Season II Episode 4

This week the boys are back at the local Pub (Bar) to record a casual Podcast and catch up generally on the summer months.

Martin brings us all up to date on his recent travels and an encounter with the local wildlife, while trying to enjoy a day at the seaside.

We have an update on Martins Cancer and his new challenge with weight loss and an update on the findings of his recent Diabetes examination, and new drugs suggested.

The UK is going through a bit of a heatwave at the moment so Patrick looks at how one can protect oneself from the heat, heat exhaustion and sunburn.

During heat exhaustion, your body temperature rises above normal. Heat exhaustion is less serious than other heat-related illnesses, like heat stroke. But it can progress to heat stroke. Some symptoms of heat exhaustion include nausea, dizziness, muscle cramps, and sweating more than normal.

Martin investigates the price of Travel Insurance for Cancer patients while Patrick relives his experience this year with his trip to the USA and living with Heart Disease.

Martin's Joke of the week pop's again, we'll leave you to judge that one.

Next weeks guest is a young Cancer fighter and Ex-international Rugby player.  Harvey "Harv" Burnett is a Scotland international professional rugby league and rugby union footballer who plays as a wing, centre or second-row for the Dewsbury Rams in the Betfred Championship. He is also a Scotland international.

Already into Episode 3 of Season 2.

We are pleased today to have our Guest Norman Hume, martin and Patrick have Known and worked with Norman for 30 years, Martin's childhood Dentists assistant was Norman's wife Anne.

Norman has finally (after the second attempt) agreed to come onto the podcast and tell us about his very rare illness diagnosed as a young boy and the complaints he suffers with today.

Norm has a rare illness called Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease

Norman also has some additional illnesses which include Bronchiectasis, Prostate Cancer and Heart failure.

Martin and Patrick meet Norman at the local hostelry and have a very comfortable and informal chat where Norman speaks honestly and openly about his illness, the diagnosis and living with the diseases.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is a group of inherited conditions that damage the peripheral nerves, which are located outside of the brain and spinal cord. It's also known as hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy (HMSN) or peroneal muscular atrophy (PMA). CMT is the most common inherited neurological disorder, affecting about one in 2,500 people.

Bronchiectasis is a long-term condition where the airways of the lungs become widened, leading to a build-up of excess mucus that can make the lungs more vulnerable to infection.

Prostate cancer is a disease that occurs when malignant cells form in the prostate gland, a walnut-sized organ that's part of the male reproductive system. It's the most common cancer in men in the UK, and some trans women and non-binary people (who were born male) can also develop it.

Heart failure is a condition where your heart can’t pump blood around your body as well as it should. It doesn’t mean your heart has stopped working but you may need support to help it work better.

Episode 2 of Season 2 and the boys are already hot on the trail of celebrities.

This week Martin and Patrick are overwhelmed to be interviewing one of this Countries (UK) Mega-Star's Mr Jimmy Tarbuck OBE (Tarby).

Jimmy's first television show was "It's Tarbuck " on ITV in 1964, though he had been introduced on Sunday Night at the London Palladium in October 1963 by Sir Bruce Forsyth. He then replaced Forsyth as the last original host of the show from 1965 until it was axed in 1967. He has also hosted numerous quiz shows, including Winner takes all, Full Swing and Tarby's Fame game. In the early 1970s he hosted a variety show called Tarbuck's Luck on the BBC.

In the 1980s, he hosted similar Sunday night variety shows, Live from Her Majesty's, Live from the Piccadilly and finally Live from the Palladium.

He appeared on the fourth series of BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing in but was forced to pull out due to high blood pressure, and needed surgery to fit 3 stents in his heart. In 2008, he returned to a variety format on television screens when he co-hosted, alongside Spice Girl's Emma Bunton an edition of ITV's variety show For One Night Only. He appeared on Piers Morgans Life Stories on 25 May 2012, while on 3 December that year he was invited to celebrate 100 years of the Royal Veriety Performance along with Bruce Forsyth, Ronnie Corbet and Des O'connor. 

In February 2020, Jimmy revealed that, the day after his 80th birthday, he had been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.

In 2022 Jimmy then 81-years-old was back in hospital having a cancerous mole removed from his back.

Series / Season II

Well we can hardly believe it, we are kicking off Season 2 (Series 2) with a bang.

Martin and Patrick get together for a chat and a discussion all around;

A very interesting discussion (Both serious and humorous) around the part Mediums and Psychics can play after someone has lost someone close.

Afterlife is there such a thing? reincarnation does it really exist?

There are so many sceptics (Patrick is one) but is he right to laugh it off when so many take these subjects so seriously including Martin who has had his own eerie happenings.

