    Multi Faceted WordPress Plugins

WP Recipe Maker and Pro Version, Daily Bible Verse, Say what?, Heading with Description Elementor Widget, WP Hide Notifications Updates and Warnings, WPFront Notification Bar……. and ClassicPress options on Episode 567.
    John's Intro:
This is a value for value show and I look forward to everyone providing some value back.
Before I get started, you will want to hang around to the end of the show for our Q & A segment with Amber…. and to those listening on the podcast, you may want to check out the YouTube version which has some great discussions before the show starts…
    Amber's Rant:
This is #26 of 52 episodes for 2022!
I think I was blinded today when I got up and started working – we have sunshine on the Wet Coast! If you have little amounts of sunshine like we do, make certain that you get outside and take full advantage of it when it's there!!
Drag the kids out, drag your friends out, go have a picnic or something, enjoy and get that vitamin D! Remember to ditch the socials while you're out, and you will find you feel waaaayyyyy better when you get home!
    Go be a kid.
We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.
    News this week:
WordPress Vulnerability Report – June 22, 2022 – There is a decent sized list today for the plugins to worry about – though be sure to check the ‘fixed plugins' too. I noticed that Gravity PDF is on the ‘fixed' list this week.
Some I recognize on the worrisome plugins this week: Pricing Deals for WooCommerce, Comment License, Custom Popup Builder, Rename wp-login.php, WordPress Team Manager – this is just a few, be sure to have a look at the list this week for both your site and your clients sites.
WordPress.org forces security update for critical Ninja Forms Vulnerability – Last week Ninja Form users got a forced update for a PHP object injection vulnerability – this made it possible to be remotely exploited without anyone needing authentication of any kind. Oddly enough, Ninja Forms did not post about his update on its blog or social media accounts or anything…
If you use Ninja Forms and do not allow auto updates, be sure to head into yours and your clients sites to update in short order.
WordPress.org strongly urges Theme Authors to switch to locally hosted webfonts – The reason for this is because of the recent German court case, which fined a website owner for biolating the GDPR by using Google-Hosted webfonts. The Themes Team is also considering banning remotely hosted web fonts moving forward, though this is still being discussed. Core contributors are now working on updating all the default themes from Twenty Twelbe through Twenty Seventeen to use locally hosted webfonts. This could affect your sites if you use Google WebFonts, so be aware of this.

    Amber's Rant:
This is #25 of 52 episodes for 2022!
Episode 566 – only 100 more episodes to go before we get to 666! That should be an entertaining episode I am sure. There are so many numerology things around 666, it's all very interesting!
We have had mainly rain again this last week here on the wet coast, though that hasn't stopped us from getting outside! I think my kids like it best when it is raining out, because they get hot chocolate when they come back in. Then again, that is also kind of why I like it best when it's raining too – you really just can't go wrong with hot chocolate!
Hopefully everyone out there is managing to get outside at least a little, some good time without the socials, and some awesome time with friends and family! Remember – you're never too old to go splashing through puddles, then go home for hot chocolate.
    Go be a kid.
We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.
    News this week:
WordPress Vulnerability Report – June 15, 2022 – Only a few to worry about this week! Gallery Bank, Copify, Toolbar To Share. Be sure to check yours and your clients sites for these plugins, and to keep an eye on the ‘okay' list so you know when you can put them back into service!
Elementor acquires Strattic – Strattic is a static and headless WordPress hosting company. A little surprising to me that Elementor has grabbed this up, though it seems to be a good investment on their part since Strattic has been an Elementor supporter since early on! Pretty sure that not much will change with this acquisition.
WordPress 6.1 to focus on refining full-site editing – Next phase collaboration and multilingual features anticipated in 2023-2025. This could be pretty awesome, and there are some video demos put up through Twitter via Gutenberg lead architect Matias Ventura! The whole thing seems pretty cool, with easier to build patterns, custom post types, block types, more intuitive experience locking patterns and managing saved patterns – all sounding like fantastic things to come!
Gutenberg Editor now in testing on Tumblr and Day One Web Apps – Honestly, I had never heard of Day One Web Apps until this article. This actually surprised me a little, I thought that Gutenberg was a WordPress only kind of thing, though apparently during the Q&A segment in 2021 at the State of the Word,

