Listen Later

Sips of the Week
Every year The Wine Spectator Magazine releases their Top 100 wines of the year…you might think this list is made up entirely of high end selections from the world’s most famous wineries but think again! We’ll taste 2 of the year’s top wines and talk to Bruce Sanderson, Senior Editor from the Wine Spectator to find out how these wines are chosen! Bruce is Senior Editor and Tasting Director, New York Tasting Beat that includes Burgundy, Germany and Italy. He joined Wine Spectator in 1993, after working for the previous five years as a wine steward and in retail wine sales. As Tasting Director, he oversees Wine Spectator’s tasting operations in New York, Napa and Europe. Full, mellow and velvety wine; with a perfect blend of flavours such as plum, undergrowth and hints of leather and liquorice, deep ruby red in colour with violet reflections. Ideal with rich dishes, especially white and red meats, game and ripe cheeses. Serving temperature: 18°C #2 Mollydooker Carnival of Love Shiraz, Winery Tasting Notes: For my first vintage at Mollydooker, I was amazed at the colour of the Shiraz grapes, coming from the Gateway vineyards. The depth and intensity of colour in the juice was amazing and I could see why this fruit is used in the Carnival of Love. You will be blown away by the depth and complexity of this wine. It is a big wine yet remains elegant. There are layers of rich cherry and blackberry fruits, creamy vanilla notes, chocolate and even some pepper and spice. It has great intensity and a silkiness that lingers over the palate.
