  • Podcast #114: Activating HyperGrowth in your Business with Gene Hammett

    Today’s guest is Gene Hammett. Gene has earned over 30 million dollars on his journey to starting multiple million dollar companies. He also recently wrote a book, The Trap of Success, and hosts a podcast, Leader in The Trenches. In addition, he has a weekly column in Inc Magazine.
    Gene found himself without the courage to break from what he had but it wasn’t what he really wanted. He didn’t want to let go of what he had attained and achieved to pursue something bigger and better, that he potentially really wanted. This is what he calls the trap of success.
    In this episode of The Series of Winning Teams Podcast, we discuss being radically transparent in order to grow rapidly, the importance of building trust and why so many people are afraid to be vulnerable and truly transparent.
    In this episode hear more from Gene on these topics:

    * Exploring The Trap of Success
    * What do leaders do to sustain and stall hypergrowth?
    * Difference between fast growth companies and not
    * Getting people engaged
    * Getting employees to take responsibility for big goals
    * Vision as an important aspect for a company
    * Letting go in order to let others rise up
    * Creating a one of a kind brand
    * Challenges in companies trying to create a sense of ownership
    * Being radically transparent for rapid growth
    * Transformational leadership
    * The value of mindset
    * Growth and performance cultures
    * Importance of team and personal goals

    Employees are coming on board to change the world, not to gain a paycheck.
    Sometimes getting buy-in requires relinquishing some control. If you allow hands-on involvement in developing the process, you are allowing more ownership over the goal and process.
    Really understanding your team requires vulnerability, something that many people are afraid of. When you have the courage to be vulnerable with your employees you’re able to figure out who they really are and what is holding them back.
    Transformational leadership is the ability to transform the others’ thinking and the way they see the world. If you are able to transform the thinking of those employees, they will be able to produce at a much higher rate for the company.
    People tend to focus too much on skillset and not enough on mindset.
    Sometimes your skills don’t hold you back, your fear or your mind might be holding you back. What gets in the way is the behavior. If you can change the behavior, which is the mindset, the rest is the easy part. Imagine a world where leaders are evolved and can have a conversation with someone where they can see their mindset is holding them back.
    In this episode, Gene shares his love for the book The One Thing. The question is ‘What is the one thing you can do today that makes everything else easier or not even an issue tomorrow?’ It is really about the one thing.
    Look at your business and your life. What is the lynchpin to your success? As a leader, what if you could understand that one thing for each of your employees?
    Gene has a couple daily rituals he partakes in each day. He wakes up every day in gratitude and gives thanks for life, health, his wife, family, and business. Before he even gets out of bed or checks email...

  • Podcast #113: Your Energy Can Do More Than You Are Asking It To Do! – Part 2

    Today’s guest is a return guest, Art Giser, who was on the show recently. Art is the creator of Energetic NLP. He does clairvoyant and spiritual work. He is a talented healer and intuitive. To learn more about Art’s background, you can check out the previous episode with Art.
    If you haven’t listened to the previous episode, Art currently does clairvoyant work and works with spiritual principals. That hasn’t always been the case. Art’s background is in research. He has always been fascinated by science and logic but also the powers of the unconscious mind and telepathy. In many people’s minds, these two are opposites, yet they aren’t necessarily. Art worked in a research lab for many years. Along the way, he became very aware that there were powers of the unconscious mind that people weren’t tapping into. He spent a number of years feeling stuck and like he just didn’t belong there. It wasn’t the best place for him to bring his talents out into the world.
    Related: Your Energy Can Do More Than You Are Asking It To Do! – Part 1
    He then heard about NLP. NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. He began studying this in depth and it rocked his world.
    He began to understand how people could use this to make a rapid personal change and to transfer talents.
    Today, we will be picking up where we left off in the previous episode with Art Giser. We will jump heavily into energy fields and different energy techniques you need to know.
    In this episode hear more from Art on these topics:

    * Three energy techniques everyone needs to know
    * How people can implement and develop the three energy techniques
    * You don’t necessarily have to believe, just be open to exploring
    * The unconscious mind and the Human energy system
    * Grounding and how to do it
    * Clearing energy
    * Retrieving energy from other people
    * Determining whether a particular energy is yours or someone else’s
    * What you resist persists
    * When you should ground yourself
    * Your miraculous self!

