With three dozen films in total, directors from thirty countries on six continents are participating.  The first program, christened “Heartstrings,” screens at 2:30 pm and 7:00 pm. Evenly split between live-action and animation, it explores themes of transcending society’s limited expectations, enduring loss of loved ones, and ultimately finding one’s way in the world.  The second program, called “Headtrip,” screens at 4:30 pm and 9:00 pm. Containing mostly animation, it features mundane settings that spiral out of control, malicious plots that inevitably backfire, and worlds within worlds where nothing is as it seems. The competitive international film event includes audience voting for both programs, and DJ Madame B will be mixing soundscapes between and after screenings, with AS220’s FOO(D) next door open for a dinner break and drinks between screening sets. ABOUT THE AVENUE GARDENS: The Avenue Gardens are perennial gardens planted with native & pollinator-friendly species. Each garden contains a permanent concrete sculpture pad that displays a rotating series of works by local, national, and international artists. In essence, each garden functions as a mini-sculpture park, bringing a burst of nature, color, and creativity to an otherwise hardscaped urban environment.
