and see what's holding them back.
Too many people are looking for the next silver bullet and we all want to gain the edge in life but we have to look at what's already holding us back or it can be like we're trying to get up a mountain with a 500 pound backpack.
Real influence is influencing ourselves first before we go out there and try to influence others.
When Your Online Persona Is Really A Lie
I work with one gentleman that came to me and he said, "Wayne I wanna create an ebook and I wanna sell this ebook".
He said I'm gonna create this book that's going to help men in relationships. For example, how to date, how to be a great husband, how to have great sex.
It was just like one book to solve every man's problems.
I Asked Him Why Do You Want To Do This?
He's always looking at the money he could make. He could sell so many books and then he could offer coaching packages and he had this great program but when we got into the, "why does that really matter", he started choking up about it and it sounded like he was going to cry over the phone.
He said Wayne "I'm not the man that I'm trying to portray in this book, I have problems, I'm insecure, I fight my own sexuality, I don't understand how to be.
So he was he was trying to put on a facade to overcome his own insecurities.
What we did was find out what's important to him really work on his own identity helping him find himself and being comfortable with himself and from that he said wait I have no care to write that book.
That book was a way to just validate myself now luckily we found that out before we spent tens of thousands of dollars in marketing and publishing.
He ended up going in a completely different direction and built a great career.

First Stop, Failure
I took a business idea out to the market looking for funding and failed miserably. Nobody wanted to back my idea. Now the idea I had was to launch what would then have been the UK's first online pay-to-play bingo site.
Now this was something that was happening in the States but hadn't come across the UK yet. I took this idea out to the market everybody said nope it's never gonna work.
Getting To Know The Audience Through A Survey
What I did was as part of my background research to the market, I built a very basic website and listed all USA bingo sites out there at the time (a bout 12 sites) I then put a very basic pop-up on there to get some demographic stats for the audience so age, sex, expenditure, frequency, recency, all that sort of stuff.
I needed to pitch my new site and I wanted to know how much they played bingo and all that sort of thing so that I sounded like an expert when I did my presentation.
What happened was I failed with this presentation. I took it out to the market nobody's interested.
Something Unexpected Reveals Itself
A number of the bingo sites that were on my website contacted me and said hey can we advertise on your website so I said yeah you know send me some money and I'll put some ads on the website.
Now fortunately my background before this was that I had sold advertising in newspapers and magazines so it sort of was what I knew.
The First Pivot
That website became the business and it was a total accident.
People started sending us money for running ads and we said all right, we'll give this a go.
Pivot 2 - The Affiliate Model
The gaming market developed an affiliate model and as it became more trustworthy and more established as a market we went down the affiliate model route.
We were very much in the right place at the right time and the market grew exponentially.
Set Back Reveals Even Bigger Opportunity
It took us five years to get an office and some staff and after six years they changed the law in the United States and basically made gaming sites illegal.
The whole market sort of decamped to the UK but we were ready.
I was just about like 18 or 19 years old back then and so what I decided to follow Gary V's advice and post lots of content on social media.
I was posting three pieces of content every single day. It took me about four to five hours just to manage one instagram account.
That's like four to five hours every day for six months straight.
I posted three content pieces a day. That's about 540 pieces of content I produced in six months.
If you don't understand people you're leaving a lot on the table and that's what we've done as a company is started to take a look at how can we start to help leaders of companies and the employees themselves understand themselves better so they can excel what they do and feel like they're part something they want to be part of.
Vinay Raman
Caarmo
I genuinely believe every company should have a podcast in some form.
It doesn't need to be weekly. It doesn't need to be an interview based thing but there is a very very underserved market of people that love to listen to audio and would most likely listen to your content.
That doesn't mean you can have an audience of a million people, it could be 100 or 200 people but what you can do through podcasting is speak to your ideal customer or client directly and spend a long time with them.
Think about an instagram post. You scroll past that in two three seconds. If it's a video you sit there for a minute and watch it.
With a podcast you're there with your customer or client for half an hour to an hour's time and they're spending time with your brand.
Think of it like a relationship between two people. The more time you spend with them the more they're likely to be open to investing in you or spending money with you or spending time with you.
That is where podcasting comes into the marketing world.
Even if you just put a link to your show in your email footer but in a marketing respect it's literally about spending time with your customer or client.
It's not about constantly selling them or anything like that.
You can even offer them a discount code at the end of each episode but you know the people that would have got to the end of each episode have have heard all of what you said and they're going to be easier to convert more so than somebody that you just kind of find on instagram or find through paid outreach.
The return on investment is the fact that you spend this money on setting up the podcast once and that podcast is there forever.
Whereas every time you go on facebook and you put in your ad spend, that money's gone forever and the prospect has seen it once and forgotten about it in 5 seconds.
With podcasting it's there and it has the potential to always be there and always be found by somebody who is searching for whatever your business does.

