What is paradise with Revelation?

Welcome to the Fallen Paradise is suspenseful and ironic, with a wonderful glimpse of Louisiana culture in Tangipahoa Parish, or Baxter Parish in its fictional incarnation. The book examines rural culture, family loyalty, and Louisiana politics with its back-country wheeling and dealing. The story-telling has a wonderful sense of movement, and the reader feels carried along in the rides to the outskirts of the parish, visiting locations that are vibrant and palpable. At the same time, the plot pushes at the limits of credibility, providing humorous forays into the lengths to which people will go to protect their territories. The ruralism of the novel offers a strong sense of the clannish ties that evokes the idea of the Highlands where the laird of the land oversees justice. The story challenges the reader to examine those key moments in life where the past conflicts with the future as Jesse Tadlock evaluates his values, his legacy, and his destiny.

I have forgotten who recommended this book but please, let me say thank you, thank you, thank you whoever it was. This book was so very good it took my breath away. I was simply blown away not expecting such a great book.

The description of each character was amazing. The storyline (perhaps because I'm from the south, not sure) was unbeatable. The dialogue was spot-on. It was like a book I'm looking for now; one which I hate to put down and can't wait to pick up; then annoyed with myself because it's the end. Foolish, I know.

I still have it and think I will read it again before the end of the year. That, my friend, is what an impact it made on me. And I just read that a new book is coming out in November. Hoorah! I can hardly wait.

As an aside, I like his politics, too.

Dark and Mysterious

Not typically a fan of dark romance, I find myself pleasantly surprised by this first book in the Boston Underworld series.

I will admit that it took me a little longer to get invested into the story, but in the end, I didn't want to reach the conclusion. Luckily for me, the series continues.

Tracy Marks is surprising as the narrator. She is able to fully convince me with her male character's. And her accents are fascinating and I believe spot on.

This Will Burn So Good

So hot, it might burn! The Boston Underground is a steamy, sexy and dark mafia romance series that makes bad guys seem almost good... or at least, incredibly alpha males that will make you swoon. Oh, and definitely listen to this series - the narrators are amazing and enhance the story.

Love....Against All Odds.

This book has so much going for it.....an interesting deep plot, likable characters, bad guys, action, suspense, love, and mystery. It's the kind of book that keeps you on the edge. You never know what to expect. It's a true "escape". The kind of story that you know would never be personally real but you enjoy the diversion. Loved the ending.

I liked this book but call me a romantic....because I still enjoy stories that have more romance than sex. I know...I know...you're going to say "but this is a Mob story"....yes, I guess I would expect some sex, but when there is so much explicit sex in a book it can take away a lot of the sensual build up....the anticipation. But...even still, this is a well written story filled with suspense and the rawness of gangsters .

The narration was perfect. Each voice was unique and the accents were quite good. Doesn't get much better. Great job!

An Edgy, Intense, Gripping Five Star Romance!

Wow, I loved this story, and have so many great things to say about Crow which was written by A. Zavarelli and narrated by Tracy Marks. This story deserves all Five Stars, and if it was possible to give more stars, I would.

~ Crow has an edgy and intense plot told from both Mac and Lachlan's POV's. The story moves at a great pace, and has all kinds of twists.

I wanted to hate it

I got to this book through all the controversy caused by the author's remarks liking maternity leave to a sabbatical. as a mom, it made me really mad and I wanted to read her book to further criticize her. However, this was an interesting story of a woman who made a crazy choice but grew up through it and learned things about her self. Is it a literary masterpiece? not at all. At times it is childish and Liz is every millennial cliche of entitlement and shallowness. Is it the book I wanted to hate? not at all! I must be a millenial cliche myself, becuase I could identify with Liz...sometimes. It is a fun book that keeps you reading and helps cope with the stress of traffic.

Different Perspective

Enjoyed the different perspective on maternity leave. Fun and light with a fresh turn of events.

Awesome!

As I am out on maternity leave I read this book and use it as inspiration to develop and uplift myself before I return to work. I loved the concept and the insight.

Feel good chick book

A great listen when you are making a drive. It's okay if you zone out because you can catch back up on the story easily. Feel good and enjoyable.

Black Dog Mom

Since I enjoyed the 1st book in this series, I was intrigued by the title "New Uses for Old Boyfriends. Sadly this book was more about Lila's delusional & materialistic mother Daphne than Lila's search for true love or personal achievement.

When Lila (32) goes home to Black Dog Bay after a divorce leaves her broke, she finds her mother Daphne is also broke after her father's death. (Evidently Dad didn't teach either Lila or Daphne anything about basic finances). Lila seemed very shallow, prioritizing men and money over female friends.

