Joel and Naomi dug into Marry Me, the Owen Wilson and Jennifer Lopez "rom-com" that dropped in February. Sure, they mostly spend the episode nitpicking the horrible concept and weird plot points like a lazy Youtube channel, but they also get into an interesting discussion about why a lot of rom-com plotting sucks, and some ways a clever writer might be able to write a kickass script and  revitalize the genre.

Lauren is back to chat with Joel and Naomi about stuff that's been in the news, including that weird stuff with the US stealing from the Aghani Central Bank, Rasmussen's horrible survey on trans issues, JK Rowling and Joe Rogan bullying people with their platforms, Free Nichelle,  the awful Pam and Tommy show, and Valentines Day facts. There was unfortunately not enough time to get into the wonders of crypto dating surveys, but maybe that will make it into its own episode. 

Current Affairs has an interesting piece on trans individuals in sports that pushes back against many misconceptions/oversimplifications. Please keep in mind that almost no one is arguing against trans individuals in sports in good faith; there are deeper longterm agendas at play, as evidenced the recent Texas law classifying transgender youth support as child abuse.

 And we're back to finish up "The Gift of Fear," as well as comment at length about the craziest plot twists of that leaked "Batman" movie.  Upon reflection, while it was a bold choice to have  this set in Twilight universe, we think it was a little chaotic for Robert Pattinson to play both Edward Cullens and Bruce Wayne  in the same film. That said, maybe this means such classic villains as "Hemo Goblin" can make an appearance in future DCU projects now.

Naomi and Joel discuss useful characteristics for identifying people (with like fifty caveats),  potential markers of violence in individuals,  the elements that influence making effective predictions about people's behaviors, workplace violence, and leaving abusive relationships.  On the whole we keep the tone light-hearted, but maybe keep a Squishmellow or tub of Ben&Jerrys nearby just in case. 

Fun fact, this is the first episode Naomi edited, so you're morally obligated to listen to it if you're her friend.

We're getting close to that special time of year, and rather than posting this day-of, we thought we'd give you all a week to internalize some lessons on Valentines Day and use them when enticing your beau next week. Listen to us bicker about how to best show your love to your SO (or friends and family in your life), the problem with single-day occurrences,  bad gift ideas, and which holidays (besides the day in question) are the sexiest.  Joel was deeply committed to the idea that Oktoberfest is sexier than July 4th; we'll let you decide.