How To Find Your Dream Job
Our lives are like google maps sometimes because if you don't put the destination address on google maps then you cannot complain that you're not at the right destination and you cannot say google maps is not working properly.
Our careers are the exact same way. If you don't know where you're going then all the effort you're putting in is a waste of effort, time and energy.
Never Ever Reveal Your Salary
The first rule of thumb is never, ever reveal your current salary. Never tell an exact number for your salary.
Your salary expectations should always be in ranges. For example, say I'm a software developer in Chicago.
So when you go to glassdoor for example, it will tell you what's the minimum salary, medium salary and the maximum salary that you can get for the particular job.
Say for this example, a software developer, I found out 120K is the minimum, 130K is the medium and then 145K is the maximum.
What I would do is, I'll use the medium as my lowest standard, my lower scale and I would say "hey I'm expecting between 130K to 145k".
That's the salary I'm expecting.
You're analytically and strategically asking for it because you already did the research.
That is how I've increased my salary exponentially by over 150 percent over the past 15 years and my clients have increased their salary by over 400%. Always tell your salary expectations in ranges.
I want to do something special for your listeners so I have a special link which I created for the When It Worked podcast audience.
When you buy the paperback from amazon I am going to send you the ebook for free so the only thing you need to do is just send me a screenshot of the receipt and then I'm going to send you the ebook for free. You will get both the book and the ebook for less than 50% of the price
Also as an added bonus I have a special code for just podcast listeners to get 50% off from my online shop as well and that is my way of saying thanks for all your support.

there are no difficult people there are only different personalities
"Difficult" happens when we don't slow down and invest the time and the energy to get to know the personality.
Every person is two things. They're the person that you see and their personality which you experience because it's all about gaining the insights that you need to be able to work more efficiently and more effectively with the people by understanding their personality.
You can't lead a person that you don't understand
The understanding comes from understanding their personality traits.
Coach Vs Mentor
A coach is someone who walks into a human's life at one level and a mentor comes into a human life and deals with all four rooms of their life:
1) their business
2) their family
3) their social
4) their personal
The mentor's role is to be able to help them find the balance they need in order to have less stress, greater calmness and clarity.
Reversing CEO Burnout
Sometimes with people that have been in business for a long time the business starts to wear them down. As the business wears on them mentally it increases their emotions and their creativity is lessened.
They get stuck and they're not certain what to do. The role of the mentor is to help them understand what it is that you were successfully doing previously but not doing now.
Restoring The Passion
What is usually missing is passion and commitment to the business. The purpose of being a leader today is being reinvented and what previously was the right way is not something that we can continue today.
There has to be a change in attitude and a desire to recreate who you need to be in order to be the leader in the business today.
Change Avoidance
There is a lack of positive response to change out there today.
The number one fear that people have with change is that it takes them out of their comfortable routine.
So many people build something and then when they feel it's okay they just let it go into a world of sameness.
They don't challenge it and so when the world of business reinvents itself which is what it's doing today, all of a sudden the word change becomes an important part of who they are and what they're doing.
They don't know how to deal with it and so what happens is rather than change creating a process of improvement, change creates a reaction that is fueled by fear.
What we have to do is get people out of the fear mentality and back into looking for what the change can create in terms of improvement.
