  • Day 2192 – Wisdom Nuggets – Proverbs 6:30-35 – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 2192 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Wisdom Nuggets – Proverbs 6:30-35 – Daily Wisdom  Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2192 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2192 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.   In today’s Wisdom Nugget, I’m honored to continue our journey through the timeless wisdom found in the book of Proverbs. Today, we’re diving into Proverbs 6:30-35, as translated in the New Living Translation. So, let’s put on our hiking boots, and together, we’ll navigate the profound insights of these verses. Pause… In this passage, we’ll uncover the consequences of theft and adultery, and how they impact our lives and relationships. Proverbs 6:30-35 serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of integrity and the far-reaching effects of our actions. Verse 30-31: “Excuses might be found for a thief who steals because he is starving. But if he is caught, he must pay back seven times what he stole, even if he has to sell everything in his house.” These verses touch upon a nuanced aspect of theft. While the writer acknowledges that desperation might lead some to steal out of necessity, such actions still have consequences. The punishment for theft is significant – paying back seven times the stolen amount. This underscores the importance of respecting the property and rights of others, even in times of need. Pause… Verse 32-35: “But the man who commits adultery is an utter fool, for he destroys himself. He will be wounded and disgraced. His shame will never be erased. For the woman’s jealous husband will be furious, and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge. He will accept no compensation, nor be satisfied with a payoff of any size.” These verses offer a stark contrast by highlighting the grave consequences of adultery. The writer doesn’t mince words, describing the adulterer as an “utter fool” who brings destruction upon himself. The intensity of the repercussions, from physical harm to enduring disgrace, serves as a cautionary tale about the catastrophic impact of infidelity. It also underscores the importance of honoring commitments and respecting the boundaries of others. Pause… As we reflect on Proverbs 6:30-35, we must recognize that our actions have far-reaching consequences for us and those around us. Pause… Take a moment to consider these questions: How do these verses resonate with your own experiences or observations? How can you apply this wisdom to your own life and relationships? Remember, wisdom isn’t just about knowledge; it’s about applying that knowledge to live a life of integrity and purpose. Pause… Let’s summarize the key takeaways from Proverbs 6:30-35:
    1. Respect Boundaries: Whether in times of need or desire, respect the boundaries and property of others. Theft, even in desperation, carries consequences.
    2. Avoid Adultery: Understand the gravity of adultery and the destruction it can bring, not only to yourself but to others involved. Honor commitments and maintain integrity

  • Day 2191– The Gospel of John – 42 – Our Weakness…His Strength – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 2191 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom The Gospel of John – 42 – Our Weakness...His Strength – Daily Wisdom Putnam Church Message – 01/08/2023 The Gospel of John – Part 5: Vindication Of The Word – Our Weakness…His Strength   Last week, we continued in our series of messages of the Good News according to John the Apostle, and we looked at the “Reactions to the Resurrected Lord.” The question we finished with is, what is my reaction to the resurrected Lord? Now that the disciples are convinced that Jesus rose from the dead, today we see the struggle they faced with this new reality, which is quite different from their Messiah establishing His kingdom immediately on earth. Our scripture for today is John 21:1-23, starting on page 1687 in the Pew Bible.  Jesus and the Miraculous Catch of Fish 21 Afterward, Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee.[a] It happened this way: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus[b]), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. 3 “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. 4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. 5 He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. 6 He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. 7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. 8 The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.[c] 9 When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many, the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask...