    Art talks extensively about the three energy techniques he thinks everyone needs to know.
    These three techniques are grounding, clearing energy, and retrieving energy from other people.
    It is crucial that you become in tune with your body. Art encourages people to think of grounding as instructing your unconscious mind to do something. It’s not something people didn’t to think as super literally. Our unconscious minds function using a lot of metaphors.
    Imagine energy is coming up from the earth hand filling your body and the earth is gently pulling out any energy they no longer want or need. Any energy that isn’t helping you can leave. We have full access to all our abilities when we are grounded. Learn more about how to clear your energy using metaphors and retrieve your energy from other people; past, present, and future.

  • Podcast #112: Tackling The Future to Be Successful

    Today we will be talking about tackling the future to be successful with Jim Jubelirer. Jim is from North Carolina. He is the Founder of the Results Group. He also goes by the title of The Exponential Advisor.
    His massively transformative purpose is to create an equitable and sustainable world for everyone. His moonshot is to see the transformation to 100% renewable energy worldwide in his lifetime. A very loft but worthwhile goal, I must say!
    Jim is a business coach who works with growth companies and inside corporations. He spent a big part of his career doing management consulting around customer satisfaction and service quality. He helped GE start Six Sigma and ran Royal Caribbean’s guest satisfaction tracking program. He has also always had an interest in learning, growing and leadership development.
    Now, Jim is now an Executive Coach in Duke University’s Leadership Development Programs. He works with companies and also does some executive coaching one on one. Jim’s work is called Exponential Mindset. It’s to help people realize there is a different way. You can adopt a positive mindset and adopt new daily practices.
    One of the basic principals is we are always going to have fear, uncertainty and doubt in our mind. Jim has made it a mini-career to study the habits of successful people. If you look at the secrets of people who have really gone on to experience success, they respect the voice of fear but we want to put it in the back seat of the car and not let it drive. There are practices and affirmations around positive thinking about affirming what you want rather than fearing what you are afraid.
    Meditations is another powerful practice. You need to do something regularly to move your body and get out of your head. Another general practice is to think about your results in the next five years and how they will in part be a function of the five adults you spend the most time with. If you are around negative people, you will take on negative thinking. You also have to know your Why.
    In this episode hear more from Jim on these topics:
    – How Jim has got to where he is today
    – Taking progress for granted
    – The change conundrum
    – The 20/20 problem
    – Progress its self is exponential
    – How Jim helps people prepare for the future
    – Discovering your Why
    – The depth of your frustration is equal to the depth of your desire
    – 6 D’s in the Disruption model
    – Jims daily habits
    – The way you raise your aspirations is to meet your current goals
    One of Jim’s favourite books is called Abundance, by Peter Diamandis. Jim is in a program Peter runs to learn about exponential technologies and their ability to change the world. He also recommends the books Exponential Organizations, Scaling up and The Seven Habits.

  • The Future of Remote Workers

    Today we are going to dive into the future of remote workers with Nathan Hirsch. Nathan is the co-founder CEO of Freeeup.com. Nathan went from being a broke college student to owning two businesses. That’s pretty awesome if I do so myself!
    On this episode, learn how Nathan got where he is today and the great opportunities available with Freeeup.com. FreeeUp connects hundreds of online business owners with reliable and pre-vetted remote workers. More and more companies are looking to hire remote workers and FreeeUp helps you do just that.
    Both of Nathan’s parents were teachers. He always had the mentality growing up that he would get a job and retirement plan and that would be his life. After jumping into the typical 9 to 5 life, he quickly realized he spent most of his time watching the clock and hated his job. It became apparent to him that the CEOs he worked under had more freedom than he did and he wanted that.
    Nathan actually majored in entrepreneurship in college. He claims he was just a wannabe though and didn’t know what he wanted to do. He just wanted to learn and try different things.
    When he was in college, he got sick of textbook store ripping him off. He felt he could do better so he started his own bookstore. He would take people’s books that they sold to him and sell them to online distributors. He dreamed of owning a big Amazon store at that time.
    In this episode hear more from Nathan on these topics:

