July 13, 2018The Horse Show: S3E6 - Adrienne Steinlicht is Chasing Her DreamsConnecticut native Adrienne Sternlicht, 25, has watched her US rankings climb to no 6 and elevate her to the short list for the FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon, NC this fall. Trained by McLain Ward, Adrienne’s ‘once in a lifetime’ partner is the 10 year old mare Cristalline; a ride she acquired from Australian Chris Chugg two years ago. Together they notched up a career highlight by winning a 1.50m class at the Knokke CSI5* earlier this month. Adrienne is campaigning her three top horses in Europe this summer; the other two being Toulago and Fantast who are also on form and raising Adrienne’s profile as she prepares for the final USEF Observation Trial in Dublin before heading back to the States. Still riding as an amateur Adrienne graduated from Brown University and has other goals outside of the show jumping arena which she shares with us. And we hear how she prepares mentally and physically for big competitions. Chris Stafford caught up with Adrienne at her base in Belgium before she heads to the Longines CSI Ascona in Switzerland.WiSP Sports Radio is brought to you by Hyland's Earache Drops. For show notes and related links for this episode click HERE.For more conversations from the world of women’s sport including articles, blogs, videos and podcast visit wispsports.com. July 09, 2018Moovin & Groovin: S1E3 - Yoga for CyclistsClaire Deacon guides us through some of the best yoga poses for cyclists, explaining that cycling is one of the few activities in which muscles contract concentrically (so, while shortening), rather than eccentrically (while lengthening). The repetitive motion in peddling can cause the muscle fibres to shorten - this is also known as 'adaptive muscle shortening.' This will not only cause an imbalance in your muscles and put you at risk of injury, but it can really jeopardise your posture too. Shortened muscles can impact your ability, comfort, aerodynamics and eventually lead to injury. Most cycling injuries are caused by tight muscles or a limited range of motion. By targeted stretching you can lengthen your muscles, unlock your full potential and extend the years you can cycle. Claire talks us through some yoga poses that will help you as a cyclist. There are images of all the poses that Claire talks about in the show notes with this episode on our website.WiSP Sports Radio is brought to you by Hyland's Earache Drops. For show notes and related links for this episode click HERE.For more conversations from the world of women’s sport including articles, blogs, videos and podcast visit wispsports.com.
