Eden Rift, the oldest continually producing vineyard in California, is conveniently situated a mere 20 miles away from the breathtaking Monterey Bay. This historic 120-acre estate, planted by Theophile Vache in 1849, proudly rests on the San Andreas Faultline and forms an integral part of the esteemed Cienega Valley AVA.
Nestled just two miles from the renowned Pinot Noir producer Calera, whose visionary founder Josh Jensen was drawn to the limestone and dolomite-rich soils, Eden Rift has a rich viticultural heritage. In fact, as early as 1860, pioneering vintners recognized the potential of this land and procured some of the first Pinot Noir plantings in California.
However, the focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay waned after the era of prohibition, until the estate was acquired by Christian Pillsbury in 2016. With a keen eye for potential and a passion for excellence, Christian assembled a team of young industry professionals, led by the talented winemaker Cory Waller, to revive the legacy of Eden Rift. Their mission? To once again craft some of California's most vibrant and dynamic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
What sets Eden Rift apart is not only its historical significance but also its unique topography. The estate's extreme terraces and diverse terroir, all within a single contiguous valley, make it an exhilarating and unparalleled project in California's viticultural landscape.
With its rich history, exceptional team, and extraordinary vineyard, Eden Rift stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of winemaking. It is a place where tradition meets innovation, resulting in wines that captivate the senses and leave a lasting impression.