    Preying on WordPress Plugins

    John's Intro:
This is a value for value show and I look forward to everyone providing some value back.
Before I get started, you will want to hang around to the end of the show for our Q & A segment with Amber…. and to those listening on the podcast, you may want to check out the YouTube version which has some great discussions before the show starts…
    Amber's Rant:
This is #24 of 52 episodes for 2022!
It seems that the warmth has arrived here on the West Coast finally! Although it's really wet… I don't think I have ever really experienced more than a short sprinkling at a time of warm rain here on the Island, but we have had a lot of it recently! Kinda cool!
I hope everyone out there is remembering to get outside, rain or shine, to at least get a little exercise! Get out there and be totally silly with the kids or your friends, stomp in puddles like when you were a kid – believe it or not, it's absolutely exhilarating and as much fun as playing DND! Also, nothing raises your spirits like being a kid for a while.
    Go be a kid.
We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.
    News this week:
WordPress Vulnerability Report – June 8, 2022 – Great long list of fixes for plugins this week! For the vulnerable plugins, there is also, unfortunately, a long list. A few that caught my eye are: MailPress, WP Sentry, Tiny Contact Form, Social Share Buttons by Supsystic, Mini Oranges Limit Login Attempts and their Malware Scanner – there are a lot. And I know I recognize quite a few this week, so be sure to check your and your clients sites!
WP Engine acquires Delicious Brains Plugins – Including the popular developer favourite Advanced Custom Fields.
    The Plugins bought are:
    Advanced Custom Fields,
    WP Migrate
    WP Offload Media
    WP Offload SES
    Better Search Replace
I am really not overly happy about this; I love Delicious Brains, I love the way they do things and the way they make things and the way they themselves work. WP Engine is not Delicious Brains. Things will change, and usually when I love a plugin it seems, and they sell it off, everything I love about the plugin tends to vanish. >< HOPEfully this is not the case here, and my fears are in vane!
Groundhogg acquires HollerBox, a powerful popup and Lead Generation WordPress Plugin! – Hollerbox has been bought, hopefully they treat this plugin with the love and respect it needs to continue being loved by the users!
InstaWP gets seed funding from Automatic – InstaWP, initially thought to be a disposable plugin, is meant to make it much easier to create a WordPress site without the work of doing it yourself. Trying to make it easier for everyone – personally I hope it does not work overly well otherwise the likes of us will be put...

    Amber's Rant:
This is #23 of 52 episodes for 2022!
I hope everyone out there is doing well and keeping healthy – remember, just because the cold is starting to go away finally, that doesn't mean you should stop taking your vitamin C. Allergy season and spring time colds are upon us – and they suck.
Also, sunshine is awesome! If you can, find some time to head out into the sunshine with friends and family! Always good for the heart and soul!

(Winter is coming from Game of Thrones spoof for those who don't get it like my husband)
We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.
    News this week:
WordPress Vulnerability Report – June 1, 2022 – This list for this week seems to have lesser known plugins. Some of the ones that look familiar to me are Inline Google Maps, CaPa Protect, WPlite, Cross-Linker. There are more, be sure to check it out. No Theme vulnerabilities this week.
WordPress turns 19 – WooHoo! WordPress can legally buy some booze now! This article talks about the history of WordPress and the changes that have come over time to bring it to where it is now.
Gutenberg 13.3 introduces experimental table of contents block – This seems to be designed for long form content. It automatically detects heading blocks within the content and will display them with anchor links that jump to each section. Really cool!
Community team removed red tape from regional WordCamp Applications – The red tape being talked about here refers to the proposal writings, which will no longer need to be written, and you can directly apply to organize a camp for your region using the regular WordCamp application form. This will make it easier to bring WordCamps to your area!
LottieFiles releases official WordPress Plugin – LottiFiles is a company that hosts thousands of Lottie animations, and helps designers create and test their animations. This may be something you will want to check out if this is your area of expertise!
Backdoor baked into premium school management plugin for WordPress – This is a little bit older of an article, though I have only just now seen it.

