I had a conversation with a good friend yesterday who told me he was in a rut. He went on to say that instead of going out and doing the ministerial work he has done for decades, he now finds himself spending time playing solitaire on his computer and before he realizes it he has squandered two hours. He has lost his drive and it is frustrating to him. He has always been the organizer and the one riding into the battle leading the charge. Now he has been reduced to a couch potato. My friend is getting up in age and his expectations are unreasonably high by a normal person’s standards. In fact, most would say he deserves some rest. But he is one of those exceptional people who is highly intelligent, articulate, energized, and not limited by age. I recently visited a friend in the hospital at Duke in North Carolina. As I was walking down the corridor located inside the hospital, I happened to notice a large American flag. As I got closer I saw that the red and the blue on the flags were comprised of names. Upon closer inspection I noted that the flag contained all the names of those who lost their lives on September 11th in the World Trade Center bombing. I was talking to a friend who is a bonafide modern day prophet this week and the subject of my eyes came up. He inquired how I was doing, and I told him that after the operations the left eye was now 20/20, but unfortunately the right could not be corrected due to the macular degeneration. I was appalled to see Colin Kaepernick featured as the centerpiece in Nike’s “Just do it” campaign. This guy wore socks to football practice depicting police officers as “pigs” and refused to stand for the National Anthem when he played in the NFL as a loser of a quarterback. Now the liberals and America haters are making a hero out of him.
