  • Day 1661 – A Competent Leader – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1661 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Competent Leader – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! We are on Day 1661 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from John J. Pershing, and it is: A competent leader can get efficient service from poor troops; an incapable leader can demoralize the best of troops.
    A Competent Leader
Every person is a leader of others, at least in some area of life. You may be a Dad or Mom, Aunt or Uncle, a teacher, a manager, a pastor, or an officer in the armed service. Regardless of who you impact, it would be best to strive to be competent in that area of life. When you are competent in a particular area of life, even if those you lead are not very good or qualified, you can still obtain good service from those you lead. Otherwise, it will frustrate and demoralize those you are attempting to teach if you are incapable of your leadership. You may need to train yourself to be a better, more competent leader. If that is the case, by all means, obtain the training that you need. Don’t try to bluff your way through leading others. You will lose the respect and admiration of others. Do whatever is necessary to be more competent in all areas of life, especially in those areas where God has gifted you. You will know when you see a person who is a good leader. An example of a good leader in the church is described in:
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Timothy+3%3A1-7andversion=NLT (1 Timothy 3:1-7)
This is a trustworthy saying: “If someone aspires to be a church leader, he desires an honorable position.” So a church leader must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be faithful to his wife. He must exercise self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must be able to teach. He must not be a heavy drinker or be violent. He must be gentle, not quarrelsome, and not love money. He must manage his own family well, having children who respect and obey him. For if a man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God’s church? A church leader must not be a new believer, because he might become proud, and the devil would cause him to fall. Also, people outside the church must speak well of him so that he will not be disgraced and fall into the devil’s trap.

  • Day 1660 – A Good Coach – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1660 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Good Coach – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" We are on https://wisdom-trek.com/captivate-podcast/day-1660/ (Day 1660) of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from John Wooden, and it is, “A coach is someone who can give correction without causing resentment.”
    A Good Coach
This quote is from one of the greatest all-time coaches, so he should know something about what makes a coach good. Coaching and mentoring are close siblings because the result should be the same. A good coach or mentor will instruct, guide, demonstrate, and encourage discipline and correction when needed. To effectively coach, you must provide what I listed in the last sentence without causing resentment from the coaching person.
A coach is an encourager but is also a disciplinarian. A coach will lead by example but is thrilled when the person they are coaching excels in the capabilities and performs to a higher level than themselves. A good coach will foster in the team or individual a desire to improve, work hard, and sacrifice their short-term desires for their long-term dreams. Even when correcting the ones they are coaching, it will be done in a kind, encouraging way and will drive that team or person to achieve levels they never thought possible. A good coach will never foster resentment because the team will know that the coach pushing them is in their best interest.
So if you desire to be a coach or a mentor, keep in focus that the result should be to improve the person you are working with in a kind and encouraging manner. Also, keep in mind that it will require discipline and correction to better the person you are coaching.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Timothy%202%3A1%2D3andversion=NLT (2 Timothy 2:1-3)
Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Anonymous, and it is: A closed mouth gathers no foot.
    Close Your Mouth
We all have an issue with talking too much, talking when it isn’t appropriate, and saying things that are not kind to others. Our mouth can get us into all sorts of trouble. It could be with your spouse, with a friend, with a work associate, or in a multitude of other situations. Why do we feel so compelled to spew out words when it would be much better if we just kept our mouth shut most of the time? When we talk too much, and too often, it won’t take too long before we say something that is inappropriate or that others don’t need or want to hear. I know this doesn’t sound pleasant, but I refer to this as verbal diarrhea because when your spew words too quickly, it is repulsive to others. It would do us well if we just listen to what others are saying and determine their real needs and concerns. Once we listen with intention, then be very careful in providing your wisdom and advice. There is a vacuum in our society for people who are good listeners. It takes practice before listening with intention becomes a practice. When you are speaking, it is impossible to listen at the same time. For humankind, there are a plethora of verses that caution us about opening our mouth and talking when we should keep our mouth closed and listen.
    Here are just a few.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James%201%3A19andversion=NLT (James 1:19) Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+10%3A19andversion=NLT (Proverbs 10:19) Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget
Today’s quote is from Brian Tracy, and it is: A clear vision, backed by definite plans, gives you a tremendous feeling of confidence and personal power.
    A Clear Vision
I have known and continue to see individuals who lack the confidence and personal power to succeed in various areas of life. This lack of confidence, many times, will be the result of lacking a clear vision of what a person desires in life. If there is no vision, then there can be no definitive plans made for the future. It requires both. Vision without a plan is just a hallucination. You may see the vision, but it will never become a reality unless you design a plan and take action.
On the other hand, a plan without a vision is just drudgery. But a vision with a plan that is then put into action can change the world. To put it in a slightly different light, action without thought is impulsiveness. Thought without action is procrastination. When impulsiveness is unwanted, the message seems to be this: think – that is, reflect at a deeper level – before acting. The opposite of strategic thinking might be mindlessness.
Once you have confidence and power, you will be successful in whatever areas of life you desire. When others see confidence in you, they are willing to trust and follow you, giving you the power to carry on and make a positive impact on others for God’s kingdom.

