And I am so thankful to the Close Friends. The experience has been humbling and bittersweet. We laughed together so much more than cried. We shared hard truths and so many opinions. Welcome to Episode 4 of  With Love & Butter, a chef’s podcast on dating & relationships and the food & drinks that get us through it. Today we’re talking about my last long term lover, the insane way things ended, and how I took charge of my own healing when it was clear no one would help me.

In 2018, I met the man I thought I’d love for the rest of my life. Then, not even 6 months into our relationship, I felt the weight of performance on my shoulders, a need to be a soft resting place always, and I wasn’t being watered in the ways that I so clearly needed. And I thought I’d be rewarded for my patience and understanding with loyalty and desire. Instead I got tears and lemon pepper lamentations. My parents set a tone for vocal, verbal, tangible love. Something you can cling to. Something you can keep tucked away like treasure. Likely because, all around my childhood home were post it notes, and printed notes and notes on napkins. I went on to share this love action with every lover until my last boyfriend, who met it with refusal. I was reintroduced to this part of my love language this year and it had me walking on sunshine. Today we’re talking about the dating phenomenon of “simping” and why I love it so much. I have come to think of myself as a wholesome hoochie. I curate so much of my life with a heavy sensual touch. It’s in my playlists, in my cooking, in my home spaces, color choices, outfits, the florals that are always in my home. Friends who have been to my home can speak to this.

Welcome to Episode 1 of With Love & Butter, a chef’s podcast on dating & relationships and the food & drinks that get us through it. 

I decided to start this podcast for two reasons. 1. Food is love, and I’ve been a participant in thousands of loving moments, both romantic or platonic, by way of my baking or cooking. and 2. I was able to prioritize self-discovery in my dating life, and always always always, food and drinks served as the backdrop. I want to share my re-imaginings of those menu items and make them my own. Many recipes will also be entirely of my own imagination as part of my chef/ lover girl journey.
