What does Alex Jennings bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?

He has a very pleasant voice, the expression is good without going over the top, and the dialogue is varied and convincing.

This is crime thriller set in four countries, featuring a bit of art, a lot of murder and scene changes across four countries. The main character is Al Hershey, a private investigator with a military past and a cynicism resembling that of many other private investigators in novels and films.

The story is passably interesting for a light read. The writing is decidedly second rate, with none of the characters brought to life except Hershey who doesn't extend beyond two dimensions. The dialogue at times feels juvenile and unconvincing with naive comments and unnecessary explanations. If it was pitched as a teenage crime novel I would have given it 4-5 stars.

Very good Brit Mystery!

First, let me say what I loved best about this book: the narrator! Michael Tudor Barnes read this book at a perfect pace, with good voices for the different characters. I feel that many narrators read maddeningly slowly-- slower than most people speak in conversation, often making it frustrating to listen. MTB was very good, hitting just the right listening speed. Beyond that, his voice quality and tone perfectly hit what sounded like [my idea of] the quintessential british mystery reading-voice, deep, resonant and having that lovely accent! I have already put a couple of other books he has narrated on my wish list here.

The book itself is also very good. I listened for a long time, convinced I knew the solution, thinking it would be a ho-hum read. It was not. The book starts moving faster as the end approaches, and takes a few very unexpected turns which made it a very satisfying read.

This was the first book by Betty Rowlands I have ever read. It is the story of Constable Sukey Reynolds, and I gather that there are more than currently available in audio version. So sad. This story was quite well-written. In this episode, Sukey is new to this police team, but not to policing as a career. I don't know some of the details, not having read previous books, but one character from her former position was worked into the book to help explain her background and how she made the move to the new team.

The story has the theme of a Professor Lamont, who is seeking to help someone decide the authenticity of a possible document by St. Paul. But of course, his life is far more complicated than that--leaving him appearing to be the best suspect for the inevitable murder that occurs. Sukey tries to walk a fine line between being observant of her new superior's dictates vs. following her own ideas of where the truth might lie. And the rest is all that makes the book interesting. I found it quite good. There is just something about British mysteries that I particularly like, and this one certainly did not disappoint.

This one was entertaining from the beginning, I had not heard of the author and just took a shot. I only listen when I'm at the gym and the last day walked six miles on the treadmill to hear the end of the story, it really kept me going. The reader was great, he had wonderful voices. The story was full of surprises and you would never guess what would happen next.

poor reader

I read the first book in print form, and enjoyed it so much I couldn't wait for the audio 2nd book. I am sick with disappointment; the reader is ruining the book. She reads the main character (a tough, self-sufficient girl) as if she were a retarded ten-year-old. I'm expecting her to break into baby talk at any moment.

Excellent narration, keeps you tuned!

The beginning of this book is utterly gripping, and then slightly dips and drags for the most part until the end, where the story comes together quite agreeably.

The narrator, however, is excellent and keeps one tuned as her voice eerily at times, transports you to the twisted world of the killer. Enjoy!

Unabridged versions..

A very good book. After having read most of the 'Kay Scarpetta' series a while back, I find the abridged versions of the audiobooks unnecessary. In fact crucial parts are being left out which comes to play in the later series. Also why pay ?7 per book which has been reduced to 3 chapters. I feel an audiobook needs to give you the same experience and value for money as a paperback version.

I love the author and cannot wait for her new book 'Port Mortuary' to be released. Hope audible.co.uk will have the unabridged version available.

Poor abridgement

I love these books, and always enjoy them. This book had a good plot, and the characters were as strong as ever, but I felt that the abridgement was done porrly. I felt that I was missing bits of the plot, and I could tell where they had cut chunks out. It did ruin it for me a bit.

Gripping though Scattered

I enjoyed the Slow Moon. I thought the concept and the story were all really great I just feel like it could have been better executed. The ending lacked the element of much surprise, as it wasn't hard to believe when you found out the truth. Also, there were underwritten side plots that lacked not only a purpose but weren't followed through on enough to be much more than a distraction from the main storyline. You will most likely however, be drawn in and stay there for the entire novel as it rarely slows. I feel the sideplots were there to help explain and further explore characters but it didnt get the job done.

Great mystery book to read and suspenseful!

This was a great book to read and I was hooked on it after reading the first few pages! The story was simple yet be forewarned. Try to read this book on a Friday night with no interruptions because you will probably end up staying up to try and finish it! It's that good! And don't read this book on the train because you might miss your stop!

Masterful!

Elizabeth Cox writes with eloquence, beauty, and a deeply soulful sense of the emotional traffic of people's inner lives. There is a story in this book...and it holds up well as a structure for our seeing into the personal experience of the characters as individuals as well as the life of the small community in which they live. A thoughtful tale...beautifully written...a worthy read from a gifted writer.

Can't compair to Jodi Picoult

Marie Claire magazine said this author was very much like Jodi Picoult. This author is Picoult wanna be. Not even near as good. Easy to figure out ending and characters are not expanded well. Also, a very strange relationship with the moon, which has no tie in.

A well-written novel about innocence lost

The Slow Moon is the story of what happens when the small town of South Pittsburg, TN is thrown into turmoil when an act of unspeakable brutality is committed against one of its children. Crow Davenport, 16, and his 14-year-old girlfriend, Sophie Chabot, sneak away from a party to make love when Crow remembers that he forgot his condoms in his car. He leaves Sophie to retrieve them, and in his absence Sophie is raped and assaulted. When he hears police sirens upon returning to the scene, Crow's first instinct is to flee, which he does.

The aftermath of Crow's decision and the harsh reality of what happened to Sophie cause life in South Pittsburg to virtually halt. There is a sea filled with accusations and doubts that flows through the heart of the locals.

S.T.O.R.M. series, interesting and fun start to a new series. Will, Gaia, and Andrew are apart of a team in which they are young spies. Fast paced and entertaining. Full of action. Lots of cool gadgets which is pretty cool. On to BOOK TWO.
