**Update 11.11.17: brought the duel organ back a bit in the mix. Finally got the drums to blend better. fleshed out the Morphine lead, sounds more like a 70's era Prophet synth now...
new mix name/version is: WMvsKansas_SongForAmerica_11_1_F2_5
**Update 11.3.17: cleaned up the drums a bit and added a "sweet spot" 303 line that I think really adds to the original song and fits the overall mood and style--note that this is the first real Wintermut3 add.. so far ;) - mix number is 11b, sub mix name is "on flight of angels" (mostly to do with doubling up the organs and the type - cathedral, church (b3) and the ethereal like nature of the break down at around 6:27
was: Wintermut3 vs Kansas mix 11b as sub mix name
Background:
Of my many inspirations from the 70s was the band Kansas and one of my most favorite songs of theirs was this one. "Song for America" really showed me what rock could be and really what music could be. My recent : "Future Worlds" very much pulled on this track in feel and even a bit in design. I have wanted to present this song for quite sometime, but wanted to wait until I had all the elements I needed and this is the first pass release after 7 previous mixes I am very happy with how Modo Bass really brings this together (a large reason I held off doing this track for so long was because I wanted a more "real" bass) I need to address the drums a bit as the midi source I pulled them from didn't have velocity and FPC does such a better job if the velocity can be varied.
**Note** part of the reason I am doing this is to hopefully bring a new group/generation of listeners to discover Kansas -- a great and sadly often misunderstood Progressive Rock/Southern Rock band. Another part is to pay homage to a band and a song I greatly respect (especially from a sound engineering aspect as this is a beast to get mixed right, mostly due to the amount and variety of voices... :) )--in a case like this, phasing is your friend :)
