Today’s guest is Carrie Hartunian Smith, co-founder of Smart Marketing Consulting, a marketing company that takes the ‘classic tried and true’ business practices and incorporates 21st century on-line (and offline) proven techniques to create a thriving scalable, repeatable and profitable business, whether you have a product or service (or both in some cases).
Carrie’s passion was in retail and she wanted to set-up her own store. She would wake up to the thought of how she could compete and market her business. That prompted her to do a lot of research about traditional and modern marketing techniques with what works today. Instead of opening her online store, she ended up being sought after by businesses and being on different marketing and media panels, talking to people on how to build their business.
Carrie puts a strong  emphasis on the importance of identifying where your audiences are in terms of Social Media marketing, and leverage on it. Being on every platform is not necessary; it’s a matter of focus.
There are many other marketing principles that Carrie shares in this interview that you should listen to.
Carrie’s book recommendation is 80/20 Principle by Richard Koch, a simple book yet very deep and it’s one of the books where she would get her concepts.
Carrie’s daily ritual is to spend some quiet time upon waking up to reflect on her plans for the day.

  • Email Marketing Really Does Work, says Dan

My guest today is Doberman Dan (Yes, that is another story!) a successful response entrepreneur and copywriter from Ohio, U.S.A who is a living proof that email marketing is alive and well – and very profitable!
Back in the mid 90's, Dan, in spite of having a full-time job as a police officer, had reached a point where he considered himself a total failure as an entrepreneur, which he always secretly wanted.
No matter what business he got himself into it failed miserably, which saw his money dwindle.
His failure strangely was the catalyst for him to  discover direct marketer, Dan Kennedy, who gave him the opportunity to learn about his products and newsletter. He was the very person who inspired him to get into the info marketing mail order business and the same person who introduced him to the The Gary Halbert Letter. He started hunting Gary Halbert down, subscribed to his newsletter which led him to realize that they both had a lot in common.
He decided to do whatever it took to get Halbert's attention and become his protégé. It did not take him long to finally work side by side with Gary and even became roommates for three months in Costa Rica.
In the interview, Dan shares different approaches to building relationship with your ideal avatar through email marketing. He also highlights the following:

    * The importance of relationship building over the long term
    * Being able to identify your ideal prospects needs and provide solutions
    * The need to advertise
    * And more.

Dan's  favorite book is Essentialism by Greg McKeown, which he claims to have made a huge impact in his life this year.
His daily rituals include an hour of music in the morning and focusing on writing between 8am and 11am.
You can visit Dan's website to know more about what he does. You can also download a free copy of his "neurohormonal copywriting" secrets. Go to http://www.dobermandan.com.

  • Turning Your Niche Into a $90,000 per month Business

My guest today is Caitlin Pyle, owner of Proofread Anywhere and The Work Anywhere Life both of which have been featured on Fortune Magazine, Fast Company, Business Insider and interestingly on Dr. Oz.
For five years, Caitlin was into proofreading transcripts while working in a court reporting office for two of those years where she earned the title "Eagle Eyes".
In 2012, Caitlin decided to develop an eBook and sell it online – purely as a small, little earner on the side.
Soon her eBook and subsequent course for proofreading transcripts became her main source of income and a niche that brought her so much sense of fulfillment and success.  Caitlin then just added additional resources to the course to develop increased added value.
This business is now generating a very fine $70,000 - $90,000 per month – a fantastic achievement.
Some of her key learnings are:

    * Not to be afraid to increase the price – Caitlin doubled her price and still grew!
    * Developing relationships with other bloggers – tough and slow, but so worthwhile
    * The power of affiliate marketing, where you sell to other people’s lists, and you can sell their products to your list
    * The power of Pinterest – they get a staggering 37% of their traffic from this source
    * Having a good sales funnel.

On a personal note, Caitlin talks about how the Daily Greatness Journal has helped herself set goals and create her own reality.

