Ryan Claytor is the Coordinator of the Comic Art and Graphic Novel Minor and Assistant Professor at Michigan State University where he teaches Comics Studio courses and spearheaded the development of the interdisciplinary Comic Art and Graphic Novel minor between the Art and English departments. Claytor’s achievements have included six S.P.A.C.E. (Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo) Prizes , including 1st place in the mini-comics category (28pgs or less), 1st place in the General category (29-55pgs), and 1st place in the Graphic Novel category (56pgs or more), for his work in comics, a Cartoonist in Residence position at the Cartoon Art Museum, visiting lecturerships at the Dallas Museum of Art ,
The Center for Cartoon Studies, and The Savannah College of Art and Design, an internship with Marvel Comics, and judging the Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailing Award. In 2009, Claytor had a featured exhibition of his work in San Francisco’s Cartoon Art Museum and Claytor began teaching the first comics studio course in Michigan State University‘s history. Claytor has put together a a 250 page outline of Ryan's 20-year growth as an artist, is an outgrowth of his interest in sharing artistic processes and demystifying making.
Now, after 20 years of working as an artist and university educator, Ryan incorporated that curiosity into his life's work where he's been able to share methods of creating art and comics with thousands of students. You can have this amazing title in a couple ways!
