If you're NFA, this book is a necessity
NFA was one of the most engaging books I've ever read, and I definitely felt the connection between the author's insight and advice to my personal life. The book is the perfect size to carry around in a book bag or backpack, and I will be doing just that for constant tips and reminders how to keep my creative feet off the ground. The "IC" Leisawitz refers to has been a real buzz kill for me as of recently, so it was refreshing and inspiring to see different tactics on how to handle it, among countless others.
This book is for anyone trying to do their own creative thing in a world full of uphill battles and challenges. The tools and tips are all right here!
Make it Real
Every minute of our lives is numberedâa truth with which most of us are aware, one that most of us avert, yet one that Jeff Leisawitz stares at succinctly in his delightfully profane and empowering creativity guide, Not F*ing Around (NFA). Leisawitz however does not sit in despair at his time sensitive observation, but instead leads the reader on a quest to identify oneâs passions and to connect with them personally.
Before exploring this book, I knew I loved playing guitar and writing, but that didnât mean I was getting far in these endeavors. And I will not say that this book is a magic recipe that grosses marvelous success overnightâJeff Leisawitz himself would recognize that as bullsh*t. Where NFA comes through for me, in addition to supporting chapters that guide me in pursuit of interests, is itâs demand that I declare my desires, out loud, to a breathing human being(s). These declarations must be specific, attainable, real.
In large thanks to NFAâs concrete steps regarding said matter, I am writing in defined installments towards a full-length nonfiction piece about growing up on a sailboat and joining the U.S. Coast Guard, and I have been recording an album of original music with the help of a friend in Seattle, Washington.
Jeff Leisawitz challenges his readers to look directly at personal matters of hindrance, to invite them into the room, and to function despite their presence. Risky business, but then again, weâre not f*ing around here. Take hold of your goals, run with them, and donât stop. But most of all, Leisawitz proposes, fuel your objectives with love.
Freak-Flag-Flyin' hearts rejoice! This is an awesomely groovy, inspirational book that speaks right to us...
This jam-packed little tome is the perfect kick in the ass to get you on your way to kicking ass! I'm finally writing my first book as a rock & roll historian (after gathering notes for it for six (!!!!!!) years, and the inspiration for us off-the-beaten-path kind of people was much-needed and right on time.