So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget: https://feeds.captivate.fm/wisdomtrek/
Today’s quote is from Hans Kung, and it is: A Church which abandons the truth abandons itself.
    Truth Abandoned
When most of us think of church, we think of a particular church building or possibly a denomination. If this is the case, then we don’t have the correct mindset. The church is made up of everyone who has placed believing loyalty in the work of Jesus Christ. Christ is truth, so if you individually, a local gathering of believers, or the church universal abandons the truth, it abandons its very essence. We hear of believers deconstructing their faith which is essentially abandoning the truth. We hear of local congregations adopting our modern culture even if it is contrary to the precepts found in God’s Word, which is also an abandonment of the truth. God is the author of all truth, and Jesus told his disciple Thomas in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2014%3A6andversion=NLT (John 14:6) Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
There can be no truth apart from God and His son. Our modern culture seeks truth, but they seek it in all the wrong places. The culture will never be satisfied until they turn to God. Yes, Jesus, God in human form, came to establish His kingdom on earth, but it was not that kingdom that everyone thought He would develop. The local official Pilate specifically asked Jesus if he was a king. Unfortunately, Pilate abandoned the truth also. May we, as God’s church, never fall prey to this exact situation.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+18%3A35-38andversion=NLT (John 18:35-38)
Am I a Jew?” Pilate retorted. “Your own people and their leading priests brought you to me for trial. Why? What have you done?”
Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world.”
Pilate said, “So you are a king?”
Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”
“What is truth?” Pilate asked. Then he went out again to the people and told them, “He is not guilty of any crime.”

