When President Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi last Saturday to discuss Iran’s nuclear ambitions, no one expected it to lead to further negotiations on Saturday.  This has raised hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough in the Middle East—but trust is scarce and Iran’s motives remain unclear. As we reflect this Good Friday on the Messiah many rejected for not meeting their expectations, we’re reminded how often we, too, reshape God to fit our desires. True peace only comes when we surrender control and follow the true God.
