As for the rich in this present world, instruct them not to be conceited and arrogant, nor to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.  18 Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous, willing to share [with others].  19 In this way storing up for themselves the enduring riches of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

But godliness actually is a source of great gain when accompanied by contentment [that contentment which comes from a sense of inner confidence based on the  sufficiency of God].

Let  your character [your moral essence, your inner nature] be free from the  love of money [shun greed—be financially ethical], being content with  what you have; for He has said, “I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]!”  6 So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently say,

Owe nothing to anyone except to love and seek the best for one another; for he who [unselfishly] loves his neighbor has fulfilled the [essence of the] law [relating to one’s fellowmen].

Then Adam said,

“This is now bone of my bones,

24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.

Then He said to them, “Watch  out and guard yourselves against every form of greed; for not even when  one has an overflowing abundance does his life consist of nor is it derived from his possessions.”

16 Then He told them a parable, saying, “There was a rich man whose land was very fertile and productive.  17 And he began thinking to himself, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place [large enough in which] to store my crops?’  18 Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my storehouses and build larger ones, and I will store all my grain and my goods there.

For God did not send the Son into the world to judge and condemn the world [that is, to initiate the final judgment of the world], but that the world might be saved through Him.

If anyone hears My words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge and condemn the world [that is, to initiate the final judgment of the world], but to save the world.

13 Jesus went out again along the [Galilean] seashore; and all the people were coming to Him, and He was teaching them.

14 As He was passing by, He saw Levi (Matthew) the son of Alphaeus sitting in the [a]tax collector’s booth, and He said to him, “Follow Me [as My disciple, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking  the same path of life that I walk].” And he got up and followed Him  [becoming His disciple, believing and trusting in Him and following His example].

15 And it happened that Jesus was reclining at the table in Levi’s house, and many tax collectors and sinners [including non-observant Jews] were eating with Him and His disciples; for there were many of them and they were following Him.  16 When the scribes [belonging to the sect] of the Pharisees  saw that Jesus was eating with the sinners [including non-observant  Jews] and tax collectors, they asked His disciples, “Why does He eat and  drink with tax collectors and sinners?”  17 When Jesus heard this, He said to them, “Those who are healthy have no need of a physician, but [only] those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners [who recognize their sin and humbly seek forgiveness].”

I have made a covenant (agreement) with my eyes; How then could I gaze [lustfully] at a virgin?

Run away from sexual immorality [in any form, whether thought or behavior, whether visual or written]. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the one who is sexually immoral sins against his own body.

Drink water from your own cistern [of a pure marriage relationship]

So put to death and deprive of power the evil longings of your earthly body [with its sensual, self-centered instincts] immorality, impurity, sinful passion, evil desire, and greed, which is [a kind of] idolatry [because it replaces your devotion to God].

Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and  well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship.

But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.  2 Early in the morning He came back into the temple [court], and all the people were coming to Him. He sat down and began teaching them.  3 Now the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery. They made her stand in the center of the court,  4 and they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the very act of adultery.  

The man who commits adultery with another’s wife, even his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer  and the adulteress shall most certainly be put to death.

If a man is intimate with a woman who is another man’s wife, they shall both be put to death, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman. So you shall remove the evil from Israel.

On the evidence of two or three witnesses, he who is to die shall be put to death; he shall not be put to death on the evidence of [only] one witness.  7 The hand of the witnesses shall be the first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So you shall remove the evil from among you.

The Lord was with Joseph, and he [even though a slave] became a successful and prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian.

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate [by perversion], nor those who participate in homosexuality,

So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you.

No temptation [regardless of its source] has overtaken or enticed you that is not common to human experience [nor is any  temptation unusual or beyond human resistance]; but God is faithful [to  His word—He is compassionate and trustworthy], and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability [to resist], but along with the temptation He [has in the past and is now and] will [always] provide the way out as well, so that you will be able to endure it [without yielding, and will overcome temptation with joy].

Now the serpent was more crafty (subtle, skilled in deceit) than any living creature of the field which the Lord God had made. And [a]the serpent (Satan) said to the woman, “Can it really be that God has said, ‘You shall not eat from [b]any tree of the garden’?”  2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden,  3 except the fruit from the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God said,  ‘You shall not eat from it nor touch it, otherwise you will die.’”  4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You certainly will not die!  5 For  God knows that on the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened  [that is, you will have greater awareness], and you will be like God,  knowing [the difference between] good and evil.”

Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an Egyptian officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the [royal] guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites, who had taken him down there.  2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he [even though a slave] became a successful and prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian.  3 Now his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord caused all that he did to prosper (succeed) in his hand.  4 So Joseph pleased Potiphar and found favor in his sight and he served him as his personal servant. He made Joseph overseer over his house, and he put all that he owned in  Joseph’s charge.  5 It happened that from the time that he made Joseph overseer in his house and [put him in charge] over all that he owned, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house because of Joseph; so the Lord’s blessing was on everything that Potiphar owned, in the house and in the field.  6 So Potiphar left all that he owned in Joseph’s charge; and with Joseph there he did not [need to] [a]pay attention to anything except the food he ate.

Now Joseph was handsome and attractive in form and appearance.  7 Then after a time his master’s wife [b]looked at Joseph with desire, and she said, “Lie with me.”  8 But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, with me in the house,  my master does not concern himself with anything; he has put everything that he owns in my charge.  9 He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil and sin against God [and your husband]?”  10 And so it was that she spoke to Joseph [persistently] day after day, but he did not listen to her [plea] to lie beside her or be with her.  11 Then it happened one day that Joseph went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the men of the household was there in the house.  12 She  caught Joseph by his [outer] robe, saying, “Lie with me!” But he left his robe in her hand and ran, and got outside [the house].

Then God said, “Let Us  (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our  likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness];  and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the  birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over  everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.”  27 So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.  28 And  God blessed them [granting them certain authority] and said to them,  “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it [putting it  under your power]; and rule over (dominate) the fish of the sea, the  birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.”

Marriage is to be held in honor among all [that is, regarded as something of great value], and the marriage bed undefiled [by immorality or by any sexual sin]; for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

But sexual immorality and all [moral] impurity [indecent, offensive behavior] or greed must not even be hinted at among you, as is proper among saints [for as believers our way of life, whether in public or in private, reflects the validity of our faith].  4 Let there be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse [obscene or vulgar] joking, because such things are not appropriate [for believers]; but instead speak of your thankfulness [to God].  5 For be sure of this: no immoral, impure, or greedy person—for that one is  [in effect] an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and  God [for such a person places a higher value on something other than  God]. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty arguments [that encourage you to sin],  for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience [those who habitually sin].  7 So do not participate or even associate with them [in the rebelliousness of sin].

Ephesians 5 : 3-7

12 Everything is permissible for me, but not all things are beneficial. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not be enslaved by anything [and brought under its power, allowing it to control me].  13 Food  is for the stomach and the stomach for food, but God will do away with both of them. The body is not intended for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body [to save, sanctify, and raise it again because of the sacrifice of the cross].  14 And God has not only raised the Lord [to life], but will also raise us up by His power.  15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Am I therefore to take the members of Christ and make them part of a [f]prostitute? Certainly not!  16 Do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall be one flesh.”  17 But the one who is united and joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.  18 Run away from sexual immorality [in any form, whether thought or behavior, whether visual or written]. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the one who is sexually immoral sins against his own body.  19 Do  you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have [received as a gift] from God, and that you are not your own [property]?  20 You were bought with a price [you were actually purchased with the precious blood of Jesus and made His own]. So then, honor and glorify God with your body. 1 Now as to the matters of which you wrote: It is good (beneficial, advantageous) for a man not to touch a woman  [outside marriage].  2 But because of [the temptation to participate in] sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.

8 But  I say to the unmarried and to the widows, [that as a practical matter]  it is good if they remain [single and entirely devoted to the Lord] [a]as I am.  9 But if they do not have [sufficient] self-control, they should marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

1If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love  [for others growing out of God’s love for me], then I have become only a  noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction]. 2And if I have the gift of prophecy [and speak a new message from God to the people], and understand all mysteries, and [possess] all knowledge; and if I have all  [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love  [reaching out to others], I am nothing. 3If I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it does me no good at all.

4Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. 5It  is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. 6It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. 7Love  bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things  [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].

8Love  never fails [it never fades nor ends]. But as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for the gift of special knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part [for our knowledge is fragmentary and incomplete]. 10But when that which is complete and perfect comes, that which is incomplete and partial will pass away. 11When  I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I  reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. 12For  now [in this time of imperfection] we see in a mirror dimly [a blurred reflection, a riddle, an enigma], but then [when the time of perfection comes we will see reality] face to face. Now I know in part [just in fragments], but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known  [by God]. 13And  now there remain: faith [abiding trust in God and His promises], hope  [confident expectation of eternal salvation], love [unselfish love for others growing out of God’s love for me], these three [the choicest graces]; but the greatest of these is love.

16 For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.

Amplified® Bible

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
