What is a covenant? Is there a difference between the Abrahamic covenant and the Sinai covenant, or are they basically the same? What is the relationship between the old and new covenants? On this program, the hosts reveal how the study of ancient near-eastern treaties helps us to better understand all the different covenants we find mentioned in the Scriptures (originally aired 05-15-05).

WHI Classic • The kingdom of God can only be defined by attending closely to its unfolding in history. The reign of God takes different forms in this history, but its goal is nothing less than God’s dwelling in the midst of his people in righteousness, peace, and justice. But how does the Kingdom of God advance? What are its signs and how is it related to the redemption accomplished by Jesus Christ? That's our subject for this edition of the White Horse Inn as the hosts continue their discussion of The Great Commission (originally aired 01-16-11).

Who was Abraham and why did God choose to bless him along with his descendants? Was it because he was a particularly holy and righteous man? What was the nature of God’s promise, and what did Abraham need to do in order to make it happen? Also, how does the covenant ritual described in Genesis 15 ultimately point us to Golgotha? Shane Rosenthal discusses these issues with Mike Brown, co-author of Sacred Bond: Covenant Theology Explored.

WHI Classic • There is a lot of talk these days about “living the gospel” or “being the gospel,” as if we ourselves are the good news. Some even say that the church is an extension of Christ’s incarnation, as if Jesus came to provide the moral example or template for us to complete. There is only one redeemer and head of the church. To him alone all authority is given in heaven and on earth. On this program, the hosts encourage us to put the focus back on Christ and his gospel as they continue their new year long series on The Great Commission (originally aired 01-09-11).

In Genesis, Abraham was told that in his seed, all the nations would be blessed. So why then did God later command the Israelites to be separate from the nations? In Galatians, Paul argues that the Mosaic covenant was a temporary Gentile-excluding covenant that served to guard the Abrahamic promise until the true seed, Jesus Christ, fulfilled all righteousness. On this program, Shane Rosenthal continues his conversation with T. David Gordon, author of Promise, Law, Faith: Covenant-Historical Reasoning in Galatians.

WHI Classic • On this edition of the program, the hosts discuss The Great Commission. In this important mission statement, Jesus does not begin with the imperative, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations...” Rather, he first tells his disciples that, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Christ has already accomplished redemption, therefore the great commission is not a plan for us to execute or an ideal toward which we strive. We are not extensions of the incarnation, and our work is not redemptive. Rather Jesus has conquered sin, death, and hell, and calls us as his ambassadors to announce this good news to the world.

Scholars such as James Dunn and N.T. Wright have argued that both Old and New Testament saints were members of one and the same covenant and that believers are justified on the basis of their faithfulness to that covenant. But is this what the Apostle Paul really taught? Shane Rosenthal discusses this important issue with T. David Gordon, author of Promise, Law, Faith: Covenant-Historical Reasoning in Galatians.

Has smartphone technology changed the way we live and relate to others? Is there a relationship between social media usage and increased suicide rates among teens and preteens? How do images and short video clips affect the way we think about news stories and the world around us? On this program, Shane Rosenthal discusses these questions and more with T. David Gordon, who teaches a course on “media ecology” at Grove City College in Pennsylvania.

In the second chapter of John’s Gospel, people come to Jesus asking for a sign, and Jesus responded by saying, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up,” referring to the temple of his body. What this means is that he was the true temple, the true location of God’s holy presence with his people, which was prefigured throughout Israel’s history as a tabernacle or temple. On this program, the hosts will explore this theme of God dwelling with his people (originally aired 12-04-16).
