  • How to Graciously Admit You Don't Know and Keep Your Credibility

As a woman leader you are constantly being sent the message to be more assertive and confident.

Confidence and assertiveness do have their place and most times I would encourage women leaders to embrace confidence and feel free to be assertive. However, never is this at the expense of honestly admitting when you don't know.

If you don't know the answer to a direct question, 'I don't know' is the beginning of a good conversation. But, balancing your confidence as a leader and owning up to a lack of knowledge or competence in a certain area can be tricky.

This episode covers how to graciously admit when you don't know and handle the situation in a way that engenders more confidence in you as a leader.

  • How to Keep Motivated and Moving Forward

Are there some days when you can't seem to muster the motivation to do what's right in front of you?

First, let me state that this happens to all of us. It is common.

But some people have figured out how to tap into sources of motivation when this occurs. And this ability to effectively self-motivate oneself distinguishes high-achieving professionals from everyone else.

And, to make it a little more complicated, motivation is a personal experience. What works for one person might not work for you.

This episode covers common strategies to consistently stay motivated that work for most people.

  • A Model for You to Process Change and Emotions

According to an article in the Harvard Business Review, every organization has an emotional culture, even if the culture is one of suppressing emotions. "By not only allowing emotions into the workplace, but also understanding and consciously shaping them, leaders can better motivate their employees."

To dive more deeply into this topic, I reached out to a colleague of mine, Joy Stickel. Joy is an accomplished and highly motivated global human resources leader with a deep passion for work in the talent and culture space. Her HR career spans over 25 years and extends across a range of industries including hospitality, high tech, life sciences, and pharma. She is currently the Executive Director of Talent Management and Development for Sumitomo Pharma.

  • How to Make Staying Organized Easy to Do

There's a French cooking term mise en place that means to set in place. It is a method of preparation taught all over the world that maximizes efficiency and reduces errors.

There are 5 steps to mise en place:

    1. Know your recipe — necessary ingredients, cookware, and baking times
    2. Prepare your ingredients — clean, chop, mince… whatever is required
    3. Arrange your ingredients — appropriate size bowls, positioned logically
    4. Prepare your workstation — set the oven temperature, clean the utensils
    5. Arrange your tools — similar logic applied to cookware and necessary equipment

This level of organization in advance, not only increases the chances of an optimal outcome for the recipe, it provides an easier and even enjoyable experience for the cook.

There's no scrambling around looking for that tool or ingredient. There's no disappointment after serving the dish realizing an ingredient has been missed or measured incorrectly.

This episode covers how staying organized at work increases your chances of optimal outcomes, and makes work easier and more enjoyable. Not only that, staying organized makes you look good in the process.

  • [Coaching] Do You Need to Name the Priority?

Are you pulled in so many directions you're busy all day, but when the day ends you don't feel like you accomplished much of anything?

Just like you, the women I coach are in demand. They have teams that want their attention, clients to serve, and tasks that need to get done. I've been there myself on many occasions.

There are different responses to this state of affairs. You might be in the camp of looking out at some point in the future. You convince yourself that once you get there, it will be a lot better. I did that for years and guess what? As that point in time got closer my calendar filled up and I had all new projects on my plate. This cycle perpetuated for a long time before I realized what I was doing.

You might be researching to find new strategies for time management and productivity and making a few strides but still needing some relief. Or, you might have started to give up hope that it will get any better.

Regardless of what camp you are in, you're going to get a lot out of this on-air coaching call. I'm chatting with Madison who is wearing many hats as her company is experiencing and gearing up for even more growth.

She and I talk through many of her responsibilities and strategize how to organize by priority and organize her calendar. We look at leveraging members of the team who are experienced and eager to do more.

And there's an added bonus, and what I believe may have been a pivotal point in our conversation. We also talked about what might be going on when a team member isn't changing their behavior after you've given them feedback.

If any of this is resonating with you, listen in. This is a good one!