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Croft M. Pentz, and it is: A Christian will not amount to much unless there is enthusiasm in his Christianity.
    Christian Enthusiasm
We can become enthusiastic about many things and events in life. What about your life as a disciple of Christ? Are you passionate about being a citizen of God’s Kingdom? If we want to impact the lives of others for the cause of Christ, then we need to show a little enthusiasm. I do not have, by nature, an overall bubbly personality. I am somewhat reserved, but that does not equate to a lack of confidence and excitement in my daily trek of life. With a tremendous internal passion, I desire to see the kingdom of God advance throughout the world. This inner drive and enthusiasm drives me on to produce this podcast five days a week. To publish encouraging scripture verses twice each day. To take on the additional responsibilities of speaking at our church regularly. It should be the same in your life. If you wish to be effective in your Christain walk, you need to be enthusiastic about your calling and destiny. Your walk does not have to be an exciting external show of enthusiasm, but it may be the gentle spirit of encouragement and kindness to others in which you wish to share God’s kingdom.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%2015%3A57%2D58andversion=NLT (1 Corinthians 15:57-58)
But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Jim Patrick, and it is: A Christian must keep the faith, but not to himself.
    Keep The Faith
Throughout scripture, we are encouraged to ‘keep the faith,’ but that does not mean keeping it to ourselves. In fact, we are commanded to share our faith with others as we have the opportunity to do so. Faith is powerful, and with that power, we can move mountains. It only takes a small amount of faith to impact the world significantly. The root of the issue is that we lack adequate faith for our use, let alone having enough to share that faith with others. If we are questioning and not following God’s precepts, how can we expect others who observe us and gain faith through us? It is through faith that a righteous person has life. We need to allow God to enable us to live a life worthy of His call. It is then we will have the power to accomplish all the good things faith in God prompts us to do. We need to cling to our faith so that we can share it with others. The instructions for a robust faith are found in,
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+12%3A1-2andversion=NLT (Hebrews 12:1-2) Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Martin Luther, and it is: A Christian is a perfectly free lord of all, subject to none. A Christian is a perfectly dutiful servant of all, subject to all.
    Servant Lord
As true imagers of God, we do have the ability to choose. We are not automatons who are receiving divine mental direction from our creator. Yes, if we are seeking, God’s Spirit will guide us, but we still can choose. God can choose, and since we are imagers of Him, he has granted us that ability. Jesus Christ, who is God who became human, decided to do so. Throughout His life, He was faced with every type of temptation as we are, and yet He did not sin. He chose to remain loyal to His divine nature. It is the same for us. We are free to lord over others treating them in a manner that is not according to God’s Word. We are also free to be a perfectly dutiful servant that chooses to place ourselves under others and be subject to them. Christ was the perfect imager of God, and so we should follow His example, with the help of the Holy Spirit, and be willing to serve others as Christ came to serve.
After they arrived at Capernaum and settled in a house, Jesus asked his disciples, “What were you discussing out on the road?” But they didn’t answer, because they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest. He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”
Then he put a little child among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me.”

Welcome to Day 1653 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Keyhole To God – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek. We are on Day 1653 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Robert E. Gibson, and it is: A Christian is a keyhole through which other folks see God.
    The Keyhole To God
Do others see God in you? There is no way that we as fallen humans can do justice to God’s magnificence, but does your life show a tiny glimpse of God? After all, we are created to be God’s imagers. To show forth His attributes and character traits. I know, most of the time, we are a poor reflection of who God really is, but your life should show enough light that others can see God through you. Think about a time when you were a child, or maybe even as an adult where you looked through a keyhole to get a tiny view of what lies beyond a closed door. If the next room did not have a light shining in it, you would see nothing. If there were an obstacle is blocking the keyhole, you would not be able to see into the next room. Yes, your perspective would be governed by the small part of the room that you could actually see. So it is with us; if others are looking through the keyhole, represented through our lives, they should know the radiance of God through us. Let the light of God shine for all to see through the keyhole, which is our lives.

When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Max Lucado, and it is: A Christian in his surroundings should encourage everyone to be better, instead of being the one who stoops to be like everyone else.
    Encourage Everyone
As Christ-followers, we are to be distinctly different from those who are not, but in a very positive manner. Instead of blending in with our current culture, we need to be defining what the culture should be as a disciple of Christ. Our world view and outlook on life are not the same as what is so intelligently portrayed on TV, the news media, or much of social media. Where we see division and strife, we should be demonstrating love and encouragement. Where we see people cutting down others, we should be building others up. Where we see anger and violence, we should be promoting unity and peace. Instead of stooping to the dangerous level of those who do not know Christ, we should be climbing on the towering rock of safety. Our natural habitat as citizens of God’s kingdom should be reflected in the fruit of the Spirit that inhabits us. When we act as if we are not part of God’s kingdom, we are not adequately representing the King of our kingdom. We need to encourage everyone we meet to be better. We are not to stoop down to be like those who are not yet part of God’s kingdom. We are to have the same attitude as Christ.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+2%3A1-4andversion=NLT (Philippians 2:1-4)
Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
