  • Day 1674 – The Trials of Perfection – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1674 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomThe Trials of Perfection – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! We are on Day 1674 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from a Chinese Proverb, and it is: A diamond cannot be polished without friction, nor the man perfected without trials.
    The Trials Of Perfection
Did you ever have a rock tumbler when you were younger? At some point in our family, I know we had at least one. It was neat to put the rough, sharp, and dirty stones into the tumbler, which also contained water and sand. It would spin the tumbler when it was turned on, and it wasn't quiet when starting. Over the following hours, the noise level of the tumbling rocks would become less and less. The hardness of the original stones determined how long the process would take. Even the hardest stone, like a diamond, will eventually be polished to a smooth and beautiful gemstone. Gems will not be produced if there is no sand and water causing friction.
So it is with our lives, our hard edges will only be made smooth with the friction of trials and difficulties which we face. No one likes to go through these trials, but they are required to become the gemstones in God’s kingdom. The more complex our character and personalities are, the more tests are necessary to make us pure. Instead of avoiding the trials, we must accept them and become fully immersed to learn quickly. Just like the stones in the rock tumbler, or gold in a fire, it should desire to come out as beautiful gems and pure gold.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Peter+1%3A6-7andversion=NLT (1 Peter 1:6-7)
So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

  • Day 1673 – A Day of Worry – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1673 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Day of Worry – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from John Lubbock, and it is: A day of worry is more exhausting than a week of work.
    A Day Of Worry
While I enjoy the work that I do daily, it does require that I am in front of a computer for at least 10 hours a day, many times longer. Besides being on my feet at my standing desk for all of those hours, It is certainly not physically demanding work. There is a lot of mental processing that must go on for all of those hours. At the end of each day, I am mentally and somewhat physically exhausted. I yearn to be outside working hard physically, but that is not the plan God has for me. To make up for this, I do exercise each morning vigorously for about 75 minutes. That certainly helps me physically, and I know it is necessary to continue living a healthy lifestyle. I do long for the weekends, where I can get out of doors and work hard physically. One exhausting task that I do is cutting up our numerous giant trees with a large chainsaw and then splitting them into firewood with our log splitter. At the end of a few hours of that, and I am physically spent. But you know what, it is an exhaustion that you can appreciate. Another type of exhaustion that is not satisfying and will destroy you if you allow it to invade you is the exhaustion that comes from worry. Nearly all worry is based on fear and not facts. Anxiety will destroy you spiritually, emotionally, and even physically. Two solutions will help you when you are prone to worry. First, invest time in some very strenuous physical activities. Second, find someone who requires assistance or in need of a friend and invest time into their lives. You will find that you are worrying less and have more energy than ever.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+4%3A6-7andversion=NLT (Philippians 4:6-7)
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

  • Day 1672 – Hemmed in Prayer – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1672 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomHemmed in Prayer – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Charles Spurgeon, and it is: A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel.
    Hemmed in Prayer
Ever have one of those days where it seems to unravel before your very eyes? I have had my share of them. Sometimes they come all at once. When life begins to unravel, where can we run? How do you start and end your day? I would recommend that you hem the beginning of each new day by allowing God’s Word to flow through you and seeking His face through prayer. When you establish the proper mindset at the beginning of each day, it will allow you to focus on what is most important in life. When you end your day with a prayer of gratitude for another day well-lived, you hem the day that might have otherwise unraveled.
Why do we hem a piece of cloth? So that it looks finished. So that it doesn’t unravel. So that it doesn’t fall apart. We hem so that the fabric is protected and the edges are secure.
Our all-knowing God is doing that for our lives. He hems us in so that we have borders and those borders are protected. God hems us in so that we are secure and finished in Him. He hems us in, behind us, and before us. What an important truth to live, remember, you are hemmed in today. The borders of your life are protected and secure because of our all-knowing, all-loving God.
If your life has come unraveled, turn in prayer to the Master Tailor. He stands at the ready with the needle in hand. God is prepared to put things back for you. All you have to do is “stand still”…..and see the salvation of the Lord. The Master hems you in through prayer.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+31%3A1-5andversion=NLT (Psalm 31:1-5)
    O Lord, I have come to you for protection;
    don’t let me be disgraced.
Save me, for you do what is right.
    Turn your ear to listen to me;
    rescue me quickly.
    Be my rock of protection,
a fortress where I will be safe.
You are my rock and my fortress.
For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger.
Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me,
for I find protection in you alone.
I entrust my spirit into your hand.
Rescue me, Lord, for you are a faithful God.

Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Heinrich Heine, and it is: A daring beginning is halfway to winning.
    Halfway to Winning
Everyone desires to succeed in every area of life. To achieve anything of significance in life, you must plan and then work that plan. When you plan, you must stretch yourself, and escape from your comfort zone. Planning is not enough, though. You must execute your project with a passion for success and for completing that plan. Get beyond getting ready to get ready and take action. For most of us, we need to be sufficiently motivated to take action and then have the inner drive to continue through with perseverance when we run into obstacles. If our passion is not strong enough when we begin, we will not make the bold choices needed to succeed ultimately. Set your mind to what you desire for your outcome, and then boldly go forward. Like a boulder rolling down a hill, it is hard to get moving, and the progress is slow and difficult. As boulder gains momentum, it will gain speed and veracity the farther it goes. Be daring, be bold, and make an impact on the world. This is our vocation as citizens of God’s kingdom.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=colossians+3%3A17andversion=NLT (Colossians 3:17)
And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

  • Day 1670 – Don’t Be Cynical – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1670 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomDon't Be Cynical – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.
Today’s quote is from Oscar Wilde, and it is: A cynic is someone who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing.
    Don’t Be Cynical
We all know someone who is a bit cynical about life. As I grow older, and have seen and experienced much of what goes on in this world, I have to watch my attitude to make sure that I do not become too cynical. With the craziness going on in government, and within the radical fringes of society, we understand why there is so much cynicism in the world today. The breakdown of ethics and truth should never be an excuse to become cynical. Being cynical is not a character trait aligned with God’s precepts, found in His Word. We have a higher calling. There is more value to life than just cost. It is difficult not to become cynical ourselves. It is even more challenging to be kind to those who always find fault with everything or cynical of anything you may attempt to do. We must keep in focus that our lives should be lived fully, including loving those challenging to love. If we don’t practice this, we will adopt that cynical mindset ourselves.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+5%3A43-48andversion=NLT (Matthew 5:43-48)
You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Mahatma Gandhi, and it is: A customer is the most important visitor on our premises, he is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.
    The Importance of Others
This quote from Mahatma Gandhi is very true from a business perspective. So often, owners and employees of businesses and companies of any type lose sight of what is most important. We need to expand this thought though to churches, non-profit organizations, our families, and any place we find ourselves where we have an opportunity to serve others. Everyone whom God allows us to cross paths with should be important to us. We live on a thin silver cord where we are dependent on so many others for our existence. We should not view others as an interruption to our lives but by God’s grace and opportunity to serve another imager of God. Yes, we should pour ourselves into others, and by doing so, we can impact their lives for all eternity. We must keep an exponential mindset that we are a multiplying factor in all we come in contact with. If they pass on what you have given them, your service will multiply hundreds of times through eternity. Let us never lose sight of this impact.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Peter+4%3A8-11andversion=NLT (1 Peter 4:8-11)
Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay.
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. We are on Day 1668 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Amy Carmichael, and it is: A cup brimful of sweet water cannot spill even one drop of bitter water, however suddenly jolted.
    A Cup of Sweet Water
We must be cautious about what we fill ourselves with. Whatever we allow in our minds and hearts will spill out of us during times of hardship and distress.
Adversity does not build character; it reveals it. How you handle a crisis is a test of your character. Life is full of obstacles. Every one of us faces some type of adversity during our short time on this earth. It is not a matter of if something will be thrown our way, but when. The actual personal test comes in the form of our response. How we handle our challenges will reveal our true character. Going through difficult times is like a heavy truck going over a small bridge: it doesn’t cause cracks so much as it reveals where there are already weak spots.
We all have to walk through pressure-filled situations regularly. Marriage and parenting are two realms of life that cause all kinds of adversity. Being in leadership or working with difficult co-workers can cause a great deal of stress. Struggling to pay the bills, or dealing with declining health, can also feel like a heavy truck going over the small bridge that is your life. In those situations, we often have to face the worst about ourselves: our tendency to run from reality to find comfort in a favorite addiction, our anger and tendency to attack and blame others for our problems, or our fears and anxieties at facing the difficulties of life.
So how do we prepare ourselves for adversity?
First and foremost, we would be wise, as the pressure reveals the cracks in our character, to hear the gospel and recognize that our need for a Savior is more significant than we ever knew.
Secondly, we need to be continually filled with the Spirit. We must spend the time daily in God’s presence, confessing our sin and worshiping Jesus, getting to know who our great God is and what it means to know Him and live for Him. As we let Him sanctify us, we will find that when the trials come, we will have a greater ability to withstand the pressure, because we are strengthened by His Spirit within us and are becoming more and more like Jesus in our attitudes and actions.
There is no escaping adversity in this world, and when the hard times hit, it is often too late to change who we are. Now is the time to cultivate the life of the Spirit. Now is the time to draw on God, so that when adversity comes, we can stand firm and weather the storm.