I found Daphne particularly annoying: a married woman who expected her husband to completely support the family while she spent money like water. Daphne kept whining that her husband had promised to "always take care of her", as if she was a not-too-bright child and he was just a meal ticket.

It was unbelievable when mother and daughter decided to open a retail store, in spite of having absolutely no business sense or ambition. The women seemed to worship ultra expensive apparel, was if wearing a designer brand makes people "better". I was not surprised when they "forgot to purchase business insurance" and made other careless business mistakes.

P,S. The secondary characters were more entertaining than Lila or her high school boyfriends. No graphic sex. Excellent narration.

Exciting Sexy Romance!

Josh Goodman does a fantastic job with his narration, giving all the characters a distinct, engaging, and believable voice. I really enjoy his performance with this series.

A love story, a new brother, a confession, extreme sports, and a kick ass lead into the next book in the series! Lauren Blakely has a real flair for writing, don't miss out on this series.

Another Sinful cliffhanger

The author weaves a heck of tangled Web of sin, sex, mystery & love. Most of the plot twist I have seen coming. however, I did not see this cliffhanger coming. I am bummed that the next book in the series is out on Audible yet. now I have wait for more.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like all of the characters, but Colin is my favorite. The Sloan brothers are some of my favorites of Lauren Blakely's characters. He's gone through so much, and gone on to become a man that his dad would be proud of.

What about Josh Goodmans performance did you like?

Accents

It's such a great pity that a great book has been ruined by the accents that the narrator has tried without success to mimic! It would have been much better to have found a person from the UK to narrate this book. Or not try to mimic the various accents at all. It spoils the overall feel of the story. I have to be honest, such a wonderful story though.

What is that accent thing all about?!

I'm still listening, and really enjoying the story, but the accents are bizarre, to say the least! The attempt at a Cornish accent is in fact more like some sort of Scottish/Irish pirate mash up!

There is also some weird mockney in their too - dropping Ts randomly appears to be the general approach there.

I've listened to a few audio books narrated by this woman, and they're great, but those required her native Australian accent.

This is torture, and it's really detracting from the story for me.

A grating experience

What disappointed you about The Lake House?

Another supposedly easy listen ruined by dreadful narration. Why, oh why, does this narrator insist on attempting regional accents of which she is so blatantly uninformed? In this recording we have efforts at Scottish (I know only because the character's origin is detailed), what I imagine is meant to be the West Country, and London, all mangled, often mixed, and with some of the most excruciating mauling of vowels I have ever heard. All this with undertones of an Australian lilt. If the story warranted it I would buy the print version instead. Alas, it doesn't.

Got me through 2 X long haul flights

I was gripped from the first chapter. Great characters, an in depth story with twists and turns. I like the way the author lets the reader into the secret before the detective.

A really good listen

Chose this book quite randomly, found it quite gripping and enjoyable. Definitely would recommend it.

A real find!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! Its a great read/listen. Its an unusual story, with just the right number of twists and turns. Its intelligently written and the characters are all well drawn, with each one interesting. It bounced along nicely and I always wanted to know what happened next.

What about Gabrielle Glaister and Amelie Jewell s performance did you like?

The narration was faultless.

Any additional comments?

I wasn't sure that this would be for me, as I am not usually one for narration from a child's point of view. This book was narrated by several characters, including children. However, it was so beautifully written that it really worked. I have not read this author's work before. I read a review elsewhere from someone who said they had 'grown-up' with Lisa Jewell's books since her early 20s, and that they have evolved from stories of family life by young adults, to include older characters. For that reason, I wouldn't rush to read her earlier work. However, I will be downloading her more recent and future novels.

Weak in several parts

What disappointed you about The Girls?

An interesting collection of characters, but Grace and Tyler were the only ones I knew more about by the end of the story - all the others were pretty static and caricatured (the unorthodox home-schooled girls, the holocaust survivor, the non-PC grandfather etc). The new crime mirroring an earlier one was an interesting concept, but the connection between the two was presented very quickly and briefly.

The logistics of the assault on Grace disappointed me most of all; that the perpetrator managed to do everything required whilst presumably in a state of great agitation without being observed by anyone and within a very tight timescale defied belief.

What aspect of Gabrielle Glaister and Amelie Jewell s performance might you have changed?

Gabrielle Glaister's narration was smooth and flowing. Her representation of different characters was skillful. Given that, why was she not given the voice of Pip's letters? I found Amelie Jewell's narration to be very irritating and in my opinion it was an indulgence to include the author's daughter as a narrator.

