    A more-than-worthy sequel
I loved the first book in this series, and this is a more-than-worthy sequel. We follow Marc and Jessie on a roller coaster ride into the world of digital crime and currency. There's lots of stuff to learn, but that doesn't get in the way of a gripping story with two smokin' hot MCs. Don't miss it!
    Sex and education
An adventure imparting knowledge and Eros. Fun interwoven with suspense and intrigue. Well written and executed. Trust is building amongst the crew.
A modern day TREASURE HUNT with a TWIST!
Hand down, this is my favorite Brad Vance novel, but you're going to want to read Book 1 in the series (Would I Lie to You) first to really appreciate it. What's not to LOVE about this book? Marc and Jesse are two sexy techno pirates in search of the fabled "Bitcoin Hoard" worth hundreds of millions. They must find the treasure before the forces of evil, and their personal nemeses, beat them to it. Travelling the world to exciting locales, the intrepid duo face life-threatening challenges on their quest. Along the way they also discover deeper, more intense feelings for one another, and each must face the risk of revealing another hidden layer of his soul to his lover.
Fear not: you don't have to understand a thing about Bitcoins and global monetary funds to enjoy this adventure. Brad Vance keeps it all simple and straightforward, at the same time teaching us a thing or two about the brave new world we live in - and perhaps some of its ugly underbelly.
But it's not all about the big hunt. The greatest treasure in this story in the developing relationship between our two protagonists. Marc's submissive nature in the bedroom is showcased here, as well as his incredible ingenuity for making sex with Jesse a new challenge each and every time. Jesse's hard outer shell begins to crack in this book, and we catch glimpses of the real man inside. Brad writes this kind of relationship very, very well.

For ten years Emily Dobbs and Marcie Carter have been the closest of friends. They've raised their kids together, shared joy and heartache, exchanged neighborhood gossip over tea. But when Marcie's son, now a college freshman sports star, is arrested for date rape, the bond between the families could be shattered forever.
As the Carters try to deal with the unthinkable, Emily discovers her daughter has been hiding a terrible secret...a secret that threatens the futures of both families. Not sure what I'm missing...
I'm surprised at my disappointment in this book, as I was sold on this new author by multiple 4+ star audio books. I'm not the person who has to finish a book once I start, so I did not finish this, but I did listen to quite a bit before deciding to return it.
My main issues were the narrator and authenticity of character behavior. While the narrator definitely wasn't the worse I've ever heard, and this fact alone didn't completely turn me off from the book, I was annoyed by the voice change when reading dialogue by the male characters. It was very chees
    Great book
I really enjoyed this book. The narrator had a very pleasant voice. I would reccomen this book.
    A Must
This book addresses the topic of rape in a timely, straight forward and respectful way. It is a "must" read or listen to open a frank and open discussion. Totally tasteful presentation of a delicate topic.
    Excellent Book
While the synopsis gives away a good portion of the book, it's still excellent as friendships, families and new relationships are tested in ways none of them would have imagined. The narrator does a great job through the book, allowing the story to tell itself and not the other way around
    Well written story about rape
Would you listen to Mending Fences again? Why?
No... as a rape survivor the story was too focused on the survivors life and outlook. Not that it is a bad thing but it isn't a comfortable thing as a survivor.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the building of the characters. Sherryl Woods is known for building characters and worlds that as a reader you really come to care about. This one is no different. It is a very well written beautiful story - just hits too close to home as a rape survivor.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. Most of her books I pretty much do listen to all in one sitting. But this is a good book that makes you uncomfortable if you've been there.
    Any additional comments?
This is a beautiful story about families growing together and ending up torn apart by rape. Would I recommend reading it? Absolutely! However even if you think you're ready if you've been raped having it brought to life can be dangerous.

