  • Day 1671 – Halfway to Winning – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1671 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomHalfway to Winning – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! We are on Day 1671 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Heinrich Heine, and it is: A daring beginning is halfway to winning.
    Halfway to Winning
Everyone desires to succeed in every area of life. To achieve anything of significance in life, you must plan and then work that plan. When you plan, you must stretch yourself, and escape from your comfort zone. Planning is not enough, though. You must execute your project with a passion for success and for completing that plan. Get beyond getting ready to get ready and take action. For most of us, we need to be sufficiently motivated to take action and then have the inner drive to continue through with perseverance when we run into obstacles. If our passion is not strong enough when we begin, we will not make the bold choices needed to succeed ultimately. Set your mind to what you desire for your outcome, and then boldly go forward. Like a boulder rolling down a hill, it is hard to get moving, and the progress is slow and difficult. As boulder gains momentum, it will gain speed and veracity the farther it goes. Be daring, be bold, and make an impact on the world. This is our vocation as citizens of God’s kingdom.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=colossians+3%3A17andversion=NLT (Colossians 3:17)
And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

  • Day 1670 – Don’t Be Cynical – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1670 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomDon't Be Cynical – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Oscar Wilde, and it is: A cynic is someone who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing.
    Don’t Be Cynical
We all know someone who is a bit cynical about life. As I grow older, and have seen and experienced much of what goes on in this world, I have to watch my attitude to make sure that I do not become too cynical. With the craziness going on in government, and within the radical fringes of society, we understand why there is so much cynicism in the world today. The breakdown of ethics and truth should never be an excuse to become cynical. Being cynical is not a character trait aligned with God’s precepts, found in His Word. We have a higher calling. There is more value to life than just cost. It is difficult not to become cynical ourselves. It is even more challenging to be kind to those who always find fault with everything or cynical of anything you may attempt to do. We must keep in focus that our lives should be lived fully, including loving those challenging to love. If we don’t practice this, we will adopt that cynical mindset ourselves.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+5%3A43-48andversion=NLT (Matthew 5:43-48)
You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Mahatma Gandhi, and it is: A customer is the most important visitor on our premises, he is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.
    The Importance of Others
This quote from Mahatma Gandhi is very true from a business perspective. So often, owners and employees of businesses and companies of any type lose sight of what is most important. We need to expand this thought though to churches, non-profit organizations, our families, and any place we find ourselves where we have an opportunity to serve others. Everyone whom God allows us to cross paths with should be important to us. We live on a thin silver cord where we are dependent on so many others for our existence. We should not view others as an interruption to our lives but by God’s grace and opportunity to serve another imager of God. Yes, we should pour ourselves into others, and by doing so, we can impact their lives for all eternity. We must keep an exponential mindset that we are a multiplying factor in all we come in contact with. If they pass on what you have given them, your service will multiply hundreds of times through eternity. Let us never lose sight of this impact.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Peter+4%3A8-11andversion=NLT (1 Peter 4:8-11)
Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay.
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Amy Carmichael, and it is: A cup brimful of sweet water cannot spill even one drop of bitter water, however suddenly jolted.
    A Cup of Sweet Water
We must be cautious about what we fill ourselves with. Whatever we allow in our minds and hearts will spill out of us during times of hardship and distress.
Adversity does not build character; it reveals it. How you handle a crisis is a test of your character. Life is full of obstacles. Every one of us faces some type of adversity during our short time on this earth. It is not a matter of if something will be thrown our way, but when. The actual personal test comes in the form of our response. How we handle our challenges will reveal our true character. Going through difficult times is like a heavy truck going over a small bridge: it doesn’t cause cracks so much as it reveals where there are already weak spots.
We all have to walk through pressure-filled situations regularly. Marriage and parenting are two realms of life that cause all kinds of adversity. Being in leadership or working with difficult co-workers can cause a great deal of stress. Struggling to pay the bills, or dealing with declining health, can also feel like a heavy truck going over the small bridge that is your life. In those situations, we often have to face the worst about ourselves: our tendency to run from reality to find comfort in a favorite addiction, our anger and tendency to attack and blame others for our problems, or our fears and anxieties at facing the difficulties of life.
So how do we prepare ourselves for adversity?
First and foremost, we would be wise, as the pressure reveals the cracks in our character, to hear the gospel and recognize that our need for a Savior is more significant than we ever knew.
Secondly, we need to be continually filled with the Spirit. We must spend the time daily in God’s presence, confessing our sin and worshiping Jesus, getting to know who our great God is and what it means to know Him and live for Him. As we let Him sanctify us, we will find that when the trials come, we will have a greater ability to withstand the pressure, because we are strengthened by His Spirit within us and are becoming more and more like Jesus in our attitudes and actions.
There is no escaping adversity in this world, and when the hard times hit, it is often too late to change who we are. Now is the time to cultivate the life of the Spirit. Now is the time to draw on God, so that when adversity comes, we can stand firm and weather the storm.
Make sure your cup is full of sweet water, so when adversity does come, what splashes out will be refreshing to others.

