A while back I did a video on habit theory and it kind of took on a life of its own, loads of you messaged me about it and it's still one of the most popular videos I’ve ever done. So when I heard that the expert I spoke to in that video was finally coming to the UK, I knew I needed to make a recording happen. 

Nir Eyal is an author and lecturer who has spent years studying what makes humans tick, how habits actually form in the brain, why we're all so distracted and what people who achieve extraordinary things actually do differently with their days. Essentially, he’s an expert in a lot of the things we love to talk about on this side of the internet. I hope you love the episode!

I get asked all the time how to actually build a fashion brand, from roles to pricing to manufacturers, and honestly it’s something I’ve always been a bit hesitant to cover on my own because I only have my perspective from building TALA.

I wanted to talk to Simon, because his whole thing isn’t really “quit your job and become a millionaire”, it’s much more about building a life that actually feels like yours and being honest about the fact that most people already know what they want, they’ve just convinced themselves they can’t have it.

We had some really interesting debates around work, money, privilege, purpose and what actually makes a “good” life, which made the whole conversation feel much more honest and nuanced and hopefully makes you question whether the thing you keep putting off is maybe the exact thing you should stop ignoring.

This week, we are talking about something that I genuinely think is shaping our careers, our creativity, our relationships, and our confidence more than we realise, which is the fear of being cringe.

I did a bonus episode on this over a year ago now and it got such a huge response, and since then I’ve come to genuinely think the main thing that holds most people back is not lack of talent, not lack of ideas, not even lack of discipline. It’s fear of what other people think.

So this episode is basically me unpacking all of that, the psychology behind why we care so much about what people think, why we massively overestimate how much people are paying attention to us, and the practical things that have genuinely helped me stop letting fear of perception make my decisions for me.

I was so excited to record with Ashley James, I've loved her videos for ages, and I knew we'd get on like a house on fire. We talk about shame, body image, speaking up, and how your relationship with yourself evolves over time.
