In Star Wars Return of the Jedi...Palpatine was ruling the Galaxy through the Galactic Empire. We all know this. He was all powerful. We know this, too. Why couldn't he see Vader's betrayal? Why didn't he know Anakin Skywalker would eventually bring balance to the force (from the Jedi's POV)? Sidious was extremely powerful, but there's a reason he couldn't see Anakin Skywalker's turn...If he did...I don't believe he would have spent all those years recruiting him in The Revenge of the Sith. He never saw Darth Maul's death, nor did he see the Death Star's destruction at Luke Skywalker's hand.
