We think that we’d notice if there was physical violence in a relationship and say something don’t we? In the final episodes of Season 2 of Rule of Thumb we learn that there is lot about the physical abuse that we might not see. Most people have long understood that physical violence is never ok, and have perhaps thought family violence was only about physical abuse. Yet, many people still won’t notice the signs or know what to do to check in with someone who may be experiencing physical abuse or call out this behaviour. In this episode we hear women, their lawyers and counsellors describe the physical abuse experienced by women. This episode is tough going, but in listening we get a much better understanding of what we can all do to take effective bystander action on family violence.