  • Spinning Up New Tracks of WordPress Plugins
The Show this week is not the usual show as Amber is sick today and I will just be discussing things in the WordPress world.
    News this week:

    https://masterwp.com/wordpress-needs-to-start-thinking-like-a-platform-again/
what a great quote from this article ” My current theory is that WordPress market share is falling because WooCommerce extensions are being priced by the same people who sell insulin and prescription drugs in America. “

WordPress Vulnerability Report – May 25, 2022 – This weeks Plugin list is really quite hefty, you will want to go through the list and read it for yourself. There is only one WordPress Theme's to worry about: Jupiter & JupiterX

WordPress.com announces new starter plan for $5/month – This new $5/m plan includes a custom domain name, 6GB storage, and the ability to use payment collection blocks (Donations Form, Premium Content, and Payment Button.) This is to bridge the gap between the free plan and the $15/month plan.

Open Source Initiative launches News Blog in WordPress – According to Stefano Maffulli, the Executive Director of Open Source Initiative, “One of the main objectives for OSI in 2022 is to reinforce our communication channels.” The improvements include the perception of OSI, a regular publishing schedule, and a content plan.

WordPress 6.0 ‘Arturo' adds more templates and patterns, style switching, and Block Locking UI – There is a new News Block, improved support for preserving unrecognized content in the editor, now block style transformation options, new border controls –  and a lot more. Very exciting, hopefully it will all work as planned!

WP Tavern Is Hiring – If anyone out there is interested, they are hiring! Check them out if you would like to join!

The return of Gopher: pre-web hypertext service is still around – Did you know you can still use Gopher Space with Firefox? Just re-enable it with the extensions Overbite and Underbite. You can also re-enable this in Chrome through the extension Burrow – sometimes. There is even a modern browser dedicated to Gopher space called Gophi.