Make sure your cup is full of sweet water, so when adversity does come, what splashes out will be refreshing to others.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+6%3A45andversion=NLT (Luke 6:45)
A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

Welcome to Day 1667 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Principle of Greatness – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. We are on Day 1667 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Jim Collins, and it is: A culture of discipline is not a principle of business, it is a principle of greatness.
    A Principle of Greatness
Discipline is a requirement of greatness. If a business, a church, a family, or each of us personally must be disciplined before we will ever achieve anything that is considered great. It goes back to the principle of planting and harvesting. If we ever intend to harvest greatness in an area of our lives, we must first plant and then cultivate discipline over a significant time. It won’t happen in any other way. This principle also applies to any type of organization. Planting the tiny seeds of discipline every single day is the first step. Discipline seeds watered with showers of persistence will foster growth and success, resulting in an abundant harvest of greatness. Just like the law of gravity will always pull an object to the ground, greatness cannot be achieved without discipline. It is not just discipline in one area of life, but discipline in everything that we do. It cannot be any other way.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+12%3A10-11andversion=NLT (Hebrews 12:10-11)
For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.

  • Day 1666 – A Crushing Hurt – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1666 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Crushing Hurt – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. We are on Day 1666 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Beth Moore, and it is: A crushing hurt comes to our heart, and the sympathizing, scarred hand of Christ presses the wound; and just for a moment, the pain seems to intensify...but finally the bleeding stops.
    A Crushing Hurt
There are times in our lives where we are overcome by physical, emotional, and even spiritual hurts and disappointments. It may be an illness or disease in ourselves or a close loved one. It may be the loss due to the death of our spouse, family member, or close friend. It may be an emotional struggle where those we love most abandon us or treat us harshly. It may be where we have fallen away from God’s precepts and living a life that is contrary to His Word. When we are in the pit of despair or the dungeon of gloom, we need to turn by faith to the only one who can provide true peace and comfort. At first, as we begin to climb out of the valley, it may seem like the scarred hand of Christ is hindering us as He walks us through the deepest darkest valleys and up the rocky paths that take us upwards. As we continue, we will realize that the sun begins to shine again by God's grace and that we are being made whole. I recognize that our complete deliverance will only come when we dwell in eternity with Christ, but the pain will subside, and the bleeding of our hearts will stop. We can then look back and realize that Jesus never abandoned us but comforted us when we needed it most.

    He never sinned,
    nor ever deceived anyone.
He did not retaliate when he was insulted,
nor threaten revenge when he suffered.
He left his case in the hands of God,
    who always judges fairly.
    He personally carried our sins
in his body on the cross
so that we can be dead to sin
and live for what is right.
    By his wounds
    you are healed.
    Once you were like sheep
    who wandered away.
But now you have turned to your Shepherd,
    the Guardian of your souls.

  • Day 1665 – A Creative Person – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1665 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Creative Person – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Ayn Rand, and it is: A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.
    A Creative Person
Some people are very competitive when competing against others and need that external motivation to succeed. Although I do like to compete with others at times, I am more driven by my desire to achieve and excel within myself. I hold myself to a high standard and like to see if I can improve a little more each day, week, month, and year. It is the incremental changes over time that create an exponential mindset and level of achievement. I don’t necessarily consider myself overly creative, but what I lack in natural creativity, I strive to make up by exceeding in several areas of my life. You can do the same. Whether you are driven to exceed the levels others have achieved or transcend your past accomplishments, you can excel and live a rich and satisfying life. Regardless, be motivated by your desire to succeed. Always remember that the minor incremental changes will allow you to achieve greatness.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2025%3A20%2D22andversion=NLT (Matthew 5:20-21)
The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’ “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!
