Colonel Manon Asselin enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1988 with the Naval Reserve.
She has served in various Naval Reserve units prior to joining the Regular Force. She has served in many different parts of the Navy and on many different tours, including the Adriatic sea under the NATO umbrella, as well as an exchange with the Royal New Zealand Navy. She left the Naval Reserve as a Master Seaman. She obtained her commission in June of 1998 (you will have to tell us later what that means).
Following her transfer, she served with 3 Health Services Operational Training Unit – Halifax. She held a number of positions in this role.
From September 2012 to July 2013 she was deployed as acting (left-tenant) Lieutenant-Colonel (curnel) with the NATO Training Mission – Afghanistan, Operation ATTENTION.
Promoted to the rank of (left-tenant) Lieutenant-Colonel (curnel) in 2014, she returned to Canadian Forces Health Services Headquarters Ottawa. She is currently the Commander of 4 Health Services Group.

Sara Austin is the Founder & CEO of Children First Canada. She has more than 20 years of global and Canadian experience advocating for children. Her work has taken her into the top circles of power in the United National, national governments, and boardrooms around the world. She led a global campaign that resulted in the adoption of the UN Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. This ground-breaking law allows kids or their advocates to hold governments accountable for violations of children’s rights. You’ll find her name on several “most powerful” lists and boards, and for good reason. Sara is married and has a son, and she is a cancer survivor.
Stephanie and Sara discuss careers in the not-for-profit/charitable sector. They also discuss Children First Canada and why it’s work is important right now, including life for kids during COVID-19. Sara is a talented intentional leader and we are so pleased we can share her career and life lessons with you!

Laura Payton is a professional communicator with more than 15 years of experience. She spent most of that time as a journalist on Parliament Hill, where she covered everything from the environment to international development.

Hannah Lichtenstein is best known as a soccer player. She played college soccer in the United States, and recently, in Sweden. While in Sweden, she had to come to terms with her own transition from athlete to regular human. It is during this time that she discovered that her passion for sport and storytelling could intersect in a powerful and transformative way. In May 2019, while living in Sweden, she began her podcast called, Run Along.