Before I get started, you will want to hang around to the end of the show for our Q & A segment with Amber…. and to those listening on the podcast, you may want to check out the YouTube version which has some great discussions before the show starts…
    Amber's Rant:
This is #22 of 52 episodes for 2022! There are so many 2's for this episode! Episode 562, 22nd show of 52 shows for the year, year 2022, SO MANY 2's!
Once again, I shall bring a little info forward on numerology: 2 represents both grace and power, is cooperative, always aiming to bring peace and balance back to a relationship or situation. Two is also very sensitive, and is considered to be the strongest representation of intuition of all the numbers. The number also represents balance – perhaps today will be a well balanced day!
Remember to balance your work and social life, and to balance your life between socials, news, family and friends! Two is a great number to keep in mind when thinking about your plans for the weekend.
Winter is leaving… Summer is coming…
(Winter is coming from Game of Thrones spoof for those who don't get it like my husband)
We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.
    News this week:
WordPress Vulnerability Report – May 18, 2022 – The list of plugins to worry about is nice and short this week, here are a few that I think are easily recognizable: Donations, QP Fundraising Donation and Crowdfunding Platform, LiveSync for WordPress, Five Minute Webshop.
There are also 2 WordPress Themes to be aware of: Discy, and Ask Me. Be sure to keep an eye on these and regularly update.
Hackers are exploiting WordPress tools to hawk scams – As of May 12, cybersecurity research has disclosed a massive campaign that's responsible for injecting malicious JavaScript code into compromised WordPress websites that redirects visitors to scam pages and other malicious websites to generate illegitimate traffic. The common issue shared: malicious JavaScript had been injected within their website's files and the database, including legitimate core WordPress files. The JavaScript is activated on every page load, allowing the attacker to redirect the website visitors to a destination of their choice.
Software Freedom Conservancy receives court ruling affirming GPL as both copyright license and contractual agreement – The Software Freedom Conservancy (SFC), a non-profit that provides infrastructure support for free and open source software projects, has received a favourable ruling in its ‘right to repair lawsuit against Vizio', an American TV manufacturer. Before I get started, you will want to hang around to the end of the show for our Q & A segment with Amber…. and to those listening on the podcast, you may want to check out the YouTube version which has some great discussions before the show starts…
    Amber's Rant:
This is #20 of 52 episodes for 2022! Hello and good day to all and to all a grand day! Hopefully it's sunny out there for some of you who listen to us – I honestly feel a bit like I'm back in Seattle – it NEVER gets sunshine there!
Although lots of rain is good the for fish, so that's something. I hope everyone is remembering to find time to get outside, and time to spend with friends and family! Personally, I've got a D & D game going with some friends and my oldest daughter every other week – total highlight of each month are those games! And of course, we all get rid of our phones and don't bother with the socials while we are playing, 'cause that helps with healthy brain meats.
May you, my friends, find a way to spend time humanizing with those you like as well.
Winter is leaving… Summer is coming…
(Winter is coming from Game of Thrones spoof for those who don't get it like my husband)
We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.
    News this week:
WordPress Vulnerability Report – May 11, 2022 – There's a few to look at this week for ‘no known fix' – and a lot that are on the ‘patched' list as well!
A few from the No Known Fix List you might recognize: Amazon Link, IMDB info box, Quotes llama, BannerMan, Easy FAQ with Expanding Text. Be sure to check this list against your site!
WPSiteSync shuts down, commercial extensions now available on GitHub – WPSiteSync is a content syncing plugin from DesktopServer, and they have now discontinued support for its free, core plugin and commercial extensions. This allows users to sync specific content like posts and pages, without having to migrate the entire database. It's been 9 months since the last update, and more than a year since the last release. For those who use this plugin, I would suggest looking for a good replacement.
WordPress community attributes declining market share to performance issues, increased complexity, and the lagging full-site editing project – I kind of agree with this. WordPress does seem like it's getting more complex, and the old hands are basically having to start at the beginning again to learn the new full site editing tools in a whole new way. There is a lot of talk about this in the WordPress community in places across the various platforms. I think that is a good thing – perhaps there will be no more removal of choices…

This is #20 of 52 episodes for 2022!
I'm a day late but: MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU!! Totally wore one of my many Star Wars shirts yesterday – it got a bunch of baking stuff on it, but it served its purpose.
Here on the Wet Coast, we have rain… again… though it IS getting warmer! We can open our windows and leave them open for longer than half an hour now! Tis very exciting. Remember to stay away from the socials, get some sunshine if it's showing its face in your area, maybe go out and play some Frisbee or something! Human interaction and exercise are a great pairing for peace within the brain meats!
Winter is leaving… Summer is coming…
(Instead of ‘winter is coming' – for those who don't get the reference like my partner, it's from Game of Thrones)
We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.
    News this week:
WordPress Vulnerability Report – May 4, 2022 (May the 4th be with you!) – There are a few plugins to think about this week, the ones I recognize most easily are: WP Subscribe, WP Invoice, Vertical scroll recent post, Turn off all comments, Wp Contacts manager, Domain Replace, and Hermit. Actually I don't think I do recognize Hermit – though I like the name. Now I want to go and check it out – I'll wait to see if it gets fixed though.
Remember to check the list of fixes for this week as well, see if any plugins you have deactivated are on the list, and be sure to update!
James Kemp acquires ReplyBox – ReplyBox is a privacy-focused comment system originally launched in 2018. It seems they were having some issues getting a strong foothold in the WordPress ecosystem, so Kemp offered to buy it. If any of our listeners currently use this, it doesn't seem like they are planning on changing the name, though Kemp is currently working on a few upgrades to release that include a lot of requests from users. If I hear about a name change or anything, I will let you know!

