As we're are all welcoming the new year,  new you, new beginnings, new habits, even a new normal. In the spirit of newness, I wanted us to celebrate our newness in Christ.

2 Corinthians 5: 17 states: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Paul tells us that all believers have died with Christ and no longer live for themselves. Meaning we no longer focus on worldly things but spiritual. We now  “walk in newness of life” So what's new?

We also find that courage is the opposite of fear. When God commands us to fear not, to be of good cheer, and to have courage, He is commanding against fear.

Our topic has nothing to do with the popular hit by Pharell, Happy. Even though I have it as my ringtone. It has everything to do with scripture Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”

This very familiar passage is often misused from its original contextual meaning. People have used this verse to emphasize the importance of vision; vision in leadership, vision in business, etc. Even from pulpits, it’s used to support having a vision for the church and dreaming big dreams for ourselves. Although it’s great to have a “vision” in life, big dreams, that’s not what this scripture is referring to.

In today's episode, discover what Prov. 29:18 is referring to.

And after Moses’ death, it’s now up to Joshua to lead them into the promised land. This was a huge undertaking because not only did he have to claim the land from its current inhabitants, squatters, he had to fight and lead battles, and give spiritual leadership to a large group of people.

As you could imagine, he was feeling the overwhelming weight of the task before him, the Lord offered words of encouragement, to “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
