Episode 9 Tim Rogers

Tim Rogers gives his audience the impression that he's leaving nothing in reserve when he puts on a show. His authenticity and energy is something I have admired for decades. So I literally did a happy dance the day Tim agreed to talk to me for Where Art and Grief Meet. I. Did. A. Jig.

Although I had prepared a list of questions and themes in advance of our conversation, it all flew out the window when we sat across the ether and chatted about creativity and grief and the benefits to the troubled heart and soul of a creative spirit.

Tim and the Twin Set have just finished recording a sequel to his brilliant album, "What Rhymes with Cars and Girls". It's called "Tines of Stars Unfurled", which will be released on 24 February 2023. I am keenly standing by for it as "What Rhymes with Cars and Girls" has been on high rotation in the soundtrack of my life for years. The bluesy fiddle reminds me of my brother and there's nothing that isn't perfect about that.

This episode has been a little delayed. Apologies.

Creativity is an intrinsic part of Garry Moore's expression. He has worked with a camera in hand for almost 40 years, mostly in the commercial space, but has always been able to find ways of expressing his creative compulsion no matter what.

Garry and I talk about his creative background and what value creativity lends to his life. He discusses his creative process, and talks about how his awareness and intent lends value to his personal pursuits and experiences.

Garry's website contains some artistic jewels as well as a catalogue of his commercial work. I urge you to look, particularly at Thanatos, which is a series of images he describes the process of creating in this episode. .

I felt very privileged to meet Marina Strocchi and thrilled all over again when I had the chance to revisit our conversation to edit this episode.

Marina is an artist whose work I have loved for well over a decade, What was unbelievably special was that when I approached her for a chat I really only the most cursory idea of her story and none of the depth of her insight into artmaking and its relationship to healing and growth, particularly in Australia's remote indigenous communities.

This audio is from his final public performance, recorded at Armenistis in Athens at 3am on 7 March, 2012. He died on the night of 8 March 2012.
