We have evolved to find in-group kindness enjoyable.  It is more of a taboo to acknowledge that we have also evolved to enjoy unkindness to the out-group - the other.  In recent history we've come a long way in transcending this but it remains a challenge for the new Unividual human of the future.

Suffering wasn't created by a perverse creator God. It has evolved on the biological level of reality to show us that something is wrong and that has evolved into psychological suffering. The more we can understand the causes of suffering the more we can overcome it, without succumbing to the common spiritual solution of detached withdrawal.
