Death of Self – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1951 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Madame Guyon, and it is, "All the graces of a Christian spring from the death of self."
    Death of Self
The core premise of our Christian faith is that Jesus Christ was willing to become our atoning sacrifice and die on the cross so that we would be acceptable to be in God’s presence. As Christ-followers, we are to have the same attitude. Therefore, we must die to ourselves to take on the same attitude that Jesus had and show Jesus Christ to everyone we come in contact with.
Furthermore, we must be willing to love others in such a manner that we are eager to figuratively take up the cross of Christ and sacrifice ourselves for the goodwill of others. In this manner, we will display the grace that has been poured out on us and become willing to pour the same grace on others. Others will see our love and mercy for them when we do this.
    Luke 9:23-27
Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?  If anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in his glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels. I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Kingdom of God.”

Seeds of Today – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1950 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is an Indian Proverb, and it is, “All the flowers of all the tomorrows are in the seeds of today.”
    Seeds of Today
No crops that provide nourishment; none of the beautiful flowers we enjoy looking at and smelling suddenly appear out of thin air. Instead, they all start with a seed that when germinated will grow into a plant and provide beautiful flowers, green vegetables, delicious fruits, and savory nuts. Although contained within those end products are contain dozens of additional seeds to propagate themselves for years to come. Through this, the cycle of life continues for generations.
As imagers of our creator, we also contain within us seeds, that when germinated, will propagate throughout all eternity. In each of these examples, we often fail to understand that the seed in its original form must die to bring new life, which leads to each new generation. Only humans will continue through all eternity through physical propagation and spiritual children as we assist others in coming into the kingdom of God. Let us be the seeds of tomorrow in all that we do.
    John 12:23-25
Jesus replied, “Now the time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives. Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1949 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Seth Godin, and it is, “All the creativity in the world won’t help if you’re unwilling to have lousy, lame, even bad ideas.”
    Bad Ideas
Voltaire is credited with the saying, “Perfect is the Enemy of Good,” and this is so true. However, we also know that while we will never be perfect, we can always be making progress. Unless you are willing to fail at times, maybe lots of times, you will never achieve success.
Not all of our ideas will be great. Most of them will be lousy, lame, and even bad, but don’t let that stop you from coming up with more ideas. Let those ideas that are not so great foster more creativity to spur on great ideas. The ratio of bad ideas to great ideas will be very high, but you can succeed with only a tiny segment of ideas worth pursuing.
So keep moving forward and let the creativity flow from you while there are opportunities. As the farmers say, “You got to make hay while the sun shines.”
    John 9:4-5
We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the world.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1948 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from James R. Lowell, and it is, "All the beautiful sentiments in the world weigh less than a single lovely action."
    Lovely Action
We have all heard, “It’s the thought that counts.” While it is good to have thought of some kind or nice action we should do for someone else, it will never take the place of actually doing something friendly, kind, or encouraging for someone else. Let us not fool ourselves into thinking that just praying for someone or thinking of someone is enough when we have the capacity and ability to assist someone.
Yes, praying for others is commanded and encouraged in the Bible, and we should always be in prayer for our family, friends, and even enemies. We should be willing to do good as often as we have an opportunity, especially fellow Christ-followers. Taking action is always better than just our thoughts and prayers.
    Galatians 6:10
Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.

Today’s quote is from Walt Disney, and it is, “All the adversity I’ve had in my life, has strengthened me. You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.”
    Adversity Strengthens
I don’t believe I know anyone who actively seeks out adversity, nor do we like it when it hits us personally. But hardship in nearly every situation positively impacts our lives; if we are willing to learn the lessons, it teaches us. If history is also our teacher, we can look back at successful people of all ages and in all areas of success, and we will discover that those who succeed the greatest also had some of the greatest struggles. So don’t stress when life is difficult. Instead, learn the lessons that are taught, and continue forward. Yes, a kick in the teeth or a swift kick in the backside may indeed be the best thing in the world for you. The Bible refers to this as the refining fire that burns off the dross so that we will be as pure gold.
    Zechariah 13:9
I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure. I will refine them like silver and purify them like gold. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, "These are my people," and they will say, "The Lord is our God."