Today’s quote is from Jim Collins, and it is: A culture of discipline is not a principle of business, it is a principle of greatness.
    A Principle of Greatness
Discipline is a requirement of greatness. If a business, a church, a family, or each of us personally must be disciplined before we will ever achieve anything that is considered great. It goes back to the principle of planting and harvesting. If we ever intend to harvest greatness in an area of our lives, we must first plant and then cultivate discipline over a significant time. It won’t happen in any other way. This principle also applies to any type of organization. Planting the tiny seeds of discipline every single day is the first step. Discipline seeds watered with showers of persistence will foster growth and success, resulting in an abundant harvest of greatness. Just like the law of gravity will always pull an object to the ground, greatness cannot be achieved without discipline. It is not just discipline in one area of life, but discipline in everything that we do. It cannot be any other way.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+12%3A10-11andversion=NLT (Hebrews 12:10-11)
For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.

Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Beth Moore, and it is: A crushing hurt comes to our heart, and the sympathizing, scarred hand of Christ presses the wound; and just for a moment, the pain seems to intensify...but finally the bleeding stops.
    A Crushing Hurt
There are times in our lives where we are overcome by physical, emotional, and even spiritual hurts and disappointments. It may be an illness or disease in ourselves or a close loved one. It may be the loss due to the death of our spouse, family member, or close friend. It may be an emotional struggle where those we love most abandon us or treat us harshly. It may be where we have fallen away from God’s precepts and living a life that is contrary to His Word. When we are in the pit of despair or the dungeon of gloom, we need to turn by faith to the only one who can provide true peace and comfort. At first, as we begin to climb out of the valley, it may seem like the scarred hand of Christ is hindering us as He walks us through the deepest darkest valleys and up the rocky paths that take us upwards. As we continue, we will realize that the sun begins to shine again by God's grace and that we are being made whole. I recognize that our complete deliverance will only come when we dwell in eternity with Christ, but the pain will subside, and the bleeding of our hearts will stop. We can then look back and realize that Jesus never abandoned us but comforted us when we needed it most.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Peter+2%3A22-25andversion=NLT (1 Peter 2:22-25)
    He never sinned,
    nor ever deceived anyone.
He did not retaliate when he was insulted,
nor threaten revenge when he suffered.
He left his case in the hands of God,
    who always judges fairly.
    He personally carried our sins
in his body on the cross
so that we can be dead to sin
and live for what is right.
    By his wounds

Today’s quote is from Ayn Rand, and it is: A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.
    A Creative Person
Some people are very competitive when competing against others and need that external motivation to succeed. Although I do like to compete with others at times, I am more driven by my desire to achieve and excel within myself. I hold myself to a high standard and like to see if I can improve a little more each day, week, month, and year. It is the incremental changes over time that create an exponential mindset and level of achievement. I don’t necessarily consider myself overly creative, but what I lack in natural creativity, I strive to make up by exceeding in several areas of my life. You can do the same. Whether you are driven to exceed the levels others have achieved or transcend your past accomplishments, you can excel and live a rich and satisfying life. Regardless, be motivated by your desire to succeed. Always remember that the minor incremental changes will allow you to achieve greatness.

We are on Day 1663 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from C.S. Lewis, and it is: A continual looking forward to the eternal world is not a form of escapism or wishful thinking, but one of the things a Christian is meant to do.
    Looking Forward
I have to admit; I am future-oriented in my outlook on life. The past and the present do not strongly influence what I anticipate will happen in the future. I am optimistic but pragmatic. While I don’t look at the future through rose-colored glasses, I tend to reframe any situation in my life positively. I realize that others view the future based on their experiences of the past. Still, others view the future on what is happening in the present. Regardless of which perspective you view life, as Christ-followers, we often reframe our past and current circumstances based on what we perceive heaven or eternity to be like. In that manner, Christ-followers at times do minimize their responsibilities that we have on earth. We do need to fulfill our purpose in building God’s kingdom while we dwell on the earth, but we can never take our eyes off the prize before us, which is eternity. Sometimes this will cause us to conflict with our focus in life. We desire eternity, but yet we still have work to do while we are alive. So while we can look eagerly towards eternity, we must remain steadfast in our devotion and service to God. This is how the Apostle Paul put it in his letter to the Philippians.

For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die. For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from St. John Chrysostom, and it is: A comprehended god is no god.
    Understanding God
We not only think we know who God is, but many times, we try to set ourselves up as God. Instead of realizing that we are created an imager of God, we try to make God in our image. We are invited to know God, and this is accomplished by knowing His Word and following His precepts found in His Word. We are responsible for the revelation that God has provided to us, but there is so much that we will not understand, and that is ok. By faith, we believe, even when we may not fully comprehend God and his plan for the world and each of us individually. So it has been since the creation of humankind, we walk by faith, not by sight. Unlike those from the time of creation through when God came to earth through the incarnation of Jesus Christ, we do have God’s complete revelation to humans, which is His Word. God’s Word contains all that He chose to reveal to us, but we still have much we do not know about God, His ways, and how He works. Our focus needs to be on building God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. We aim to restore Eden, where God, His divine creatures, and humankind will dwell together as we serve Him.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%202%3A9andversion=NLT (1 Corinthians 2:9)
That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”