  • Day 2190 – Wisdom Nuggets – Proverbs 6:20-29 – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 2190 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Wisdom Nuggets – Proverbs 6:20-29 – Daily Wisdom  Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2190 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2190 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.   In today’s Wisdom Nugget, I’m honored to be your guide as we journey through the wisdom-filled landscapes of the book of Proverbs. Today, we’re embarking on a contemplative exploration of Proverbs 6:20-29, as beautifully rendered in the New Living Translation. So, let’s lace up our hiking boots and embark on this insightful journey together. Proverbs 6:20-29 offers us a profound lesson about the importance of guarding our hearts, making wise choices, and preserving the sanctity of relationships. Let’s delve into the verses and uncover the gems of wisdom they hold. Verse 20-23: “My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. Keep their words always in your heart. Tie them around your neck. When you walk, their counsel will lead you. When you sleep, they will protect you. When you wake up, they will advise you. For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life.” These verses highlight the importance of heeding parental guidance and internalizing their wisdom. The imagery of tying their words around your neck symbolizes carrying their teachings close to your heart. This counsel becomes a guiding light in your life, leading you in your daily choices and decisions. It’s a reminder that honoring and learning from our parents is a foundation for wise living. Pause… Verse 24-25: “It will keep you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of a promiscuous woman. Don’t lust for her beauty. Don’t let her coy glances seduce you.” Here, the writer addresses the potential pitfalls of succumbing to temptation, particularly in the realm of inappropriate relationships. The wisdom instilled by parents acts as a protective shield, guarding you against the allure of immorality. The emphasis is on cultivating self-control and discernment, rather than being swayed by superficial attractions. Pause… Verse 26-29: “For a prostitute will bring you to poverty, but sleeping with another man’s wife will cost you your life. Can a man scoop a flame into his lap and not have his clothes catch on fire? Can he walk on hot coals and not blister his feet? So it is with the man who sleeps with another man’s wife. He who embraces her will not go unpunished.” These verses provide a vivid analogy to convey the grave consequences of engaging in adultery and immorality. The imagery of fire and coals illustrates the danger of these actions. The writer underscores that such choices lead to ruin and devastation. The overarching message is clear: guarding our hearts and upholding fidelity in relationships is essential for a life of integrity and well-being. Pause… Remember that wisdom guides us in our choices and how we navigate our relationships and uphold the values that matter most. Let’s take a moment to reflect on these verses and consider...

Welcome to Day 2189 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom The Gospel of John – 41 – Reactions to the Resurrection – Daily Wisdom Putnam Church Message – 01/01/2023 The Gospel of John – Part 5: Vindication Of The Word – Reactions to the Resurrected Lord   Today is a new year, a new beginning as we continue our series on the Good News according to John the Apostle. Before we started our Advent series, we celebrated resurrection day when the disciples found the tomb of Jesus empty. January 1st is a perfect day to begin the final three messages from John. It was a new beginning for all the followers of Christ. As the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:17, This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! Today, we will examine the “Reactions to the Resurrected Lord.” Our scripture for today is John 20:11-31, starting on page 1685 in the Pew Bible. I will back up and include verse 10 in our last message. Follow along as I read, starting with verse 10.  Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene 11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. 13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. 15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”). 17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” 18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her. Jesus Appears to His Disciples 19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive...

The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.   In today’s Wisdom Nugget, I’m thrilled to guide you on this journey through the remarkable wisdom of the book of Proverbs. Today, we’re venturing into Proverbs 6:12-19, as translated in the New Living Translation. So lace up your hiking boots, and let’s navigate the treacherous terrain of these insightful verses together. Background Music Transition Proverbs 6:12-19 provides us with a clear roadmap to avoid destructive paths and recognize the qualities that can lead us astray. It’s like having a compass that helps us navigate the complexities of life. Verse 12-15: “What are worthless and wicked people like? They are constant liars, signaling their deceit with a wink of the eye, a nudge of the foot, or the wiggle of fingers. Their perverted hearts plot evil, and they constantly stir up trouble. But they will be destroyed suddenly, broken in an instant beyond all hope of healing.” These verses reveal the characteristics of those who engage in dishonest and harmful behavior. The imagery used here, like winking, nudging, and wiggling fingers, portrays their cunning ways of manipulation. The writer warns of their intentions to cause chaos and disturbance. The swift and irreparable consequences of their actions emphasize the urgency of cultivating honesty and integrity. Background Music Transition Verse 16-19: “There are six things the Lord hates— no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.” These verses present a comprehensive list of qualities that the Lord finds detestable. This list encompasses a range of behaviors, from pride and falsehood to violence and division. It serves as a moral compass, guiding us away from paths that lead to destruction and harm. The writer’s intent is to equip us with the wisdom to avoid these destructive qualities and instead embrace virtues that build up and promote harmony. Background Music Transition In a world full of distractions and conflicting messages, the wisdom found in Proverbs 6:12-19 acts as a steadfast guide, helping us make choices that align with our values and principles. Interlude Music As we pause to reflect on these verses, I encourage you to consider how they apply to your life. Are there areas where you’ve been tempted to engage in deceit or sow discord? How can you actively cultivate honesty and unity instead? Remember, wisdom is not just theoretical knowledge but a compass for practical, righteous living. Background Music Transition Guthrie: Let’s summarize the key takeaways from Proverbs 6:12-19:
    1. Avoid Deceit: Beware of those who manipulate and deceive through gestures and words. Cultivate honesty...