Reason for Hope – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1946 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Alexander Solzhenitsyn, and it is, "All that the downtrodden can do is go on hoping. After every disappointment, they must find fresh reason for hope."
    Reason for Hope
Everyone experiences disappointments in life. Sometimes we are oppressed by others and looked down upon. These situations are not pleasant and can have us feeling downtrodden. As difficult as these situations are, no matter how great the disappointment, it is up to each of us to make a choice.
We can choose to wallow in the filth and grime of oppression, or we can choose to find a fresh reason for hope. When we choose hope, our mindset changes, and we can pursue avenues that will allow us to return to solid ground. As a Christ-follower, hope, and faith are like twin siblings that support and encourage each other. Never let your hope or faith be extinguished.
    Hebrews 11:1-3
Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1945 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from C.S. Lewis, and it is, "All that is not eternal is eternally out of date."
    All That Is Eternal
As finite beings, getting our minds around the concept of eternity is difficult, but that doesn’t make it any less true. We are created as God’s imagers, so we have a definitive starting point but no expiration date. We will live eternally either abiding with God if we choose to accept Him or separated from God if we reject Him. That is why our everyday lives must impact people for eternity.
While we cannot take our riches or material resources with us when we die, we can impact all of eternity by assisting those seeking to become citizens of God’s kingdom. What we say to others, how we treat others, and how we conduct our daily lives is the strongest motivating factor in people seeing that we are ambassadors for Christ because we accepted His work on the cross. Those we impact for eternity can be our children, grandchildren, other family members, and those we work with or socialize with.
We have no clue how wonderful eternity will be, but we know it will be awesome. So impact eternity today. Otherwise, you will be out of date and have missed an opportunity to build God’s kingdom.
    1 Corinthians 2:8-10
But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord. That is what the Scriptures mean when they say,
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard,
    and no mind has imagined
    what God has prepared
    for those who love him.”
But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.

Impossible to Fail – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1944 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Dorothea Brande, and it is, “All that is necessary to break the spell of inertia and frustration is this: Act as if it were impossible to fail.”
    Impossible to Fail
We all know that we will fail occasionally and sometimes quite often. When approaching a project or task, the key is tackling it as IF it were impossible to fail, which will significantly accelerate your success rate. On the opposite side of that coin, if you approach a project or task as if there was a high probability of failure, then your failure rate will significantly increase. Our mindset drives our outcomes in every area of life. If you expect to succeed, you will achieve more often. If you start each day with a positive mindset, your days will be much more successful.
As with so many things in our lives, it goes back to the law of planting and harvesting. Plant good thoughts in your mind, and you will harvest positive outcomes. Along with the fertile soil of a positive mindset, plant the seeds of perseverance, and determination, with a good dose of hard work, and the harvest will be successful, more often than failure. Use your God-given talents and abilities for His honor and glory, and when you are finished with the project or task, you can stand in amazement at what God has accomplished through you.
    Matthew 19:26
Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”

Good People Must Act – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1943 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Edmund Burke, and it is, "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing."
    Good People Must Act
Evil has been in the world since the fall of humanity, but that doesn’t mean we should just sit back and allow evil to flourish if we have the opportunity to prevent it. With the prevalence of 24/7 news stations and always-available internet and social media, evil may seem more prevalent today than at any time in history. Still, if you study recorded history, the opposite is true.
The situation in the world today reminds me of the opening sentence in the classic book of The Tale of Two Cities. “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.” Considering that there are 7.96 billion people in the world today, per capita, there is less poverty, a higher standard of living, less manual labor, less child labor, less disease, less war, less oppression, less violence, less crime, less murder, more extended lifespans, more technology, more charity, and a more level playing field for everyone than at any time in history.
Yet, even considering this, we must be vigilant to take a stand against all forms of evil, oppression, and tyranny. If we do not stand for what is good and faithful and follow the precepts found in God’s Word, evil will raise its ugly head and wreak havoc throughout the world. Therefore, let us build God’s kingdom every day so that we will be ready to usher in His kingdom when Christ returns to earth.
    Ephesians 6:10-18
A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.  For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark...

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1942 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16  How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!    If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Brian Tracy, and it is: All successful people are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose.
    Successful People
Success always starts with a dream. The bigger the dream the greater your success will be. The bigger the dream, the more difficult it will be to achieve. Big dreams require the willingness to overcome enormous obstacles, which must be coupled with persistence and tenacity. If you are unwilling to invest the time, resources, and energy to achieve your dreams, then either change your dreams to something you can achieve or be honest with yourself that you are unwilling to make the sacrifices needed. All worthwhile endeavors require that you work every day in your pursuit of that endeavor. It means you keep your eye on the prize, that distant vision through predefined goals and a driven purpose to achieve it. Dream big, but be willing to do what it takes to reach that prize. In life, the ultimate prize is to assist in building God’s kingdom so that one day we will have the privilege to rule and reign with that perfect imager of God, Jesus Christ.
     1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