    Publisher's Summary:
Hurricane Ophelia is bearing down on New York City. And in a matter of hours, six people, along with their families, friends, and millions of other New Yorkers living around them, will be caught up in the horrific flooding it unleashes.
Ellen Wharton has flown into New York from London, regardless of the weather and her husband's worry. The successful interior designer is intent on seeing her lively architect mother and has an important personal appointment to keep. But despite Ellen's urging, when the storm hits, seventy-four-year-old Grace Madison refuses to leave her Tribeca apartment in the midst of the evacuation zone, and they must eventually wade through chest-high water to the police boats outside.
British investment banker Charles Williams is traveling on business but is also eager to see his young daughters, who live with his beautiful, estranged ex-wife in SoHo. Desperate to find them, he checks the shelters where thousands have taken refuge and runs into Ellen and her mother.
Juliette Dubois, a dedicated ER doctor, fights to save lives when the generators at her hospital fail.
NYU students Peter Holbrook and Ben Weiss, living in a shabby downtown walkup, are excited by the adventure of the approaching hurricane, refuse to evacuate, and settle in with junk food and beer until their building threatens to collapse. Should they swim for it or not?
A day of chaos takes its toll. Lives, belongings, and loved ones are swept away. Heroes are revealed as the city and New Yorkers struggle to face a natural disaster of epic proportions. And then the real challenge begins, as the survivors face their futures, with damage to repair and scars to heal.
Danielle Steel fearlessly tackles a catastrophe and its aftermath with characters who are joined together by accident, then share their vulnerabilities, regrets, losses, and hopes. Keenly observed and brilliantly told, this is an unforgettable story that proves that while life can change in an instant, even the darkest storm can bring forth courage, resilience, unexpected joy, and new life. And it reminds us all that nature, at its fiercest, is a powerful force nothing and no one can resist.

    Captivating
Another captivating book by Danielle Steel. Started listening to it and had to finish it all at once!!!
    I'm disappointed with the repeating!
The story was okay! I don't know why DS has to keep repeating things over and over. I haven't read any of her books lately, because of this. Same thing happened with this book. We get it the first time. Maybe, she has to make word count. Her earlier books are amazing. Now, not so much!
    Male performance
I did not like the male voice that did the performance the way he did the women's voices was very mocking would be better with a female actor
    rushing waters
it was a wonderful story loved all the characters. very well written.she made you think you were there.
    wonderful
    loved it, great story
a few cliffhangers but that happens. a few more chapters would of been nice. the story went very fast. a must read.

    Publisher's Summary:
John Lynch has found his literary voice in this life story of disadvantaged soul, Billy McErlane. Having a harlot for a mother doesn't make life easy and nor does going to jail at 14, but when he is reunited with his childhood sweetheart, peace enters Billy's heart. Then fate deals a wrecking blow. The book shows Billy through his own eyes and words as he learns to forgive, let go of the bad things in life, accept with grace the good things and finally reach out to others. It's a coming-of-age book that begins in tragedy and ends in hope. A bittersweet story of love, loss, and one young man's refusal to accept what life offers.
    Members Reviews:
A touching story about a man's journey to overcome the hand life dealt him.
After I read Lynchâs Bio, I was curious about his writing; two different genres, written under two different names. I read one of his historical fiction books: âA Just and Upright Man,(R.J. Lynch)â and then purchased âZappaâs Mamâs A Slapperâ(John Lynch)
I enjoyed both, but âZappaâs Mamâs A Slapperâ really touched me. This is a book that had so much reality and feeling; I felt I could have been reading a biography, rather than fiction.
Lynch portrays the many aspects of Billy McErlaines journey from life as a child at home with his siblings and their dysfunctional, promiscuous mother, to his involvement with the criminal element in the neighborhood, arriving at a point where he breaks under pressure and commits a felony that results in him being sent to a Young Offenders institution at the age of 14. There he sees more of the vilest sides of humanity. Fortunately, with inspiration and direction from his counselors, he discovers a budding talent with a camera and Photoshop. Both are skills that he takes with him when he is released on parole at the age of 18.
After he returned to society, Billy (known as Zappa) is determined to pull himself out of the environment he grew up in. As I read, I wondered if he could do it, when those around him chose to do the only thing they knew. His mother made my heart ache, and as I read the last couple of chapters, my eyes filled with tears.
In the end, Billy has to make a life altering decision. Will he break the cycle, or will he watch history repeat itself.
This book, made me think about how sheltered my own life has been; also about how important stability and love are for people of all ages. "Zappa's Mam's a Slapper" is not all about tragedy and despair thoughâI laughed at times, I admired Billy at times, I shook my head many times, and I feared for him often.
This isnât a read for the faint of heart: it is a harsh and sometimes ugly look at humanity. It can offer hope for those who struggle to rise above their circumstances; it should open the eyes of others to humility and gratitude for having been dealt a kinder hand. I am not traditionally âreligious,â but the phrase âBut for the grace of God, there go I,â came to me.
A great British novel about a great British story
Zappaâs mam is indeed a slapper. And Zappa (who understandably goes by âBillyâ) is the product of a casual encounter she canât even pick out from the rest. Billy, his mother, and his brother and sisters live on a sink estate, one of many that unfortunately pepper our great land.