    Amber's Rant:
This is #19 of 52 episodes for 2022! Hope everyone got their taxes done – I know it's not fun, but it's needed. And remember, once your finished adulting, head out and get yourself a treat for doing so well at playing adult! Chores done, go play.
Do this with a friend and it makes the whole experience way more fun! Ice cream, or cookies, or fruit and yogurt, or a mocha thingy – any kind of awesome treat, and be sure to remove the socials and the media from the entire experience. It adds to the fun. Enjoy!
Rinse and repeat as often as needed.
We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.
    News this week:
WordPress Vulnerability Report – April 27, 2022 – This weeks plugins to look at are a few, the more popular ones being: Social Stickers, Advanced Uploader, Custom Tiny MCW Shortcode Button, th23 Social, WPC Smart Wishlist for WooCommerce.
There is also one theme that has since been patched, though be sure to update shortly! Fusion Builder.
MemberPress Plugin is locking users out after support license expires – MemberPress is a popular membership plugin for WordPress, though they have started locking users out of the plugins admin if they do not renew their subscriptions. WordPress subreddit lit up this last week with reports about it. This plugin does not have a free version that you can ‘scale down' to, and although the membership only costs $179 per year for one site, the fact that it now locks you out is kind of an issue for a lot of people, as cutting off access to the plugin's admin screens leaves users without the ability to manage the membership functions of their sites if their subscriptions lapse – so they can't get refunds, add new members, manage memberships, site activations, or do any other actions one can only do through the admin screen.
A pared back web font API may land in WordPress 6.0 … Or not… – The web font API was originally set to come in with WordPress 5.9, then it was shunted down to 6.0, and it is starting to look like it is going to be shunted yet again. Another feature that appears to have been shunted down the line, is ‘Post Author Name Block'. The Beta 1 is out, so you can go and play around with it to see for yourself how the features are doing.

    Amber's Rant:
This is #18 of 52 episodes for 2022!
I hope everyone had a fantastic Easter long weekend! We had a pretty decent one, though one of my daughters came down with a stomach bug – it is the time of year when people who are sensitive to weather changes will be feeling a bit under the weather; this goes for people with allergies as well. Be sure to stock up on peppermint and chamomile teas! Also if you throw some Bay Leaves into the tea as well it will add loads of vitamin C!
Tea's are great, and having tea with kids and family can be a great way to wind down, or get ready for the day! Spending a little time every day with your family can go a long way. Remember, ditch the media while spending time with family and/or friends! Helps the brain meats!

WordPress Vulnerability Report – April 20, 2022 – There are a LOT of fixes this week! Be sure to check these out, especially if you use plugins from Cool Plugins, they seem to have fixed a lot of bugs this past week.
Plugins to worry about this week are not so many; WP Maintenance, WP Social Buttons, Admin Menu Editor, Product Filter For WooCommerce Product, WP Video Gallery – these are most of them, there are a few more, be sure to check these out!
DuckDuckGo and Brave move to Bypass Google AMP pages by default – On April 19th, both DuckDuckGo and Brave browsers announced that they will be bypassing Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) in favor of serving publishers' content on the original URL. This is called ‘De-AMP' by Brave; how this works is: ‘where it's not possible to rewrite the URLS, the browser will watch as pages are fetched and redirect users, while preventing AMP code from being loaded and executed.' Currently available in the Beta and Nightly versions.
WooCommerce plans to bring full-site editing support to single product templates – WooCommerce still has the gap in their full-site editing support where it is not yet possible to use the full-site editing to customize every aspect of the store; but they are moving to close that gap with the latest features! This is still in its early stages, though you can try everything out in the block themes!