    * How Nathan go to where he is today
    * What FreeeUp is and does
    * Setting expectations upfront
    * Benefits of remote workers
    * Future for FreeeUp.com

    He continued to try to sell different things. It seemed that everything he tried seemed to fail except for selling used stuff. Then he came across baby products and became really good at selling them. He was running a multimillion-dollar baby company in his twenties.
    He claims he had to hire my first employee before he could legally drink. As he grew the business, he graduated and opened up an office.  He soon realized it would be more profitable to close the office and hire remote workers and he did just that.
    As he was running the business, he realized he was spending more time on HR then spending time on the stuff he enjoyed. He wanted to create a faster way to hire, rather than consulting job boards. This is how FreeeUp came up. FreeeUp has established a good process that makes remote workers available to those hiring quickly.
    FreeeUp works with you to figure out what you need and provide just that. Maybe you have had a bad hiring experience in the past, FreeeUp works with you to avoid a similar experience in the future.
    You simply create a free account, request a worker, answer 10 simple questions and within one business day, you get one to three options. You can hire them or choose to pass. You have the option to provide feedback, if you choose to pass, and then more options are provided to you. All payments are processed through FreeeUp so you don’t have to deal with direct payments.
    You can check out FreeeUp at FreeeUp.com. You can sign up for free. If you mention this podcast, you will receive a $25 credit towards their services.

  • Your Energy Can Do More Than You Are Asking It To Do!

    Today’s guest is Art Giser, who is not only the creator of Energetic NLP but also a gifted healer and intuitive. You won’t be surprised to find out he’s a really interesting guy!
    Art currently does clairvoyant work and works with spiritual principals.
He then heard about NLP. NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. He began studying this in depth and it rocked his world. He began to understand how people could use this to make rapid personal change and to transfer talents.
    Art claims NLP is incredible at creating models of how to train people to have abilities they haven’t had before.
    In this episode dive in depth with Art on these topics:

    * What Energetic NPL is all about
    * Combining NLP with energy work
    * Unpacking the bad wrap that NLP sometimes gets
    * Using NLP in leadership coaching situations
    * Understanding more of what’s going on with another person.
    * Changing the energy of an environment.
    * Research behind energy work
    * Electromagnetic fields

    Art also talks about why this topic can be hard for people to understand. The hard part to grasp is how simple it actually is. Everyone thinks it’s hard so they tend to over think it.
    People release energy from frustrations, emotions, stresses, and desires. If you have ever heard someone say a room feels heavy, that’s because a collection of energy has been released from people. You pick up the energy of other people. Psychologically and energetically, this energy fills the room. We all have these energy feels in and around our bodies.
    Learn more about Art’s work, these topics and how people’s thoughts can also get stuck in your energy field on this episode. It’s definitely one you won’t want to miss!

  • Outsource with Ease and Confidence

    Let me tell you, Barbara Turley, who is the founder and CEO of The Virtual Hub, is one impressive lady! I am not saying that because she hails from my home country, Ireland, but it helps!
    Barbara started her career in investment banking with Deutsche Bank, but investment banking’s loss was the gain of business entrepreneurs. While setting up a new business for women who wanted to create wealth and have an impact, Barbara, in her own words, “accidentally” discovered a niche where her clients were asking her to find Virtual Assistants to help with their busy schedules! Demonstrates Barbara’s true entrepreneurial spirit!
    And so, The Virtual Hub was born!
    So, what will The Virtual Hub do for you? As Barbara explains, it really focuses on those tasks that need to be completed to have the business running smoothly but do not need to be done by those driving the business forward. These include:

    * posting blog posts with the right images and keywords
    * publishing and promoting podcasts
    * daily social media activity on all platforms
    * managing your YouTube channel
    * competitor/market research
    * calendar management
    * and many more.

