This is a value for value show and I look forward to everyone providing some value back.

    Amber's Rant:
This is #17 of 52 episodes for 2022!
I hope everyone is looking forward to Easter! I've always been interested in Ester, who I understand is the original Goddess of Easter. She is a very interesting character, and required a lot of worship – specifically from young men – and now we eat chocolate and eggs and go a-hunting for the multi coloured eggs!
I've called April the month of all seasons here on the Island for years 'cause we really never know what the next day will bring to us… but hopefully it turns out pretty and not snowing on Easter weekend for us! And may the sun shine and the North Wind calm itself for all our listeners out there as well!
As always, gotta remind everyone to put the media aside and spend some time with family and friends! This weekend is a perfect excuse to remove thyself and enjoy!

    News this week:
Critical Vulnerability Fixed in Elementor Plugin Version 3.6.3 – The most recently released version of Elementor has a fix to a vulnerability that is allowing any authenticated user, regardless of their authorization, to change the site title, site logo, change the theme to Elementor's theme, and worst of all, upload arbitrary files to the site. This article goes through explaining how this vulnerability exists, how it works, and about the patch. They note a few times that they are still gathering information about this vulnerability.
WordPress Vulnerability Report – April 13, 2022 – There are a lot of plugins with issues to look at this week; most of the plugins on the list are Wbcom Designs Plugins – BuddyPress – Activity Social Share, Create Group Type, Ads, Search… It appears that Wbcom Designs Plugins has been working hard to fix some vulnerabilities. Be aware if you use Wbcom Designs Plugins – BuddyPress; some of the plugins are in the ‘fixed' list above, so be sure if you use these guys to check back every day to see what has been fixed and what has not – but do also keep an eye out for any other plugins you may be using.

I hope that everyone is getting some decent sun! Here on the Wet Coast we have had a string of beautifully rainy days, a tad bit of wind trying to knock out our power – just the right kind of weather for our little island! That's not to say that we haven't had some really nice days over the past week though. We got a decent amount of sun for a few days in a row, though the wind was a little chilly.
Spring Storms are a great time to get yourself started on that Spring Cleaning – after all, you don't want to head out into that – and if the power goes out you have no excuse to stop! ‘Cause that's what everyone wants to do really… right?
Don't forget to drop the media for a while every week! It helps with sleep – I swear!

    News this week:
WordPress Vulnerability Report – April 6, 2022 – There is quite the list today, so I am only going to name off the ones most easily recognizable. Be sure to give this a list a look over, and to keep an eye out for updates for these plugins that are currently set as ‘no known fix'.
ULeak Security & Monitoring, Nimble Page Builder, Clipr, Master Elements, Users Ultra, Testimonial Slider. There are a lot more, keep an eye out and remember to update!
WordPress.com increases Traffic and Storage Limits on new plans after overwhelmingly negative feedback on initial rollout – WordPress.com rolled out a pricing change on April 1, though they did not officially announce it until yesterday (April 5). The free plan's back storage and traffic limits were severely pared back, alarming and frustrating a lot of users who for years have considered WordPress.com their ‘go-to' platform for simple blogging. On April 1, the change to the plans was a switch from 5 options to 2, Free and Pro. In the Free plan, they initially capped traffic at 10k visits, 100k visits on Pro, and limited free users to 500MB of storage. This caused an uproar and a flooding in of negative feedback.
The change initiated yesterday has removed the traffic cap entirely from both Free and Pro, and have raised the free storage on the Free plan to 1GB.
WP Migrate DB has rebranded to WP Migrate – A very good thing to know if you are looking for this plugin, or if you use this plugin and wind up wondering what happened to the name.

    Amber's Rant:
This is #15 of 52 episodes for 2022! So many 5's today! 5 is an interesting number in numerology – 5 is a master of change, able to go with the flow and adapt itself to thrive in different environments and social situations. People with the life-path number 5 tend to have a hard time settling down or sticking to routine, as people with 5 tend to crave new, fresh experiences – once something feels like routine these people tend to move on.
On another note – happy early April Fools! I think we should really just call it Loki Day – generally my youngest sets up about 20 different little harmless pranks at this time of year, so I can't help but wonder what she will do this year! I hope everyone has a lot of fun this year, and that you are able to get outside and enjoy the early Spring weather!

WordPress Vulnerability Report – March 30, 2022 – Only 7 to worry about this week – don't forget to go through this list each week to see if a plugin you have deactivated in the past has been patched and is good to go now!
EXMAGE, Good & Bad Comments, Thank me Later, Page Security & Membership, Autolinks, Amministrazione Aperta, Ad Injection. If you have these in your site, deactivate and keep an eye out for updates!
Performance Team proposes enabling WebP by default in WordPress 6.0 – If this proposal is approved, version 6.0 will generate WebP images by default for new JPEG uploads and will use WebP images by default for website content. I could see this being very useful, as WordPress would auto convert JPEG uploads to the WebP in the background, and use them on your website.
Text Selection across multiple blocks is coming to WordPress – Ella van Durpe merged a feature into Gutenberg plugin, allowing users to select and modify text across multiple rich text blocks. This should land in 13.0 of the plugin, and WordPress 6.0 in May. I'll bet this will make life easier across the board for Gutenberg users!

    Amber's Rant:
This is #14 of 52 episodes for 2022! Spring is in the air! For those of you who live on the ‘Wet Coast', this means warmer rain! Woot! And for those of you who live inland, I THINK this means that you will now have less snow – not entirely sure since I have pretty well spent my entire life on one coast or another…
Either way, it's time for the spring cleaning to start kicking in where we all start opening our windows and letting in the fresh air, start going though everything that has built up over the winter and chucking things out, passing stuff along – remember to throw on some awesome tunes and spend the time with family and friends. I challenge everyone to try and make someone you know and love laugh so hard they feel like they are going to pee themselves!!