WOW!!!!!! What a great action packed thriller

Joshua Hood hit this ball out of the park! A home run thriller!!!!! It is fast paced and auctioned packed that just keeps heating up as the book progresses! I'll be reading this one more than once :)

Joshua Hood's debut novel is fantastic

I actually know Mr. Hood through an online forum for thriller fans and aspiring writers so my review might seem a bit biased. With all that being said, let me say first that Mr Hood does a fantastic job avoiding many of the clichés found in many military thrillers.

Mason Kane isn't your typical patriotic action hero who always knows right from wrong, but rather a man who is walking a path of redemption. Literary snobs might complain that his character isn't that well developed yet but keep in mind that this is only the first book in what will hopefully be A very successful franchise for years to come. The narration was pretty good for the most part, though a little long winded sounding at times. Can't wait for the next book which is set to release in Summer of 2016.

Diamond in the rough!

After reading/listening to over 345 books its rare to find a GEM! Joshua Hood is veteran of our Special Forces and it show's in his writing style. Well written perfectly researched and a bit of humor well placed throughout this book.

John Pruden does a great job.

Clear as Fire is awesome!

Clear By Fire is the first in a new series from new author Joshua Hood. Great lead character Mason Kane, but a big plus is a tough female named Renne. I got the Kindle version and the audio so I could switch back and forth.

Great premise, an aging ex-Navy man is whiling away ...

Not my usual bill of fare, as I am more of a Sci-Fi/Fantasy reader, but I saw this on a Kindle daily deal notice and took a chance. Great premise, an aging ex-Navy man is whiling away his remaining days, alone at the bottom of a bottle, in his home by the sea. We learn of his days as a POW and a terrible betrayal. His VERY able daughter comes home after sailing all over the world seeking fame, fortune and adventure. We are told how she developed her own love of the sea and sailing and self-reliance. She imparts to her pickled father a tale of how her sailing ship Seamark - bought and paid for by the blood, sweat and tears of her hard work at sea - was stolen from her. She sets about preparing to recover her boat, getting an old schooner seaworthy again, stocking, provisioning - all the while entreating her father to come along. You will love how she convinces him to come along on her adventure. What follows is a breakneck thrill ride involving war and piracy in the (deep) South Pacific, warlords, secret government plots, sea battles, a smart - but vicious - dog, dirty priests, conniving whores...oh, my. It was fun. A worthy summer read.

Salty, adventurous and fun

If you like salty novels and I what I mean by salty is books about the sea and adventure, you can't go wrong with this book. Very well written, the written prose draws you in until all of a sudden you are in an adventure novel that includes betrayal, pirates, godforsaken places and plenty of action. In the beginning Mr. jones obviously researched his nautical knowledge not only of wooden boats but the waters that surround the novels area, albeit fictional in that sense, anyone who knows that area will agree that it is an area that is full of nefarious denizens in real life. This is a great read and I highly recommend this novel.

Good book to test your commitment to finishing a book.

I had a hard time getting drawn in on this.

In love with the hero!

Ben Martin is now on my list of favorite heroes. If ever a woman needed a man like Ben to hijack her plane, it was Lannis. Unfortunately, Lannis doesn't understand that at first, and just when she thinks she's thankfully seen the last of Ben, he walks back into her life and offers to be a much needed friend.

Hijacked is superbly written, and the story deals with issues that are relevant to many women today, unfortunately. If you like a clean, beautiful and inspiring book, then you'll love this one.

Excellent suspense and characterization

This suspense novel written for a female audience moved me to tears at one point, and kept me reading far more than I really had time to do. Lannis is a strong main character, even as she deals with struggles against physical, psychological and spiritual odds. You'll find yourself rooting for her. Highly recommended.

a book with a little bit of everything :)

I tend to read certain genres when I'm in particular moods, but this is one of those few books I think any reader would enjoy no matter what's going on in their own life. It's got page-turning suspense, plenty of romance without being sappy or vulgar, and just enough inspiration to make it an uplifting read without being "preachy". I loved that the characters were just ordinary people put into extraordinary circumstances. And it made me look in the mirror to see if my "brown hair / brown eyes" could possibly be described as coffee-colored and chocolate-brown like Landis's ;) Download it for a vacation read - you'll love it!

More Than Just a Hijacking

Hijacked wasn't what I expected, but I can't say I was disappointed. What I expected was romantic suspense, start to finish. It's closer to suspense followed by romance. That said, Hijacked offers a real hero who demonstrates the courage, virtue, and self-disclipine that would have any heroine worth her salt swooning. Lannis isn't a swooner, though. She's got too much pain in her past and has filled her plane with more emotional baggage than an airbus could hold. That's where Ben gets to show us his stuff - patience, persistence, and compassion.