    So, one of my questions to Barbara was – why should these businesses work with The Virtual Hub when other resources are available?
    Her answers are pretty compelling! Click here to listen.
    They include:

    * all applicants to her company undergo a tough 5-hour exam, and once they pass that, then must complete a 3 – 8-week training program before they are put in front of a potential client. All of this is funded by The Virtual Hub! Impressive indeed!
    * cater to all time zones
    * all VAs are employees and work from The Virtual Hubs own offices where they are supervised and continuously trained.
    * In line with Barbara’s own commitment to make a difference, all VAs get health insurance as part of their remuneration, so their families can benefit too
    * The Virtual Hub is creating real, long-term careers for Barbara’s employees and she is developing the next level leaders.

    Barbara shares in this interview Outsource with Ease and Confidence, the pitfalls for business owners when endeavouring to optimise the relationship with the VA, and these are worth listening to. Click here to listen.
    Also, well worth listening to Barbara talk about her Daily Huddle which she is a strong advocate of.
    For any entrepreneur looking to build their business, I highly recommend listening to Barbara’s interview and checking out The Virtual Hub.
    Barbara’s book choice – well, she chooses two! – are The Zappos Experience and Built to Sell.
    Her daily ritual – which she fits in with being a mother to a toddler –  is a daily cup of coffee by the ocean, which sounds beautiful.
    You can get in touch with Barbara through her site www.thevirtualhub.com
    As a business owner myself, I highly recommend you listen to this podcast.

  • Never Go Wrong by Doing the Right Thing

    That is a belief of today’s guest, William Chivers, President & CEO RUSH Construction in Titusville, Florida. William was voted Business Leader of the Year in 2017 for his region which is quite the achievement.
    William’s story and the story of RUSH Construction is a fascinating one. RUSH itself was founded by Ed Rabel who was born in Cuba but had to move with his family in 1962 due to political changes in Cuba.
    Ed came to Florida when Disney was building Epcot and decided in 1984 to set up RUSH Construction as he did not want to move back north when the work on Epcot finished.
    William was, in 1997, invited to join RUSH and 2 years later became President, which, William says, was a big challenge as Ed’s shoes were indeed big to fill.
    One of the fascinating aspects of RUSH is the transfer to being owner owned to being employee-owned and you really must listen to William talk about that here.
    William talks about how seriously he takes the responsibility of having 35 people relying upon RUSH for their livelihood and this shapes the decisions he makes – where he truly lives up to his mantra of being a “servant leader”.
    This concept of servant leader is fundamental to how William operates as CEO along with his belief that “you can never do wrong by doing the right thing”.
    I highly recommend to everyone to listen to William talk about the benefits of the employee-owned scheme, and one of many he highlights is that it causes people to think differently about the decisions they make. For anyone reflecting upon going down this road, William’s comments are very insightful.
    William’s book recommendations include the Bible, for personal reflection and direction, and for business he recommends Traction by Gino Wickman.
    A daily ritual which William shares, which I think is wonderful, is that he makes a point of checking in personally with each member of staff every morning. That, to me, says a lot about William!

  • Why You Need A Culture of Coaching

    Today’s Guest on the Winning Teams Podcast is Patrick Griffin, one of the founders of Clarke Griffin Associates based in Ireland.  Clarke Griffin Associates specializes in helping organisations to get their people thinking and behaving as more capable, adaptive and effective leaders.
    Patrick has over 25 years’ experiences as a Sales and Commercial Manager having worked for both the Kerry Group and Coca-Cola. His extensive knowledge and practical experience in business situations, especially in leadership, management and people development means he is ideally placed to understand the challenges that both companies and individuals face in today’s changing environment.
    Patrick has a real passion for creating a coaching culture within an organisation. The number one objection from Managers is that they don’t have the time to coach their own team, which is very different to having an executive coach come in for a two hour session, however he really wants to encourage managers to make the time to incorporate internal coaching within their department because the benefits are huge.  Some of the benefits include;
    ·        Greater focus on what matters
    ·        Increase resilience
    ·        Improved relationships
    ·        Invest time in coaching and you’ll save time in the long term
    ·        Improves performance and productivity
    ·        Helps drive change
    ·        Keeps people more motivated and engaged
    So, if the benefits are so profound, why do more managers not do it?  Well, its Patricks’ belief that most people believe that they don’t have time, and he encourages people to not consider it as an add-on to your workload, but instead think of it as something you should incorporate it into your daily routine, adapting a coaching leadership style.
    Another challenge some organisations face is there is not a coaching culture in the company and it can be a challenge to coach managers if they have not been coached by their own leaders, so we talk to senior managers and leaders within the organisation and show them how then can move away from the old mind-set to create a coaching culture.
    Shifting to a coaching culture:

