This is #40 of 52 episodes for 2021! We are just about at the end of the year – doesn't really feel like yet another year has just about passed us by – thought it has been a very busy past year for us.

I hope everyone is ready for Halloween! In my opinion, it is the best holiday of the entire year. Way better than anything else – free candy, and literally the most trusting night of the year! What other night do people willingly allow complete strangers to knock on their doors, and accept things from complete strangers? It's essentially offering up and accepting gifts with all the people in your area for hours at a time. Plus, there is the added bonus of getting to dress up.

Remember to take some time for yourself, even on Halloween! Block a little time out of your day to just chill without any sort of media. It will help a lot with the whirl wind of holiday craziness that is about to come round.

This is #39 of 52 episodes for 2021! Starting to get exciting, what with Halloween drawing nearer and nearer – and if the old wives tales are to be believed, it looks like we will be having a rather chilly winter: The spiders are making HUGE webs with REALLY thick spider silk! That is supposed to mean the upcoming winter is gonna be really cold. There's another saying about squirrels going nuts with foraging – but I really haven't noticed anything different this year regarding squirrels… though I did come across this picture of a fella who had this squirrel stashing nuts in his car, and the squirrel had managed to completely fill up the entire inside of his car. That was kind of entertaining.

Remember: even when things are getting exciting and fun, you still need to give yourself a break! Too much of anything, even a good time, can be exhausting and have some negative effects on you! Be sure and get that sleep, down time, and that alone time. All of which can be done more easily without the constant barrage of any of that social media stuffs out there! It does wonders for the soul!

Apple quietly fixes zero-day flaw in IOS 15.0.2, but didn't credit its finder – Denis Tokarev found this vulnerability 7 months before the release, and when he contacted Apple he was asked to keep the interaction on the topic confidential – and then was not given the credit for finding the issue. This is #38 of 52 episodes for 2021! The weather is cooler, and I already find myself in the kitchen waaayyyyy more! Partially to help heat the house, but also because it's just that time of year. There is a pumpkin recipe I saw years ago that I still want to try – you make a soup inside of a pumpkin by putting everything into the hollowed out pumpkin, then baking the pumpkin. I don't remember everything you do, but that was the gist of it – maybe I will actually get around to it this year!

I personally think that everyone should try to get into the kitchen at least once a week about this time of year, drag the kids in, and go nuts with your ingredients! Make goodies and try new recipes out! When you get going in the kitchen, and the kids are there, it always leads to some amazing conversations. Even better, make sure there is no music or anything, and start singing fun songs, (however horribly!), with the kids while cooking! Cooking and baking together can lead to some amazing times of fun and enjoyment.

If baking and cooking is just not your thing, see if you can teach your kids how to do cats cradle. We all knew it as kids ourselves, I'll bet that there are not many kids who know how to do that these days! Find the time to sit and chat and just enjoy each others company – whether it's kids or friends or family in general. It feels pretty awesome, and really helps with the whole emotional and mental health. Those dishes can wait. 😉

This is #37 of 52 episodes for 2021! Add the numbers 37, 52, and 2021 together and you get 4 – which is neat because we are heading into the 4th season of the year. I hope that everyone is all prepped up for winter! Be sure to start pulling out those sweaters and heavy coats and those lovely rubber boots! After such an amazing summer, we are almost certain to have a really cold winter – seems to be that way every time.

Remember to pull yourself off of the media for at least an hour a day – get those kids off too before they start getting stuck on the idea of what they want for X-mas before we have even passed Halloween! Also, removal of media is always sure to get true conversation going.

This is #36 of 52 episodes for 2021! Can you smell the coming of Halloween??? I can! Fall always smells like candles, leaves, and wood smoke.

Not sure what it is, but I have been listening to the music of my teens a lot lately – and I realized, a lot of it actually has some pretty good messages in there. It also has some really good sound to it! Mind you, the music of my teens ranges from Cherry Poppin Daddies, to The Beatles. Soooo… there's quite of bit in between – but I was thinking that maybe everyone should take about a week or so, and rediscover the music of their teens/childhood!

I think it could be a great idea to go down the rabbit hole of rediscovering your music from years abound – I have found that it has nearly drowned me in content and hilarity as I remember singing HORRIBLY to this song or that with friends, or developing film to System of a Down blaring. Sometimes I think we need to be reminded of the carefree version of ourselves, so that we can move forward a little lighter.