WordPress Community Team Reconsiders Guidelines for In-Person Regional WordCamps – Community Team Representative Hari Shanker is looking for feedback on the discussion about in-person regional events before April 4, 2022. The organizers are discussing relaxing a number of guidelines, including some for regional online WordCamps in order to help keep communities connected. If you are interested, follow the link above and join in on the conversation!
Block accidental edits of shared content with the Lock Reusable Blocks Plugin – WP Tavern does a great job going through this new plugin created; it allows users to group one or more blocks in the post editor, save them, and reuse anywhere blocks are supported. Very neat, I can see how this will be very useful in groups working on the same thing!
The Archeo WordPress Theme blends Mayan History with Magazine-Style Block Patterns – I think this is so cool! I personally love history, and I love seeing it come to life like this!! Worth checking out if you were ever into the history magazines growing up.

    Amber's Rant:
This is #13 of 52 episodes for 2022! So many people think of 13 as an unlucky number, though honestly I have always loved this number! 13 has been skipped in buildings and avoided on ships for many years, though it seems to be happening less these days. Friday the 13th has a bad wrap, though if you look deeper into our known history, Friday was Freya's day, and 13 was her number, so Friday the 13th once upon a time was actually a day especially for love and family, as Freya was the goddess of those things.
Also, 13 = 4 in numerology, which is truly my absolute favourite number. I wonder how many people stop and think about their favourite numbers – ever wonder why people like some numbers and not others?
Perhaps a good topic of conversation to bring up next time you are hanging out with family and friends – of course with the media's offline for a while! Enjoy your spring breaks coming up everyone with kids who are kids!

This is #12 of 52 episodes for 2022! I don't know about everyone else out there, but I am starting to feel a little like the AI is playing some nasty tricks on us all – woke up today to find that my computer was frozen and my work apparently hadn't finished saving before it froze!! Ah well, just means that everything in today's show is extra awesome and extra fresh!!
Hopefully everyone out there is remembering to slow down a little in the rushing around we are all experiencing, and taking the time to smell the roses! This is #11 of 52 episodes for 2022! As the world keeps spinning, right now is a fantastic time to make sure those you love hear you say it, and that you make sure to spend some really good, quality time with them.
As interesting as the news and social media is right now, be sure to turn if off for hours at a time, allowing yourself to appreciate the things in the here and now – like the fact that spring is heading our way! Fresh springtime buds are starting to sprout in some places, and trees are starting to get some new leaves going in some places too!! Spring is a fantastic time of year to enjoy the newness of the season, and enjoy the company of good friends and family.
Enjoy the coming spring and rebirth of things green and growing – even if all that pollen looks and feels like little death-stars when you have hay fever… just ignore that bit.

WordPress Vulnerability Report – March 2, 2022 – There seems to be a slightly different setup than usual this week; At the bottom of the list of good plugins, there is another list that shows plugins that had issues that have now been fixed with updates, and a list of ‘no known fix' plugins. The no known fix ones are many though, here are some that I think are well used: addons-for-elementor, simple-sitemap, royal-elementor-addons, form-vibes, restrict-user-access, advanced-page-visit-counter, and many more.
I want to note that Interactive Geo Maps is currently on the list, though that was fixed within the past few days, there is an update available so it is no longer an issue.

  • Interview 59 with Carlos Moreira from Interactive Geo Maps
Today's interview is with Carlos Moreira from Interactive Geo Maps

(We at WP Plugins AtoZ have been using this plugin since it was created! Highly recommend this plugin for your own events!)
    Main Talking Points:

    * Interactive Geo Maps is about allowing people to showcase whatever they desire upon the maps, such as where they have been, where their businesses are located, statistics of their choice. There are over 300 maps to choose from in both the free version and the premium version to choose from, and they are all produced by AM Sharps, simply put in one easy plugin for your use!
    * Difference between the Free and Pro versions are not really that great; all the maps that are available in the pro version are available in the free version, though with the pro version you can make lines that connect your icons, you can choose your own icon, you can upload your own images, and you have more options for projections of maps.
    * There is a short talk about what it's like to be the creator of a Freemium Plugin where Carlos goes into detail about why the freemium style plugins really exist. There is a lot of great insights in this part of the interview! There is also more details on how the plugin works, why it was designed this way, and a bit about the LifeTime License that will be up for drawing in our next contest!!

    Listen to learn more!
If you're a plugin developer and you'd like to appear on the show, you can schedule an interview, donate your plugin for an upcoming contest, or submit your plugin for review.

This is #10 of 52 episodes for 2022! Did I mention the weather getting better last week? That was silly of me, pretty sure it snowed here just to spite my words last week… But than again, we all know that there is always the false Spring before the real Spring. Amber's Rant:
This is #8 of 52 episodes for 2022! This last week I have rediscovered a game called Ingress – It's one of those phone games that uses data, though not much. Its a pretty fun game where you go around and catch portals for your ‘team' – I have rediscovered it in order get my kids and I interested in getting out to know our new area we just moved to. it works pretty well! We found a park and a shop with goodies.
Tech can be used for good sometimes – use whatever works to get yourself and your kids (if you have kidlets) outdoors and exploring! Sometimes getting out to explore an area where you have lived for a while all over again can be just as exciting as exploring a new to you area. Perhaps there is a small road you have never walked down before and you will find a pocket park!
Exploring is always something worth doing with family and friends – mostly dropping the tech is the best idea, but sometimes we all need a better reason than just health to get outside. Especially when the weather isn't nice yet. When using tech to help you get out though, I recommend something like Ingress that doesn't constantly require your attention – that way you aren't glued to the screen and are instead talking and spending some quality time with friends and family on the walk!
