How Sweet To Discover Love
I enjoyed this story. The story line was easy to follow. The author drew the reader in and allowed us to experience the many emotions of her characters. The main characters were both defined as strong individuals. The story had intrigue, discoveries, suspense, romance, and no sexual scenes.
Sweet story
This novella, although short captured a range of emotions, from the characters. Berks went from maudlin and sad to intrigued and excited. Tessie's background story was compelling and her resolve to lead a respectable life thereafter was endearing.
The supporting characters were a wonderful addition. I'm sure their stories were interesting as well. Lovers of "clean" romances would appreciate this novel.
I envision a sequel
As I read ALL the books in this collection--the pact stories , the betting season stories, the romances--from the various authors involved, I kept thinking about poor Lady Arrington and how she should be acquitted. This particular book has given me ideas for either a not guilty verdict or an insanity plea. Also, several references to her and Arrington, especially Harry's remark that someone else would have killed Arrington if his wife hadn't, has made me even more desirous of seeing her go free. Perhaps even the Duke of Danby could be persuaded to help. After she gets free, she could have a romance of her own. It could almost be a comedy of errors as the six men who made the pact could try to save some unsuspecting man from getting involved with her. I can imagine all kinds of mischief and misunderstandings. I would enjoy such a book being a collaboration of all the authors involved in these stories since they each have different strengths. Anyone else out there agree with me? If such a book were written, would you buy it?
Writing is good but story is average and not believable.
In this novella, a gentleman swears off marriage after his friend is murdered by his wife. However, he rethinks his pact when he meets Theresa Birkin and finds she is a beautiful breath of fresh air and someone he is willing to take a risk marrying.
While the writing was good, the story itself was a average and not that believable. Berks (our hero) says some pretty terrible things to Tessie and I'm shocked she was able to look past them and find Berks honorable. I wouldn't have wanted him that's for sure!
We were introduced to characters from other novellas by Ava Stone, whom I typically like, and I will be checking those out. This novella is skippable though. 2.5 stars.
Not as satisfying as other Ava Stone stories
This is Berks' and Tessie's story. After the murder of a life long friend by his wife, Berks swears off women.
