Yesterday I spent the entire day into the night watching the Ford/Kavanaugh hearings. I thought I could not be more disgusted with politics, but I am. I truly believe this hearing process has set our democracy back decades. After hearing testimony on both sides for hours on end it boiled down to his word against hers. She does not know when the alleged attack occurred, where it happened, who was there, how she got to the party or how she got home. I once traveled to San Jose Costa Rica and then had to take a bus all the way to the pacific west coast to go fishing. It was a grueling drive of several hours through jungles and steep mountain rocky roads that were little more than trails. About half way through the journey the driver inexplicably stopped the bus and got out and walked across the road. He cupped his hand over his mouth and began grunting and suddenly a couple of howling monkeys appeared in the trees, and their screams attracted others and before I knew it, they were joined by dozens of the nasty looking critters. They were screaming for all they were worth and jumping up and down in the trees like they had lost their minds. My father lived to the ripe old age of 92. He never exercised or ate what is perceived today to be healthy food. One day I was encouraging him to get some exercise and offered to buy him a stationary bike. He scoffed at the idea and snorted that he got his exercise being a pallbearer at jogger’s funerals. One of the weapons that Satan uses against us is discouragement and hopelessness. Yesterday I said something about how encouraged I am about the vast numbers of young people I’ve observed who are attending church. Immediately I received an e-mail disparaging mega-churches detailing how their services are not what they need to be and blah blah blah. It seems that some people just cannot bring themselves to enjoy hearing good news. I attend a mega church which is comprised of thousands and thousands of mostly young people. Recently I visited Atlanta and attended another mega church with one of my sons and his family and experienced the same thing. Predictably the college professor from California who is accusing Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault is now stalling for more time and gargantuan mouthed Democrats are screaming louder than anyone to delay, delay, delay – investigate, investigate, investigate. Now this woman is demanding a full FBI investigation prior to her agreeing to testify under oath. I’ve been studying the Gospels lately and it is like a cool breeze on a hot day. Being bombarded by bad news every day tends to wear me down.