    * Needs to start at the top (managers to adopt leadership management style)
    * Take more time to help others come up with solutions instead of always giving the answer
    * Accountability and benchmarking is important
    * Manage the underperformers effective (intervene early)

    How do Managers go about running a coaching session?  It goes back to using a questioning style in conversations, looking for opportunities, asking why that did not go well, look for the learning opportunities everywhere.  A typical structure we would use is the “instant pay off model”, a model that people can use quickly and easily and is generally used in performance management.
    The “GROW” model is probably the most popular model out there, the starting point is the “Goal”, helping someone clarify exactly what the goal is, then the “Reality” of the situation (what’s going on at the moment), then the “Options”, what are the options available, get the coachee to come up with as many options as possible, and finally “Way forward” what are the next steps, create an action plan from this.
    The “Instant pay off model”, is great on the shop floor and gives people a structure to deal ...

  • An American in Paris – and Japan!

    Today’s Guest on the Winning Teams Podcast is Drew Otoo, VP, General Manager and Country Lead at Pfizer Vaccines, Japan.  I think it fair to say that Drew would be viewed as an entrepreneurial and strategic marketer for vaccines and bio-pharmaceuticals.
    Drew is the classic global corporate executive having started his career in Pfizer in the USA, then taking up a senior role in Pfizer’s Paris office, and in 2017 moved to Japan to take up his current role.
    We talk about how Drew has successfully managed his career across those three continents and the lessons he can share with others who wish to take the same route.
    In this interview we talk about;

    * What drove him to move to France
    * Why he left the USA after pursuing the American Dream
    * What he learned from moving from the USA to France, and then from France to Japan
    * The importance of looking at your career as a brand and how you can stand out from the crowd and think of your career as your own personal brand.

    To be competitive you have to take yourself out of your comfort zone, so Drew deliberately caused disruption to his life to pursue opportunities in developed countries.   He arrived in France in November 2014 with his family in tow to an unfamiliar business culture where the pace was much slower and decision making took a lot longer than he was used to in the USA.
    He goes on to talk about how work life balance in France is very different and it took a while to get accustomed to the cultures and environment.  The USA is a very market centric, fast paced moving economy, whereas France is more of a socialist perspective where board decisions take longer to make, changes to personnel and initiatives are way slower than in the USA.  The general environment that he found myself is was structurally very different.
    In the USA there would be an element of top down decision making, whereas in France there was less of a top down command structure and a more laid back attitude.  To get results from people it’s important to take the time to learn and understand about the corporate culture, why and how things are done and to read about the reasons people are behaving in this way.
    He went on to discuss from a leadership perspective, what it was like trying to fit in with this culture and how he had to first get people to learn about him so he in turn could learn about them.  Some of his team leaders had never had coaching or career development focussed on them, and so by implementing coaching they were able to develop skills and attributes as well as an understanding of themselves and where they wanted to be in their lives.  He had to get very creative when bringing in external partners and consultants to help bridge the gap.  Working with a US company in a European culture, so  expectations on both sides have to be managed accordingly.
    Having made the decision to move to Japan, Drew faced more cultural challenges.  Japan is a very self-contained country and society, so coming in as an international businessman you have to find a way to fit in and the way you do that is by watching, learning and understanding the history and culture.
    He discusses the unique Japanese business culture and norms and how decision making in Japan involves ...
