  • Ep 13 – Workplace Holiday Party Etiquette Guide

I love the holidays. In fact, my family just finished putting up their holiday Christmas tree, but as an HR person, I loathe the holidays especially dealing with the holiday work party. It’s a nightmare where sexual harassment claims fill my inbox the next day and a place where employee etiquette conversations happen guaranteed. Episode […]

Episode 12: Business Etiquette for Millenials with Carey Sue Vega (@etiquette101) Millenials are invading or workplace at a fast pace. By 2020 Millenials will account for 40% of the workplace. It’s easy to label them as entitled, disrespectful and rude. EPISODE 10: BUILDING AN AMAZING CAREER & HIRING SITE WITH STEPHANIE HAMMERWOLD (@HRHAMMER)
Small businesses which are less than 500 employees account for 65% of new jobs. Approximately 543,000 new businesses get started each month (but more employer businesses shut down then start up each month) with 7 out of 10 businesses failing to make it past the 2 year mark. On today’s Workology Podcast I talked with Stephanie Hammerwold, an HR consultant who works with small businesses helping to navigate workplace compliance, HR and employment law.
Stephanie from Hammerwold Pershing discussed with me about common challenges for small business when it comes to “HR issues” including the most common employment laws that small business is challenged with and what priorities small businesses should consider. HR audits are one of the best ways to uncover areas of opportunity for your newly minted HR pro or consultant who you are working with when you are a small business.
HR metrics are a popular topic when it comes to HR professionals regardless of the company size. Stephanie suggests some ways to measure success and justify the benefits of human resources at work. Listen into the podcast to hear from small business HR advice from Stephanie and what steps businesses can take right now to remove risk and grow their business while leveraging the human capital within their company.

EPISODE 10: BUILDING AN AMAZING CAREER & HIRING SITE WITH STACY CHAPMAN (@STACYCHAPMAN)
This week’s guest, Stacy Chapman hares how social data can be used to effectively recruit candidates and build a better culture for the employees at your company. Stacy’s company, Swoop Talent focuses on pulling social data for use in recruiting but there are actually other areas of opportunity to use the information we share on social media. One of my favorites is competitor data. You can learn a lot about other organizations by the social data they share as well as by their employees. Stacy also discusses the importance of what is not shared on social media and these social channels. She cautions companies who rely on collecting and analyzing social media are missing out on massive amounts of information and data by those who choose not to share via social media. Relying heavily on this public data only give companies and scientists a small picture and insights into the information they seek.
One of the many reasons I love talking to Stacy is because of her background being someone who has worked in the field of workforce planning. I think it best if you just take a listen to the podcast above. She is utterly brilliant. Makes me think about things I never thought I would. She goes beyond just making the case f0r social media in recruiting but analyzing and understanding all the information that is shared on the interwebs. In fact, this podcast has inspired some new areas of my own research when it comes to how, when and why candidates and employees are sharing about your company. More to come on that.
