Women Today

Anne Swift, the President of the National Union of Teachers, visited us on Monday 9th January as part of her time on the Island looking at our schools system. She was extremely positive about what she saw - something that carried through to our podcast, when we asked her to give her thoughts on a survey by the Princes Trust saying young people are more anxious than ever.. Also speaking is Jess Egelnick, local Secretary of the NUT.

NB: The video that Jess mentions in this chat is the following, about Millennials in the Workplace, and is well worth watching:

As promised, our guest from Wednesday, Nigel Brown, reveals the REAL reason why he'll no longer eat sausage rolls... #NSFW...

We were joined by writer, poet and digital artist Janet Lees from 'The Hub' and Myra Gilbert, founder of the IOM Creative Network, who started our New Year shows talking about the power of journaling and writing for health and wellbeing. They stayed after the show to record this extra piece, giving us some hints and tips on how to begin..

On Friday, Jane Hall from the Manx Art Directory brought with her a very special guest - award winning ice sculptor Darren Jackson. Along with his wife, Stephanie Quayle, Darren is responsible for the Douglas Town Centre Christmas Ice Sculptures - and also the popular Loughtan Ram and Manannan Mac Lir giant creations that have been displayed around the Island. We asked him to stay behind after the show so we could grill him some more about his work.

You can find out more about Darren and his amazing sculptures: http://darrenjackson.org.uk/

On Thursday, Christy caught up with award winning violinist Tasmin Little OBE ahead of her performance with our very own Symphony Orchestra this weekend. We didn't have time to broadcast the entire interview so here it is in all it's wonder - Tasmin in a very inspiring person! Includes her words of encouragement for Ruth Keggin, who was our studio guest on the day and is on a quest to get her Grade One in violin in less than 6 weeks...

Women Today's guest on Monday was traveller, writer and humanitarian Trevor Gibbs. He had SO many wonderful stories that we ran out of time on the show, so kept him back to record some extra stuff. Little did we know the drama he would reveal...!
