With a shiny new Criterion Box Set getting released and on the heels of the “theatrical” runs of some new restorations, we look at Wong Kar-Wai’s film festival run and his work more generally. We have already talked HAPPY TOGETHER, so we focus in mostly on CHUNGKING EXPRESS, IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE, and 2046, with some brief FALLEN ANGELS talk and some references to his earlier movies as well. Use of color, focus in on relationships, and his depiction of time and place are all on the docket as we dive into the wonderful world of Wong.