Also, we can (legally) drink beer to the same songs – and it's way better beer this time around!

This is #35 of 52 episodes for 2021! And here on the Island, Autumn is officially here!! I can smell it in the air – cold has a very particular smell when it is rolling down from the mountains I find. Very different from the flat lands over in Alberta.

I am very much looking forward to Halloween, and so are my kids! They are already getting their costumes together. Just remember that you need to keep yourself warm in the coming cold, but don't overdo it to the point where you start overheating outside – sweating in the cold is one of the worst things you can do for yourself. Almost guaranteed to get you sick if you are spending a while out there in the cold when it's here fully.

Hopefully everyone is getting outside to enjoy the bit of the last sunshine before it goes away for about 6 months! Remember to turn off that media for about an hour every day! And don't try and ‘cheat' by just throwing on a TV show – trust me, you are still being ‘attacked' in the brain meats by TV shows and/or movies in much the same way as when you listen to the news. Throw on some music and dance around, listen to or read a book! Go listen to the sound of nature and see if you can hear the call of the little known ‘snipe bird'. It could happen…

This is #34 of 52 episodes for 2021! Here on the Island the rain has finally made an appearance – and of course, I was sleeping in a tent I created out of a nice tarp – and woke up with rivulets of water running onto my face at 4 am. Managed to fix the tent so that didn't happen anymore – turns out, that design they have for tents where there is an inside and an outside tarp? Yea… that's for a reason. And now I know this…

So now that the rain is here, be sure to get yourself out on the nicer days inbetween the icky days at the very least!! If you find that you can't, or that there are too many icky days – maybe pick up baking and cooking! Start setting yourself up with snacks for the long winter ahead by making things that will last. Snacks are ALWAYS awesome on winter days!

And while you are doing that, turn on commercial free music, dance to the super silly songs with kids if they are around, and just have fun! If you spend about an hour a day having super silly fun, even during the darkest of the rainy days, I'll bet you a beer that you will find it helps with your general outlook.

Though we wanted to make sure that there is something here for our listeners and viewers! Make sure you know we haven't forgotten about you.

Canadian VPN provider Windscribe admits seized Ukrainian servers weren’t encrypted – Windscribe, a Canadian-based VPN provider, says it realized two of its servers that were seized last year by Ukrainian authorities were unencrypted, leaving open the possibility that, at least temporarily, someone could have accessed traffic. Since discovering the incident earlier this month the company has been overhauling its infrastructure to improve security.

Rejection of ‘WP' Prefix Plugins – Worries over the possible abuse of the the TradeMark, WordPress is experimenting with refusing plugin submissions with the ‘WP' prefix.

Further discussion on Gutenberg Project lead Matias Ventura on the Barrier to Entry – I seem to have missed the first part of the article last week, though from what I am getting from this article, there is a barrier on entering into the WordPress world. And Gutenberg is considered part of this barrier. Interesting article, worth your time!

Ambers' Rant:

This is #31 of 52 episodes for 2021. Its Episode 524, and we seem to be having another heatwave rolling over us! Not NEARLY as bad as the last one luckily. We are only supposed to be expecting about 30 vs the 42 it got up to last time. I hope everyone out there will keep themselves hydrated! Especially if you are going to get yourself into the outdoors to enjoy this last burst of heat before the autumn winds come to chill us to our bones.

Sun or shine, we will be here to give you the gems and the trash of the plugins out there, and a little bit of news! I would love to hear from you, our listeners! And, if anyone would like to throw up their own rant here in my place, I would be happy to read it out!

Remember to find yourself a little time to chill every day! Whether its classical music and a glass of wine, or biking through the hills at break neck speeds, we ALL need a break from the world and its craziness, and we all benefit from turning off that media for about an hour a day.

Rinse and repeat as often as needed.

(Mer's take: the Trojan named FlyTrap by the Zimperium Researchers, has been able to spread through ‘Social Media Hijacking, 3rd party app stores, and Sideloaded Applications' – since march. They are doing this through things like FB, offering ‘Netflix Coupons' and ‘Google AdWords coupons', getting people to click and offer up their info.)
