Yesterday I wrote about the controversial subject of women preaching to men from the pulpit. I expected to be bombarded for making the statement that the Bible states it is wrong, but instead only received a light shelling. Should women preach/teach men? Not according to God. The Bible is quite clear on the subject that they should not. This is not just Old Testament teaching, but the New Testament strongly makes this case in several passages. The church I attended in south Florida began allowing the pastor’s wife to preach on a rotating basis and I could no longer attend. That was very unfortunate because I have many friends who still attend that mega church and I would like to be a part of it. I have stressed time and again with the leadership at the Jesus Alliance not to overemphasize “works,” (a form of niceness,) compared to evangelistic effort. We tend to think of Jesus as a simple Galilean carpenter, itinerant preacher, girding himself with his garment to wash the feet of His disciples, and as a martyr dying a horrible death upon a cross. I’ve had the seven deadly sins on my mind lately. For some strange reason I’ve heard that expression all my Christian life, but really didn’t know from whence it came. One of my sons took his wife and twin daughters to the Georgia Bulldogs game Saturday. The Dawgs were favored by 24.5 points and lost in overtime. They played terribly and it was a nauseating game.
