Wining About Herstory

As the veil between life and death (and what makes you a bad person) thins, the ladies are bringing you tales of spookey bitches that you probably haven't heard of and may not want to. Emily shares the local legend of Mary Jane Terwillegar, a witch who led her coven in terrorizing a small Minnesota town until the townsfolk took matters into their own hands. But her gruesome execution wasn't the end of Mary Jane's story, if it was part of her story at all. Grab your favorite brew and be a garden variety bitch, because we're wining about herstory! What does a well educated, multilingual, middle-aged Victorian woman do for fun? Climb mountains, of course! Annie Smith Peck discovered mountain climbing later in life (by Victorian standards) but that didn't stop her from summiting some of the most absurd peaks in the world, all while documenting the routes, geography, and the people who lived there. Don't let anyone gatekeep geography watch out for that red sun at dawn, because we're wining about herstory! Join the Funerary Cult: https://www.patreon.com/winingaboutherstory

Predatory grooming, a presidential sex scandal, and a decades long fight for the truth. Yes, the ladies are traveling back 100 years to talk about when all of these things were happening (and never again). Nan Britton was just a teenager when she became involved with the very married, very horny 29th president Warren G. Harding. But after his sudden death, she was left broke, homeless, and a single mother to their secret child. All she had was the truth- but would anyone believe her? What would you do if the sport you loved phohibited you from competing? Masquerade as a man? Go to the sport's country of origin? Get that sport recognized by the Olympics? Or all of the above?? That's what Rena 'Rusty' Kanokogi did when U.S. Judo competitions deemed women unworthy of competing. What started as an effort to be the tough leader of her street gang led to the inclusion of an incredible sport for men AND women in the Olympics that still persists today! Are you sick of men in power not understanding how female bodies work but still having the audacity to make laws about them? SAME. But in one alleged biblical incidient, that ignorance not only benefited women but saved lives. In ancient Egypt, Shiphra and Puah, a mother-daughter-midwife team, were asked to do the unthinkable- kill all of the male Hebrew babies. That request didn't pass the vibe check (with God) and they used the Pharaoh's ignorance to save lives. Even though their story has limited historical evidence, the same elements that influenced Shiphrah and Puah's lives are still impacting women today. Drink for wolves and weaponise male ignorance, because we're wining about herstory! Join the Funerary Cult: https://www.patreon.com/winingaboutherstory
