  • Day 1691 – A Business Friendship – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1691 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Business Friendship – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! We are on Day 1691 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from John D. Rockefeller, and it is: A friendship founded on business is better than a business founded on friendship.
    A Business Friendship
Based on his success in business, I would say that John D Rockefeller knew a thing or two about business and friendships. It may be that he learned this lesson through a challenging experience of his own. However, from my own experience and observing several others businesses, I know that this quote contains good advice and wisdom. Indeed, one of the quickest ways to harm a friendship is to be a business partner. It can work, but grave errors are often made, and misconceptions flourish when business plans are not thought through before starting. The company must be structured with clearly defined roles and responsibilities for each partner. You should never start a business with 50/50 ownership. Someone has to be the overriding decision-maker. You need to have buy/sell agreements in place if one person wants out or can no longer participate in the business. You may not desire a spouse assuming control in the absence of your partner. Finally, there needs to be strong financial controls to ensure success and determine how any funds are distributed. These principles also apply if your friend and partner is also your spouse. Although working together and owning businesses has worked great for Paula and me, this is not always the case for married couples. It does work well if you are also able to establish trusted partners and friends through your business. That is because all the structure as mentioned above is set up before friendship. Keep in mind that a strong friendship may not result in a good business partnership. These principles assume that if you choose to establish a business partnership with another person or friend, both of you are committed Christ-followers. Otherwise, your business view and worldview may not align effectively. It would be challenging to be successful in business in these conditions.

Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever?

Welcome to Day 1690 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomAn Accepting Friend – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Bernard Meltzer, and it is: A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.
    An Accepting Friend
Throughout our lives, we have very few close friends. Your true friends are the ones who understand you and don’t hold your past against you. Instead, they will hope with you and help you achieve your dreams for the future. Most importantly, a good friend will accept you just the way you are and help you become all that God intended you to be. We have such few close friends during our lifetime because it requires an investment of time, genuine concern, and love to maintain the bonds of friendship. In my observation, it appears that women desire a greater need for multiple close friends, while my men are pleased with one or two. On a personal level, having Paula as my primary close friend is sufficient for me. Due, in part, to the schedule we maintain with work, exercise, Bible study time, and investing in our kids and grandkids, it is undoubtedly a fulfilling life for me. The key is to be a good friend to others and a close friend to those you love most.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2012%3A26andversion=NLT (Proverbs 12:26)
The godly give good advice to their friends; the wicked lead them astray.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20John%204%3A7andversion=NLT (1 John 4:7)
Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.

Today’s quote is from Unknown, and it is: A fool tells you what he will do; a boaster what he has done. The wise man does it and says nothing.
    Do It and Say Nothing
This quote certainly sums up most of humanity. We all know people who continually tell us of their grand plans and what they plan to accomplish. Somehow though, they never seem to get around to doing much of anything. Yet others do achieve some things, and you certainly know all about what they have done. But, unfortunately, they are the type who love to blow their trumpet loud and long to make sure that everyone knows what they have done. Others don’t say much and don’t draw attention to themselves, but you see the fruit of their efforts when you observe their quiet lives. They accomplish much, and it is usually for the benefit of others. This last type of person is indeed the wise ones. They realize and understand that we are here to accomplish God’s purpose with our lives. They would rather God receive the glory due him, and not themselves. Be like this third person.

  • Day 1688 – A Right Fool – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1688 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Right Fool – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1688 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from William Cowper, and it is: A fool must now and then be right, by chance.
    A Right Fool
This quote reminds me of a similar one: even a broken clock is right twice a day. So it is with those who are fools, so steeped in their foolishness, that they have no clue or understanding of how foolish they are. That said, even someone who continually makes unwise choices, which is the definition of a fool, is bound to be right by chance occasionally. I realize that we all make unwise or foolish decisions from time to time, but the Bible warns us not to remain unwise but to learn and grow in wisdom. The problem with most who are foolish is that they don’t even realize they are. A fool deludes themselves into thinking that their foolish decisions are wise. Let us know and understand ourselves well enough to realize when we need to obtain more wisdom, not be too proud to ask others for help and pursue whatever learning is required to be wise. An excellent place to start our journey to wisdom is to continually read and study the book of Proverbs in the Bible. It is an easy habit to establish, but few people do so. There are 31 chapters in Proverbs, one for each day of the month. I would encourage you to start reading the chapter that corresponds to the day of the month each day. Repeat this habit each month, and you will be amazed at the wisdom you will obtain. I have been practicing this habit for forty years, and it has been radically life-changing for me. Here are three verses of many in the book of Proverbs that will help you to understand.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2017%3A28andversion=NLT (Proverbs 17:28)
Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2027%3A22andversion=NLT (Proverbs 27:22)
You cannot separate fools from their foolishness, even though you grind them like grain with mortar and pestle.

    Today’s quote is from Proverbs 18:2, and it is: Fools have no interest in understanding;
they only want to air their own opinions.
    Airing Opinions
To think that a proverb King Solomon wrote nearly 4,000 years ago would be so relevant to our online social media world today is impressive. It is a testament to the enduring lessons from God’s Word. But, of course, Solomon also wrote in another book of the Bible, https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes%201%3A9andversion=NLT (Ecclesiastes 1:9) History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Yet, so many persons today find a bully pulpit online where they delight in airing their opinions. It is evident from most arguments' absurdity, from people on all parts of the political and religious spectrum, that those who do so find no pleasure in understanding others or the topics that they are pontificating about. There is so much misinformation that flows through the news media and social media today that it is challenging to discern the truth. Politicians are corrupt and lie, news anchors no longer are ethical in their journalism, and a horde of self-proclaimed experts online spew verbal vomit continuously. That is why we need to focus on God’s Word. It not only contains truth; it is truth. When you don’t know who to believe, it is time to back away from the information you are receiving elsewhere, and dig into God’s Word for good news that will impact your life positively.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2030%3A4%2D6andversion=NLT (Proverbs 30:4-6)
Who but God goes up to heaven and comes back down?
Who holds the wind in his fists?
Who wraps up the oceans in his cloak?
Who has created the whole wide world?
What is his name—and his son’s name?
    Tell me if you know!
Every word of God proves true.
He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.
Do not add to his words,