  • Day 2187– Wisdom Nuggets – Proverbs 6:1-11 – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 2187 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Wisdom Nuggets – Proverbs 6:1-11 – Daily Wisdom  Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2187 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2187 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.   In today’s Wisdom Nugget, I’m thrilled to guide you through the profound landscapes of wisdom found in the book of Proverbs. Today, we’re setting our compass toward Proverbs chapter 6:1-11 from the New Living Translation. So, lace up your boots and embark on this insightful journey together.   Pause… As we venture into Proverbs 6:1-11, we encounter a powerful message about the importance of diligence, responsibility, and the consequences of laziness. Verse 1-3: “My child, if you have put up security for a friend’s debt or agreed to guarantee the debt of a stranger— if you have trapped yourself by your agreement and are caught by what you said— follow my advice and save yourself, for you have placed yourself at your friend’s mercy. Now swallow your pride; go and beg to have your name erased.” These verses offer a cautionary tale about the dangers of financial entanglements and the importance of considering the consequences of our commitments. The imagery of being trapped by our own words reminds us to exercise prudence and responsibility regarding financial decisions. Pause… Verse 4-5: “Don’t put it off; do it now! Don’t rest until you do. Save yourself like a gazelle escaping from a hunter, like a bird fleeing from a net.” These verses emphasize the urgency of taking action. Just as a gazelle or a bird swiftly escapes from danger, we are called to address our responsibilities promptly. Delaying or procrastinating can lead to being trapped in unfavorable circumstances. Pause… Verse 6-11: “Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter. But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.” These verses use the example of ants to illustrate the value of diligence and hard work. Despite their lack of oversight, ants are industrious and forward-thinking, preparing for the future. The writer contrasts this with the danger of laziness, which leads to poverty and scarcity. It’s a reminder that diligence and responsible effort lead to abundance, while neglect leads to deprivation. Pause… As we conclude our exploration of Proverbs 6:1-11, let’s reflect on the wisdom of being diligent and responsible in our actions. Just as ants diligently prepare for the future, we are called to approach our responsibilities with the same level of commitment. Pause… I hope these verses have shed light on the importance of diligence and responsibility in our trek of life. As we continue our journey through the vast landscapes of

  • Day 2186– The Gospel of John – 40 – A Miraculous Resurrection – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 2186 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom The Gospel of John – 40 – A Miraculous Resurrection – Daily Wisdom Putnam Church Message – 11/20/2022 The Gospel of John – Part 5: Vindication Of The Word – A Miraculous Resurrection   Today, we continue our series on the Good News according to John the Apostle. Last week, we explored in detail the use of crucifixion as a means of capital punishment and John’s use of rich imagery, prophecies, and facts surrounding the crucifixion of the Messiah in a message titled ‘Death on a Cross.’ Our scripture for today is John 19:38-20:10, starting on page 1685 in the pew Bible. As we begin this Thanksgiving week, I can’t think of anything more important to be thankful for than the resurrection. We will study one of the most miraculous events in all of history in a message titled A Miraculous Resurrection  The Burial of Jesus 38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. 39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.[e] 40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. 41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.   The Empty Tomb 20 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” 3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.   We have so much to be thankful for today. Even for every breath that we take. Did you...