  • Leveraging Your Mentors to Build a Business

Today's episode is a conversation with Jonathan Rivera, who started as an Electrician Apprentice.
It was only after 9 years when he felt he had had enough and gave up his blue collar job, taking a risk to pursue his dreams.
Jonathan then moved into real estate and before he knew it, he was making more in a month  than he made in his last 2 years as an electrician.
Things were going very well until he went bust at 27. Jonathan learned that he was unprepared for business, but going bust was a fantastic lesson and he has rebuilt the business.
His learning was that he had not built a business but had created another job. Now he has a business that he truly works only 4 hours per week – the ultimate dream!
Interestingly, this learning came from listening to the experts – through books, podcasts and seminars.
Jonathan is now the “strategist” not the “technician”. Achieving the 4 hour work week took him 10 years, so it was not overnight!
The key is to build the right systems and then automate once you have the system producing the output you need. Jonathan really believes that you need to build the system, so you understand all the moving parts. Then and only then can you hand over to someone else.
Podcasts then entered Jonathan’s life, and after trial and error, he has not only created a podcast that has high listeners but also got to monetize it – creating another income stream.
With the help of his mentors, he was able to rebuild his business and his life. He says that without them, his mentors, he would be nowhere.
Now, Jonathan Rivera is the Executive Producer of The Podcast Factory, where he is impacting thousands of lives with the support of his mentors.
Listen to Jonathan on how to build your online business – it is refreshingly simple, but you need to know the right steps.
He is a voracious book reader and recommends The E-Myth by Michael Gerber.
You can visit http://thepodcastfactory.com to learn more about Jonathan and connect with him.

  • Don’t Do Just Enough to Fail, Says Joshua Latimer

Joshua Latimer is the founder of www.AutomateGrowSell.com and he certainly knows how not to fail!
Like many great entrepreneurs, where he set out to be is not where he is right now! But he determined that.
Joshua started out his career as a banker with JP Morgan in Michigan but soon realised he did not fit into the role of an employee, and so decided to take a completely different route.
Taking a complete right turn he set up a cleaning business as he believed it ticked the boxes of being a niche, scalable and sellable – three critically important elements for success!
Joshua built that business from zero to $150,000 per month, and then sold that business in 2015.
He then moved his family from the chilly climate of Michigan to the much warmer Costa Rica from where he runs his 2 businesses now.
The first is www.automategrowsell.com where he coaches other business owners to build a scalable, valuable business.
To build that sort of business Joshua believes that you have to do the following:

    * Be really clear about your why
    * Define in great detail all the activities that must be done to build and run that business
    * Delegate as many of those task to others and/or automate them
    * Take on the role of coach to others
    * Spend your time on high level activities that will drive your business on

Joshua is passionate about the fact that systems are at the base of all successful businesses and too many entrepreneurs do not pay enough attention to that.
“Just doing enough”, as Joshua says is what many entrepreneurs do, and that gives them no margin for unexpected bumps on the road. That and not managing cashflow properly is what causes so many issues.
Joshua has also developed an app which I think is brilliant and can be found at www.sendjim.com. This app will help you stay in touch with your clients and develop new business opportunities with them. The novelty factor here is that the app will send material the old way – through the post! And this is becoming more effective due to it’s rarity factor. This product is currently only available in USA but will be coming to other markets soon.
You can find out more about Joshua and his businesses at www.automategrowsell.com and www.sendjim.com.

  • Disabled Workers Are Not Broken, says Debra Ruh

Debra Ruh is the Founder of Ruh Global Communications which is the platform for Debra to get her message as a Global Disability Inclusion Strategist out to the world.
The catalyst for Debra’s work as an ambassador for the disabled was the birth of her daughter, Sara, with Down Syndrome.
Debra was outraged when she was told that perhaps the pinnacle of expectations for Sara was to push around supermarket trolleys! She was outraged and determined there and then to do something about it.
The consequence of that outrage was the foundation of Tec Access where 80% of the team were technologists with disabilities.
Interestingly, when asked, Debra said that the main challenges in the business had nothing to do with dealing with the disabilities of her staff! The issues were the usual business challenges – cash flow, achieving targets, having the right processes etc.
Eventually Debra sold Tec Access and founded Ruh Global Communications to continue to advocate for the disabled in the workplace – something she is well-positioned to do as she is now regarded by Klout as among the Top 10 influencers online.
Now, that gives her some platform to shout from.
Listen to Debra’s talk passionately about being that advocate for the disabled.
Debra’s book choice is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. You can find out more about Debra at ruhglobal.com and on various social media.