The Christmas season offers little cheer for Eileen Dunlop, an unassuming yet disturbed young woman, trapped between her role as her alcoholic father's carer and her day job as a secretary at the prison.
When the charismatic Rebecca Saint John arrives as the new counsellor at the prison, Eileen is enchanted and unable to resist what appears to be a miraculously budding friendship.
In a Hitchcockian twist, her affection for Rebecca ultimately pulls her into complicity in a crime that surpasses her wildest imaginings.
    Critic Reviews:
"Fully lives up to the hype. A taut psychological thriller, rippled with comedy as black as a raven's wing, Eileen is effortlessly stylish and compelling." (The Times)
"Excellent...a taut, well-written, and completely engrossing novel...culminating in a dynamite ending." (Boston Globe)
    Members Reviews:
Fantastic reader made this good, wouldve struggled otherwise
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this myself but wouldn't think its everyone cup of tea. Not much happens and it's basically a monologue of self loathing. Being rather misanthropic myself, I like a miserable story, but if yr looking for excitement fairies sunshine love and unicorns you wont find it here. Having said all that I think it would be better read than in audio format, but this reader made such a good job of maintaining interest and texture , she has made all the difference. The ending is weak tho, I felt let down by that. And we need to know more of Eileen's later life other than she got rich.
    A stunning book
A wonderful and compelling read, which starts mundanely enough with the gruesome detail of a desperate life and slowly creeps into a dark thriller. The twists and turns are at once subtle and shocking and hard to read, and the sordid day today grit of the life laid bare is all encompassing. The tension slowly tightens and becomes suffocating, and most striking of all is the bravery of having such an honest portrayal of a young woman with none of the graces and all the reality. This is stunning writing and I hope it wins the Booker!
Great writing but a long wait for the action
The narrative voice of the protagonist is intense and compelling, the sense of an important message, unbelievable crime and a revelation that is to come runs through the entire book.
Eileen is shown with a raw honesty and an amazing ability of self-reflection and analysis, which makes her a marvellous character you want to know more about.
We learn more and more about her childhood, her current predicament and her job at the prison.
The story, however, tends to drag on, with long stretched with little action and a growing repetitiveness in the monologue as Eileen shares her inner thoughts and retells the story of one week before Christmas, when the arrival of Rebecca awakens something in her that had been dormant.
Many passages that seemed to be leading to the big crime and drama didn't go anywhere and I felt disappointed.
The long build-up evetually led to a let-down of sorts for me, I expected something different or more.
However, I must say I'm really glad I did read the story as the writing in many places is truly superb and Eileen and Rebecca are two characters I won't forget.
    So judge for yourself.

    Good freaking book
It's a King book ofcourse it's good book. I mean come on what's not to love
One of the Best King Books, top 5 at least
    Any additional comments?
What a brilliant selection of stories. Many writers would be happy to have produced just one of these masterpieces in their life time and king comes out with four in one book.
You will know the Shawshank Redemption and the Body as they were extremely popular films (The Body was used as the basis for Stand By Me) All 4 stories are superb and a must for any King fan or someone just wanting to dip their toe into the King back catalogue.
    four great stories
four brilliant stories, all very different and all narrated excellently. Couldn't stop listening and I know I will listen to them again!
    Excellent work Frank
Excellent stories narrated expertly and believably. He was the voice of Red, and Mr Adler. very much in character at all times.
Love these stories, poor sound quality though
These novella's by King are iconic, all but one have been turned into movies.
The Breathing Method is one of the most moving, yet gruesome stories I have ever read.
