I was riding in a taxi, and it was stopped at one of the few red lights in the city of Bombay, (Mumbai now), India. I heard a tap, tap, tapping on my window and when I turned around, I saw a pitiful sight. A man was staring at me, and he had a beat-up tin cup clutched in his hands. He was dressed in very shabby clothes and looked old beyond his time. He did not have any fingers and was clutching his tin cup with mere nubs. One of his ears was gone; he was a leper. I shall never forget the haunting look of his eyes as they pierced through my all. It was as if he was looking past my eyes and into and beyond my very soul. I stopped the taxi and gave him some money; his expression never changed. No smile and no light in his eyes; just a blank haunting stare . . . https://www.wordsfortheday.com/2022/10/have-mercy-2/