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Alexander Hamilton, and it is: A fondness for power is implanted in most men, and it is natural to abuse it when acquired.
    Abusive Power
We all like to be in control and have power over others. Unfortunately, for some, this thirst for power will slowly grow and will turn into abusive power. We are all leaders in some area of our life. Leadership can take the form of a parent with your children or a teacher with your students. Maybe you are a manager, supervisor, or mentor to someone. Regardless, we have the ability to both lead and exert power over many people during the coruse of our lives. The question is, will you abuse the power that had been given to you? Will you exert it over others to control or manipulate them? Defined control and power are taught in the Bible. Jesus had the power of God coursing through his human frame, and yet, he never abused that power. He taught his disciples that if you desire to be first in the kingdom of God, you must be a servant on earth. Jesus lays out how we can be powerful in God’s kingdom in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+20%3A25-28andversion=NLT (Matthew 20:25-28,) But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

We are on Day 1685 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from B. B. Warfield, and it is: A firm faith in the universal providence of God is the solution of all earthly troubles.
    A Firm Faith
All of us have faith, at least to some degree. Even if you do not believe in a personal God who created us to be His imagers, you still have faith. Every time you sit down on a chair, you have faith that it will hold you. Every time you get into a car, you have faith that you will reach your destination. So the question we need to ask ourselves as Christ-followers: is our faith strong enough in the universal providence of God that we can cease to worry about that which we have no control over. If not, what can we do to strengthen our faith? We certainly won’t have all of the answers, but that is where faith comes in. The writer of https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+11%3A1-3andversion=NLT (Hebrews 11:1-3) reminds us, Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.
If we have faith that God did create the entire universe, then why do we struggle and doubt that He will not provide for our daily needs? Instead, we need to depend on ourselves less and depend on God more.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+6%3A31-34andversion=NLT (Matthew 6:31-34) “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Keep On Delivering – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Carl Hubbell, and it is: A fellow doesn't last long on what he has done. So he has to keep on delivering.
    Keep On Delivering
We can accomplish outstanding achievements in life, but rarely can we just sit back and not continue to pursue new or additional successes. What we have achieved in the past is soon forgotten, by ourselves and even more so, by others. We shouldn’t be content to rest on past success but continue to compete against ourselves to become all that God intended us to be. We need to utilize our God-given talents and abilities effectively. There are times where you need to take a break and rest for a while, but never be so comfortable that you never start again. We were created as God’s imagers to fulfill his purpose for us within his kingdom. While accomplishment can bring a significant amount of satisfaction to our life, we should work to bring glory to God and not to ourselves. We should pursue assisting others in the attainment of their dream. Let us keep on keeping on…even when you feel like quitting. Otherwise, you and your accomplishments will be soon forgotten.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes+5%3A18-20andversion=NLT (Ecclesiastes 5:18-20)
Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. 19 And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God. 20 God keeps such people so busy enjoying life that they take no time to brood over the past.

We are on Day 1683 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Thomas Fuller, and it is: A fault, once denied, is twice committed.
    A Character of Integrity
I believe we all have the propensity to lie or to cover up our faults and inadequacies. We desire to make ourselves look better in front of others. While I certainly understand that desire and tendency, this type of behavior shows a weakness of integrity. Covering up a fault will only make us look even worse when the truth is discovered. It is much better to admit and confess when we have erred. We may have to suffer the embarrassment and possible ridicule now, but that is much less than what we will have to suffer if we engage in covering up, and then it is exposed. A person with character traits that include being honest with themselves will show to others that we have a character of integrity. Don’t let the temptation to look good in the short term cost us our life of strong integrity long term. We all have faults; that is part of being a human. To attempt a cover-up of those faults is shortsighted, foolish, and will result in the fault being committed twice. It is just not worth it.

People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2011%3A20andversion=NLT (Proverbs 11:20)
The Lord detests people with crooked hearts, but he delights in those with integrity.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2020%3A7andversion=NLT (Proverbs 20:7)
The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.

  • Day 1682 – A Fair-Weather Friend – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1682 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Fair-Weather Friend – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. We are on Day 1682 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Zig Ziglar, and it is: A fair-weather friend is one who is always there when he needs you.
    A Fair-Weather Friend
While Zig Ziglar is adding humor to what is meant by having a fair-weather friend, as with all comedy, there is undoubtedly an element of truth that makes it even funnier. On a more serious note, how do we identify fair-weather friends who are not dependable when needed. How do we love and encourage those who only come to us when they need something, and they drain our emotional energy. These types of friends are always taking but not replenishing or giving back to others. Should we exclude them from our lives, or should we continue to reach out to them? Cutting our connections with others can be a difficult decision to make. If you allow it, some individuals will suck your life, so there may be certain situations where you need to set some limits. From a secular worldview, it may be ok to cut off another person from our life completely. However, if we look at this situation from a Biblical worldview, we must consider how that will impact a person from an eternal perspective. We also need to consider how we can serve others, even if they do not pay it forward.
In “The Sermon on the Mount,” Jesus teaches us that our vocation is to create a Christian counter-culture. All things considered, we are to err on the side of loving others regardless, as we are taught in Matthew 5:43-48. You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.
