SoxFest returned for the 1st time in 5 years to the Ramova Theatre in Bridgeport. #markbuehrle returned to news that a statue would be unveiled in July and it was the highlight of the Friday ceremonies. Most of the #whitesox top prospects were in attendance and #guff caught up with #colsonmontgomery #hagensmith #chasemeidroth & #bradenmontgomery. The group discussed their excitement about the future of the organization and how they’re motivated to change the last narrative of the organization. Guff discusses how they’re able to focus on the work they have to do to get to the big leagues rather than the goal itself. While the dark cloud of 2024 is present, this group discusses why they hope they’re part of the conversation that changes it.

For the 1st time in 5 years, #soxfest returns to Chicago.  The last time SoxFest was held, #rickyrenteria was the manager, #timanderson was presented the #hankaaron award and the energy and buzz about the #whitesox was palpable.  5 years later, they're on their 3rd manager since Renteria and the Sox are coming off of the worst season in #mlb history.  And, now...the fan convention is back in a revamped format.  The Q&A with GM #chrisgetz is unlikely to happen, so #guff and BA (#briananderson) answer the questions that YOU have or would ask management and others if given the opportunity.

On the first #whitesox REKAP Podcast of 2025, #guff & #kap sitdown with GM #chrisgetz in the REKAP studios. In a lengthy discussion, several topics are discussed. The guys start by the toll the 2024 season took after setting the record for the most losses in #mlb history. Guff asks Getz why fans should still believe and about Getz’s plan for the organization. 

Getz is candid and meticulous in discussing how he’s changed the infrastructure of the White Sox, something fans don’t want to hear but is part of his long term plan and solution.  They discuss #garrettcrochet and how Getz learned of the demand for a contract extension last season during the trade deadline as the Sox were trying to flip him. The #whitesox made one of the biggest off-season trades thus far, sending #garrettcrochet to the #redsox for a 4-player minor league return with 2 top 54 prospects. Ryan McGuffey & Brian Anderson are back to discuss the deal in depth about how they can fill the void of trading their ace now and into the future.  #johnely has been in the Sox system for 8 years as a coach, most recently as the 2024 pitching coach of the #birminghambarons. Ely had a Birds Eye view and role on the development of some of the key cogs of the White Sox staff, not only in 2024, but well beyond.

Just as it appeared the #whitesox would leave the #mlb #wintermeetings in Dallas without trading #garrettcrochet, the #redsox intervened and struck a deal with #chrisgetz just before noon and the now former White Sox ace heads east in a trade eerily similar to one 8 years ago that saw #chrissale kickstart the first rebuild.

#guff is joined by #weei pre and post game Red Sox host Joe Weil as he discusses exactly what the White Sox got in return and why it’s a move that makes too much sense for both sides. Weil discusses the two players Chicago received that are ranked amongst the top 50 prospects in baseball, #kyleteel & #bradenmontgomery. 

Guff says while he understands fan frustration, this is a move that had to be made and now it’s up to Getz & company to develop and be right.

The #whitesox hold arguably the leagues' best trade chip this offseason, just weeks away from the #mlb #wintermeetings.  #garrettcrochet was the coveted arm on the market at last year's #tradedeadline, however, GM #chrisgetz held onto him.  Now, there's a race to acquire him, and Getz says they're coveting position players with the hopes of moving him by the end of the meetings.

The #whitesox hired #willvenable as their new manager last week. Venable has had quite the mentors throughout his young front office and coaching career. Most recently, he spent the past two seasons with the #texasrangers, winning the #worldseries in 2023 as the associate manager and sitting next to and learning from future Hall of Famer, #brucebochy. Boch joins #guff on the podcast and gives the background and credentials as to why Venable is ready for this job and responsibility.