Welcome to Day 2185 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Wisdom Nuggets – Proverbs 5:15-23 – Daily Wisdom  Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2185 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2185 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.   In today’s Wisdom Nugget, we will continue exploring the rich tapestry of wisdom in the book of Proverbs. Today, we’ll be delving into Proverbs chapter 5: 15-23, as translated in the New Living Translation. So, let’s lace up our hiking boots and embark on this trek together.   Pause… Proverbs 5 is a roadmap to making wise choices, especially regarding relationships and fidelity. In these verses, we discover the beauty of monogamy and the importance of finding fulfillment within a committed partnership. Let’s explore the verses: Verse 15-17: “Drink water from your own well—share your love only with your wife. Why spill the water of your springs in the streets, having sex with just anyone? You should reserve it for yourselves. Never share it with strangers.” These verses use the metaphor of water from a well to illustrate the exclusivity and intimacy of a marital relationship. The wisdom here encourages us to value and protect our sacred bond with our spouse. Just as water from a well is meant for the household, a marriage’s deep love and intimacy are meant to be cherished within the confines of that sacred union. Pause… Verse 18-19: “Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. She is a loving deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts satisfy you always. May you always be captivated by her love.” These verses beautifully describe the delight and satisfaction found in a devoted marriage. The imagery of a loving deer and a graceful doe evokes the sense of wonder and admiration a husband should have for his wife. The message here is to cultivate a heart that remains captivated by the love and companionship of one’s spouse throughout life’s journey. Pause… Verse 20-23: “Why be captivated, my son, by an immoral woman, or fondle the breasts of a promiscuous woman? For the Lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes. An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his great foolishness.” These verses pivot to a cautionary tone, highlighting the dangers of succumbing to the allure of immorality. The writer emphasizes the importance of self-control and the consequences of indulging in destructive desires. The imagery of being held captive by one’s own sins reminds us of our choices’ profound impact on our lives. Pause… As we wrap up our exploration of Proverbs 5:15-23, we’re reminded that wisdom encompasses what we do and avoid doing. These verses offer a roadmap to cultivating a thriving and faithful marriage and a stern warning against the perils of straying from the path of righteousness. Pause… I hope you’ve gleaned valuable insights from these verses and are inspired to nurture strong, committed relationships that bring joy and fulfillment to your life’s journey. • Day 2184– The Gospel of John – 39- Death On A Cross – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 2184 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom The Gospel of John – 39 – Death On A Cross – Daily Wisdom Putnam Church Message – 11/13/2022 The Gospel of John – Part 5: Vindication Of The Word – Death on a Cross   Today we continue our series on the Good News according to John the Apostle. Last week, we focused on the three trials before the Roman officials, as Jesus was turned over for crucifixion by the High Priest and Sanhedrin. The Roman officials know that Jesus is not guilty of any crimes, and certainly of the death penalty, but they cave to the political pressures in a “Rush To Judgment.” Our scripture for today is John 19:17-37, starting on page 1684 in the Pew Bible. After a mockery of the six illegal trials, Jesus was turned over for crucifixion. Today’s message will focus on what crucifixion entails. Follow along as I read beginning in 19-17  The Crucifixion of Jesus So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. 17 Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle. 19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: Jesus of Nazareth, the king of the jews. 20 Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. 21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.” 22 Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.” 23 When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. 24 “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.” This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said, “They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.”[a]  PS 22:18 So this is what the soldiers did. 25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman,[b] here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home....

Welcome to Day 2183 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Wisdom Nuggets – Proverbs 5:1-14 – Daily Wisdom  Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2183 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2183 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of Wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.   In today’s Wisdom Nugget, I’m excited to embark on another journey through the rich tapestry of wisdom found in the book of Proverbs. We will delve into Proverbs 5:1-14 from the New Living Translation. So, grab your walking shoes, and let’s hit the trail together as we explore this passage’s lessons.   Let’s dive right in. Proverbs 5:1-14, says: “My son, pay attention to my wisdom; listen carefully to my wise counsel. Then you will show discernment, and your lips will express what you’ve learned. For the lips of an immoral woman are as sweet as honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil. But in the end, she is as bitter as poison, as dangerous as a double-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave. For she cares nothing about the path to life. She staggers down a crooked trail and doesn’t realize it. So now, my sons, listen to me. Never stray from what I am about to say: Stay away from her! Don’t go near the door of her house! If you do, you will lose your honor and will lose to merciless people all you have achieved. Strangers will consume your wealth, and someone else will enjoy the fruit of your labor. In the end, you will groan in anguish when disease consumes your body. You will say, ‘How I hated discipline! If only I had not ignored all the warnings! Oh, why didn’t I listen to my teachers? Why didn’t I pay attention to my instructors? I have come to the brink of utter ruin, and now I must face public disgrace.’”   Whew, there’s a lot to unpack here! This passage offers a powerful warning about the dangers of falling into the trap of temptation, particularly in the realm of immorality. Solomon, the author of Proverbs, is cautioning his listeners, especially the young men, to heed his advice and avoid the enticing but perilous path of unfaithfulness. The imagery here is vivid – comparing the alluring words of an immoral woman to sweet honey and smooth oil. But as appealing as they may seem, Solomon warns that indulging in these temptations can ultimately lead to bitterness, poison, and even death. It’s a stark reminder that the fleeting pleasures of momentary satisfaction can have severe and lasting consequences.   Now, the lesson doesn’t end there. Solomon isn’t just about instilling fear. He’s also emphasizing the importance of discipline and self-control. He urges his listeners to steer clear of situations that might lead them down the wrong path. Solomon’s advice to “stay away from her” is a call to exercise wisdom in avoiding places, circumstances, and relationships that could compromise one’s integrity. We can draw a parallel to our modern lives. Temptations are all around us, whether in our relationships, choices, or daily decisions. And just as Solomon advises, we, too, need to have the discernment to recognize the paths that lead to destruction and steer clear of them. It’s about safeguarding our honor, our achievements, and our well-being.
