Let's set the scene: A beautiful beachside country club. A warm, boozy summer. A new girl trying to fit in. Conventionally "attractive" people all over the place. A potentially unhinged murderer hell-bent on doing anything she can to maintain her queen bee status. Sounds like a summer of fun! But that's "The In Crowd." Where the rich kids keep down the other rich kids. It's a fun watch. Plus, it shows you a whole new way to apply lip gloss, which looks cool but seems impractical. We pair it with Cameleon, a 2018 Chardonnay from Mendoza, Argentina.

Adults everywhere were pissed that a popular video game was full of so much violence that people decided to make a movie about it and we're all grateful. Mortal Kombat (1995) is a shlocky action film with some terrible dialogue that actually has some decent fight sequences. Sure it feels like it should be a SyFy original movie called "Demon Fight Saga Tournament" or something stupid but we love it anyway. And the soundtrack? I don't want to live in a world without it. We pair it with a 2014 The Immortal Zin. The label looks semi-homemade but the wine is good.

Such. A. Good. Movie. It's a memorable mockumentary chronicling the cut-throat world of dog shows. It's a master class in comedic delivery and timing. And the cast is EVERYTHING. We tried pairing it with Double Dog Dare Cabernet Sauvignon, which didn't work out so well. But we followed it up with Time Waits for No One by Finca Bacara from the Jumilla region of Spain and it was great.

It's time for "America's Sweethearts." Two of the biggest movies stars in the country break up and lie to the press about their relationship just so they can sell a crappy movie. So I guess it's based on real life? There are sooo many people in this movie. Walken. Cusak. Crystal. Roberts. Zeta-Jones. But I would bet no one remembers it, which is a shame because it's pretty funny. It's a good middle-of-the-day-with-nothing-to-do-but-watch-a-mindless-movie movie. And it's free on HBO Max! We rightfully pair it with a Cabernet Sauvignon from Slow Press.

Everyone loves "The Avengers" right? Well, we're finally watching it. And by "it" we mean "The Avengers" from 1998 starring Uma Thurman. It's hokey and awesome and should be on your rainy day watch list. Spies in the 90's were clearly flawless. And they're British? Obviously! We pair the movie with Tiny Umbrellas Cabernet Sauvignon. It was...a choice.

Revamping an old favorite by making fun of the things that made it popular? Always a good idea. And "The Brady Bunch Movie" is the perfect example. The enduring power of "Sure, Jan" is a testament to how good this movie is. We pair it with an awesome Cabernet Sauvignon by Big Six that was aged in bourbon barrels. This is our second bourbon-aged wine on the show and we need more. They're so layered.

Come on babe, why don't we paint the town? And by "paint the town" we mean watch a movie. Specifically "Chicago," the semi-controversial pick for Best Picture. The source material is excellent. The movie is a star-studded event type film that everyone loves to sing along to. So what's the harm in giving it a watch? We paired it with Block Nine 2019 Pinot Noir from California, which ended up being a good bottle. I feel like I need to say "and all that jazz."

Liz Purr is the cat's meow. But now she's dead so let's watch a movie about it. Who doesn't want to watch a comedy from the 90's about a group of girls that accidentally murder their best friend who just also happened to be the most popular girl in school and then they try to cover it up with a makeover? That's "Jawbreaker" for you. We paired it with Candy, a delightful California Dry Rosé.

Filthy comedies featuring mostly female casts don't seem to get a fair shake, but "The Sweetest Thing" (featuring Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate, & Selma Blair) has so many solid jokes that people should be paying attention.  Sure the movie has some weird pacing issues, but you'll get over it because it's so damn funny. We pair it with a bottle of Ladies Night Cabernet Sauvignon.

We're finally watching "Bring It On!" Omg it has been like literal years but we did it. It's the seminole cheerleading film that Roger Ebert allegedly once called the "Citizen Kane of cheerleader movies." How we haven't burned through dvds of this movie over the years is beyond me. It's light. It's funny. And we suspect it inspired some fast talking high school movies like "Mean Girls" and "Easy A," but we're mostly guessing. We paired it with a bottle of Dark Horse Big Red Blend. It's a very accessible wine that you can totally find anywhere. They have national commercials now.