Mediumship is the pseudoscientific practice of allegedly mediating communication between familiar spirits or spirits of the dead and living human beings. Practitioners are known as "mediums" or "spirit mediums". There are many types of mediumship or spirit channelling, including séance tables, trance, and ouija.

Psychic is a  person who has strange mental powers and abilities (such as the ability to predict the future, to know what other people are thinking, or to receive messages from people who have passed) : a person who has psychic powers.

Afterlife, continued existence in some form after physiological death. The belief that some aspect of an individual survives after death, usually, the individual's soul is common to the great majority of the world's religions what do you think?

Reincarnation is the religious or philosophical belief that the soul or spirit, after biological death, begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life's actions and beliefs.

Ghosts, soul or spectre of a dead person, usually believed to inhabit the netherworld and to be capable of returning in some form to the world of the living.

OUIJA, used for a board that has the alphabet and other signs on it and that some people believe can be used to communicate with the spirits of dead people.

This is the Final episode in this series (Series 1), and yes we have completed 42 episodes since our very first back in September 2023.

We finish on a real high as Martin tells us all about his recent Cancer tests (Martin has Stage 4 Lung Cancer), including the 4 weekly MRI scan recently completed.

It was nearly 12 Months that Martin laid in Hospital with things looking very beak.

Looking back we revisit Martins Highs and lows from the point of diagnosis to his update and results this week.

It really has been a rollercoaster of a ride, not only did he battle Cancer but on top of it all Sepsis, Pneumonia a chest infection and it was at this point martin really could not see much ahead.

During a visit by Patrick in early August 2023, the idea of a Podcast was first discussed and here we are today at the end of the first series.

We couldn't possibly finish the series without one of Martin's Jokes of the week, how it ends well know one knows but things can only get better.

Thanks for sticking with us and we hope you will join us for Series II which all  kicks off next week.

Today is Episode 41

Yes we cannot believe it ourselves 40 episodes completed,  today we look back on some of the popular episodes that stand out for Martin and Patrick.

Episode 40,  wow where has this time gone.

Today the boy's go down the local boozer to meet a local man this week to give us an insight into the of physio.

Physiotherapy helps to restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. It can also help to reduce your risk of injury or illness in the future. It takes a holistic approach that involves the patient directly in their own care.

Physiotherapy is treatment to restore, maintain, and make the most of a patient's mobility, function, and well-being. Physiotherapy helps through physical rehabilitation, injury prevention, and health and fitness. Physiotherapists get you involved in your own recovery.

Local professional Physiotherapist Mr Tony Brightwell joins us as our guest this week and tells us about his career as a Professional Sports Injuries Physiotherapist working for Professional Sports clubs up and down the Country and even his trip abroard with the British Womens Football Team.

Tony, tells us about his training, his treatments, stories and thought process to Physio after medical procedures and hospital operations.

This is an interesting look into the world of Physiotherapy and why it should be taken very seriously in the recovery process of so many injuries including Stroke rehabilitation.

This week we have a real treat as the boys travel down and into Kent.

Our special guest today has had 3 number-one hit singles, appeared in the Eurovision contest twice coming second, and then First in 1981 with "Making Your Mind Up".

Our very special guest this week is Cheryl Baker of the 80's Pop Group "Bucks Fizz"

This is a wonderful interview staged in Cheryl's back garden during one of the sunny days recently and we are also joined by Cheryl's lovely dog Cuba.

Cheryl does not hold back, she openly tells us her story from the very beginning from the moment she sang at the Church Hall to winning Europe's most prestigious song contest.

Cherly tells us about the terrible Bus accident during a Bucks Fizz Tour, where she woke up and found herself on the road having been thrown through the front windscreen of the brand new tour bus.

We delve deeper into the struggle Cheryl had falling pregnant and how ground-breaking IVF treatment gave her two beautiful children and how they have gone on to be successful in Music, stage, and particularly the Edingurough Festival most recently.

Finally touching on her time presenting on mainstream television for several years, Cheryl tells us what she would like to do now.

Cancer Research "Race For Life 2024"

The boy's come live from Cancer Research Race for Life 2024 in Bury St Edmunds England.

Patrick is running on behalf of Martin in the 5K race for Cancer Research UK's annual fundraising event.

While Patrick slogs his way around the circuit, Martin will be making his way around the event speaking to different people supporting and participating this year.

This is a first for the boys, an outside broadcast using their new Nomono equipment in the car on the way to BBC Radio Essex,

We call this Episode "Cardiac Karaoke" after the famous James Corden Series of carpool karaoke with his special guests. 

Patrick & Martin have no special guests, however, they are in the car and one has cardiac issues so we couldn't resist the links.

It is a light-hearted episode this week where the boys chat about all sorts of things and some of the topics include their experience with their stays in the hospital, changing brands of regular medication, end-of-life and assisted dying (Cheerful).
